Where to get loose trousers for chunky ds 4yo (wears older)

DS has recently turned 4 and very rugby player. Massive thighs, chunky trunk. Also tall. He is in size 5-6 clothes and off the charts height wise etc. He usually wears jogging bottoms as any structured trousers like chinos and cords that fit him round waist aren't big enough for his chunky thighs.

I'm looking for some think but spacious summer trousers for him. Either v think joggers or mothercare once did a lovely wide legged cotton chino that worked for him.

Anyone seen anything?

Well, a 4 yr old in a size 5-6 is hardly oompaloompa territory is it? Hmm If he were as "off the scale" height wise as she implies, he'd be in a size 9-10 for example.

That said, the OP is the one describing her own child with negative words about weight "massive" "trunks" "chunky" so she clearly doesn't think her son's build is normal.

OP it sounds like you have a child who is pre-schooler proportions but the height of an older child - been there done that but some time ago. My two were both 21 kg at about 3 1/2 - but have turned into very slim teenagers without any effort at all (neither were particularly sporty children either). Hope you find the right fit from the people who've been helpful here.

I agree that overweight children grow taller earlier than their slim peers; but also suspect that the 'slimming down' process that happens from toddlerhood to early school age may take a little longer for naturally taller children. Have been tempted to put together a proposal to analyse height and weight data with this thought in mind!

I agree with next is quite generous with sizing. I got some light chinos last summer that were just straight let rather than slim fit which might work. Primark on the other hand id avoid if I were you, got some lovely khaki and grey jeans and they came up very skinny. I also find TU at Sainsbury's quite generous

H&M are terrible for width but excellent for height. Perfect for my incredibly slim eight year old, less so for the stockier 12 year old.

How tall is he?
Kids can be completely different builds. DN is about half DC width wise.
Dd slimmed down a lot between 4 and 7 and is slim now.

The regatta ones weren’t great so I have returned them

Zara do a lot of nice stretchy and loose fit trousers for boys. I buy them for my 3yo who is slim. I just prefer him to be comfy.
