Also thought of one or two cubes of chocolate

I wouldn't class low sugar Angel delight as healthy. Low sugar anything is pretty bad.

Couple of cubes of decent dark chocolate is ok.

Lardlizard · 04/02/2020 18:39

Meg why’s that ?

Pipandmum · 04/02/2020 18:39

Fruit, yogurt, and not much else.
I would never be able to eat just one or two pieces of chocolate but if you can then that's hardly over the top.
No idea what's in Angel Delight but the sugar will be replaced by sweeteners which are not healthy.

Why are sweeteners not healthy

OP posts:
Wilmalovescake · 04/02/2020 18:40

Fruit and Greek yoghurt.
Home made fruit crumble with oats and less sugar/butter.
Depends on your definition of healthy really.

Splendidd · 04/02/2020 18:41

Angel delight is just chemical shite. It's not in any way healthy.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 04/02/2020 18:42

For yourself or for children?
Personally, for myself, I either have greek or natural yoghurt, cheese & crackers, or couple of squares of dark chocolate. They are my 'go-tos' but I also have the occasional slice of cake or chocolate pudding then the mood calls for it. Personal preference but I avoid anything low-fat or sugar-free as I rather have a small portion of the real version than a 'diet' version.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/02/2020 18:42

Sweeteners give me the shits.
I'd have whatever you want, but a small portion.

Dozer · 04/02/2020 18:42

Google why sweeteners are unhealthy.

Fruit!

icelollycraving · 04/02/2020 18:44

Sweeteners spike your insulin response in the same way as sugar. As an occasional ‘treat’ I guess it’s ok but certainly not healthy.

Elouera · 04/02/2020 18:48

Depends what you mean by 'healthy' and what type of diet you are trying to follow? For example, I was always trying to cut fat, have diet versions of things previously- without much success at weight loss! I'm now on a low carb diet, have lost 10kg, and can eat cream, berries, cheesecake and more.

Angle delight contains palm oil, and has very little nutritional value, so something I personally avoid. Fruit desserts at least contain fibre and vitamins (although heat can destroy certain ones). Some fruits really spike sugars (mangos and bananas for one), so not great for diabetics. Nuts, seeds and grains are good and release energy slower.

joggingon · 04/02/2020 18:49

Halo ice cream bars
Meringue nest Greek yoghurt and fruit. (Lightly microwave frozen berries)

penguin246 · 04/02/2020 19:50

Natural yoghurt with cherries or bluberries (keep in freezer). For extra indulgence grated dark chocolate.

Also....frozen red grapes. That was a good discovery.

lazylinguist · 04/02/2020 19:53

Ugh no. If you want healthy dessert, eat fruit. And yes, a square or two of good chocolate. Then have an occasional properly indulgent sugary dessert. There is nothing remotely healthy about heavily processed, chemically sweet crap.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 04/02/2020 20:01

Are you looking for healthy or low calorie? As they're 2 different things.

Angel delight no sugar is low calorie but has no nutritional benefit so isn't healthy.

If you want something properly healthy then it's just fruit really.

If you want something in between, so better for you and less calories than an apple crumble but more interesting than a plain apple then you can make substitutions like making a fruit compote with spices such as cinnamon and sweetened with honey.

MarmiteyCrumpets · 04/02/2020 20:08

Poached pears or peaches (poached in ine or cranberry juice)

Frozen banana ice cream

Chocolate mousse made with avo or tofu

Blitzed date and nut truffles

Frozen grapes

Fruit crumble with whole meal flour, oats and chopped nuts in the topping

Stewed rhubarb or quinces

The ingredients in Sugar Free Angel Delight don't sound very appetising.

Modified Potato Starch, Maltodextrin, Vegetable Oil (Palm), Dried Whey (Milk), Fat Reduced Cocoa Powder, Modified Maize Starch, Emulsifier (Propane-1,2-Diol Esters of Fatty Acids, Sunflower Lecithin), Gelling Agents (Disodium Phosphate, Tetrasodium Diphosphate), Sodium Caseinates (Milk), Colours (Plain Caramel, Mixed Carotenes), Flavourings (contain Milk), Anti-Caking Agent (Silicon Dioxide), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame K).

There's also a difference between healthy food, and a healthy attitude towards food...

Baked apples are our go to healthier treat. Core, and stuff with raisins mixed with a little sugar and cinnamon. Then bake until soft.

TSSDNCOP · 04/02/2020 21:40

We used to have that baked apple combo as kids with evaporated milk poured over. My mouth is watering as I type.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/02/2020 21:46

In our house it's ice lollies made from blended fruit and yogurt (usually made when it's about to go out of date)

I have an incredibly fussy toddler, and it's one of the few ways to get healthy food in.

lljkk · 04/02/2020 21:58

Fresh fruit.
