Where to get loose trousers for chunky ds 4yo (wears older)

Apocketfulofposies · 04/02/2020 17:31

DS has recently turned 4 and very rugby player. Massive thighs, chunky trunk. Also tall. He is in size 5-6 clothes and off the charts height wise etc. He usually wears jogging bottoms as any structured trousers like chinos and cords that fit him round waist aren't big enough for his chunky thighs.

I'm looking for some think but spacious summer trousers for him. Either v think joggers or mothercare once did a lovely wide legged cotton chino that worked for him.

Anyone seen anything?

harem style trousers might suit? they tend to be fitted round the waist and then baggy down the leg

Helini · 04/02/2020 18:40

A larger size but then taken up so they're not so long?

Sittinonthefloor · 04/02/2020 18:42

If he is overweight rather than just tall maybe address that?

Interested in this thread?

Try next or asda they often do slim/standard/plus fit on some items

Invisimamma · 04/02/2020 18:50

I find M&S and Tu are always afar too wide for my slim boys so maybe try there. But if normal clothes don't fit you might want to consider why and begin to address that.

I think M&S also do plus size kids clothing.

Purpletigers · 04/02/2020 18:50

If he has only just turned 4 , I would address his weight issues .

Purpletigers · 04/02/2020 18:54

Don’t make buying considerably bigger clothing for your son his norm. It’s not fair on him . Address the issues now while you’re the one in control .

Clymene · 04/02/2020 18:58

Children grow taller when they're overweight. No 4 year old has a rugby player build, it's just fat at that age.

This thread must be hard to read but you can absolutely turn this around now while he's so little.

Tell us what his daily diet is and we can fix it together without him even knowing Smile

LettertoHermoine · 04/02/2020 20:33

I agree with the other posters. I would look at getting his weight down, he is only gone 4 so it will be much easier now to tweak his diet than when he is older.

Apocketfulofposies · 04/02/2020 23:50

Thank you all but I am after trousers advice not weight advice. I did not offer any reason for his size or ask for any advice on that. To those of you with helpful suggestions, thank you.

In fact I am kind of astounded by the rudeness.

If we were trying to get his weight down would you want him to go trouserless while doing so?
If he is chunky due to an illness or medication do you think I need to share that with you?
If he is just fat - so what, should he not have comfortable clothes?

So just to repeat - anyone who knows where a tall but chunky 4 yo can get some comfortable summer trousers I would love to hear your suggestions - many thanks.

Next clothing comes up big. M&S also good for sizing.
Asda also great for children's clothes and worth a look to get something to suit.

LeGrandBleu · 05/02/2020 00:25

This is a website for plus size kids clothing
moreforkidsuk.com

Gap also a section dedicated to big boys
www.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=1050027

I am not sure if expressing concern for a child described a rugby player is rude. You definitely do not mention any health related description in your opening post.

Suggesting a visit to the GP might not be helpful to your fashion request, but I wouldn't call it rude.

If you have trouble fitting him with normal clothes it will be a lot worse when you have to buy a school uniform.

dustibooks · 05/02/2020 00:32

M&S - going by the kids clothes I was looking at in there yesterday.

Apocketfulofposies · 05/02/2020 00:46

@LeGrandBleu I don’t offer any reason (and continue not to do so) because my query is about trousers, nothing else!

Next do boy's trousers, Jean's & shorts with adjustable waists. Ignore all the comments about your ds size, my ds is exactly the same & has been since he was small.

Clevererthanyou · 05/02/2020 00:58

Hey Op, please disregard the fatty haters, MN is rife with them I’m afraid. I found that H+M do a very good range of trousers for tall boys, I also concur with a pp about ASDA just be wary of sizes as they seem to think children are teeny tiny in height! I didn’t mind TESCO before and even found their jeans to be properly sized. Be careful with Mountain Warehouse as again, the clothes fit the waist etc but the sleeves are up the elbows Hmm

LeGrandBleu · 05/02/2020 01:01

@Apocketfulofposies
Don't believe I asked for the why he had disproportionate legs - if the description rugby player is accurate - but put two links for you to look at.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 05/02/2020 02:39

“fatty haters” Hmm Really?

If he’s a big tall lad just go up a size surely? If not there are plenty of places to buy things for chunky kids. Next do chunky stuff.

TillyTheTiger · 05/02/2020 02:59

Next do some generous fit clothes.
Some children are just built differently, my 3yo DS has a cousin the same age who is only about two thirds as wide because my son has wide shoulders, broad chest and hips and a big bum whereas his cousin is very slim build with narrow shoulders and no bum, all his trousers fall down. That's why BMI measurements are a bit of a nonsense. DS is in 4-5 or 5-6 clothing but he's not fat, you can see all his ribs. He's just big!

Sleepyblueocean · 05/02/2020 07:15

Next do plus sizes and lots of styles with adjustable waists or drawstrings . Ds has a small waist but needs space around the bum area for medical reasons and we buy most of his trousers from next.

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2020 07:18

H & M are good for tall people with long arms, but I don't find the sizing very generous.

Apocketfulofposies · 06/02/2020 13:12

Thanks all - I have ordered some from Regatta and also some from Gap. I can report back if anyone wants

Lands End do a husky size as the USA has a Significant problem with obesity in dc and they still need clothing.

Clevererthanyou · 08/02/2020 21:58

Tinklylittlelaugh yes really. The threads on Mumsnet alone are full of faux concern comments about the health of fat people, a focus on snacking culture, binge eating problems with the lower classes, fatties have single handedly destroyed the NHS and shouldn’t be able to live alongside beautiful slim people etc etc ... I could go on but there’s a doughnut waiting for me.
