What post-gcse holidays did your 16 year olds take?

Just having a conversation with my year 10 15 year old ds about possibilities (as he’s heard friends in year 11 are apparently going to Europe on a train Hmm)
I always thought it would mainly be post A level holidays kids would take tbh, mainly due to logistics and rules and regulations etc, so would be interested to know what your kids have done previously!

We went to Germany with a group inc a couple of us 16 year olds who could drive. We bought a crap car and drove (!) no way I’d let my now year 11 do it 😂

Last summer - he went to Canada and Croyde with his dad and family, had a week away in the UK with me and his brother, helped at school yr 7 camp Mon-Fri as a yr 12 helper and had a weekend at a scout weekend at Gillwell.
He didn't mention and I think had no interest in going away with friends. I did ask if he was doing anything with his girlfriend - no, or if she wanted to come with us but logistics didn't work.

Mine went to Turkey with his mate and family then a moth katr went to Krakow and Prague with 3 mates.

There are plenty of organised trips they can do with similar aged kids. Can’t remember what they are called though.

DD went for a weekend away with friends. They survived.

What is NCS? DS is thinking of camping in the Lakes and climbing a hill or too....that’s what he and his friends enjoy doing, not so much beach parties and clubs yet Grin

My youngest did NCS and loved it. Eldest did Reading Festival and hasn’t stopped going to festivals since

Thanks unitedroad but that’s not something that would interest him really. He’s in Air Cadets so has had plenty of camp experience like that - he wants something that isn’t organised, basically being left to his own devices Smile

DD didn’t want to come on our family holiday (camping in Cornwall!) as she had done ncs already. DS we are taking to Krakow and zakopane for 2 weeks but he did go to USA and Canada last year for the world scout jamboree so he has had a great big trip while us parents have had nowt!

My DD did NCS and a family holiday.

This year, after A—levels she is hoping to go on holiday with friends.

Mine did 4 weeks on NCS after we'd had a 3-week family break in the USA.

We all just camped in local fields and got rat arsed for a few days.
Also went on a trip to South of France with my dad.

DS went to Krakow with a group of friends. Then NCS.

DD did NCS then we had a family holiday. Her holiday with mates fell through unfortunately. The others' parents weren't keen!

Fairly sure they can't go on a package holiday until they're 18? My DD and her friends tried to book (unsuccessfully) when they were 17.
Not sure about the the Inter - Railing rules, probably wise to call ahead and check if the accommodation has age restrictions.

Me and my friends went to the lakes for a few days on the train, was a wonderful camping trip. This was only 6 years ago

My DS didn't do anything out of the ordinary, just the family holiday as normal. He was still only 15 when he finished his GCSEs and there is no way I would have let him go away without an adult, even if he had wanted to
Can't remember what DD did. I expect she went on a couple of dance summer schools as usual.

We went on a family holiday which was a fjord cruise round Norway and he also had two cadet camps for a week each which were both camping and yomping up mountains type stuff.

Ds1 asked dh to take him walking/camping in Scotland. They had a great time. He then came on family holiday to Wales.

Ds2 came on holiday to the Azores with me and dh - Ds1 refused to come and went on holiday with his mates. Ds2 then went to Reading Festival which seems to be the done thing round here post GCSEs.
