Are robotic vacuum cleaners worth it?

Am dithering with the idea of a robotic vacuum (Roomba or similar). We have the usual table+chairs and sofas to navigate around - are they all they are cracked up to be? I don’t want it to wind up like the bread maker and other appliance white elephants....

Yes, they are worth it. Our Neato is one of the best things we ever bought. We have two ragdoll cats and live on a small acreage and run him (he is called Burt) on a nearly daily basis while we are at work and he has made a massive difference. Big furniture like chairs and tables will be fine for it to navigate around.

I absolutely love mine. I'm disabled with a crazy 3 year old. The best thing I've ever brought seriously.

AmIAWeed · 03/02/2020 10:29

I have a roomba which I do like, but, it gets stuck regularly under our sofa - only in one part, go figure.
It's a pain if there is anything on the floor, tissues, paper, clothes - it all gets trapped so it comes down to how tidy a house you have.

I have 6 cats, 2 dogs and it fills every single day from one room, for me, it's ideal if I don't have time to hoover in the evening it's brilliant but is in no way a replacement for an actual hoover

Love mine, the only downside is making sure things that will choke it up are kept off the floor, they aren't for everyone though, I know people who have got them and haven't taken to them. Was a complete game changer for our kitchen floor, we never managed to keep it clean before.

Tatiannatomasina · 03/02/2020 10:33

I have an LG robo, it was so good I bought two.

LochJessMonster · 03/02/2020 11:07

I'm not that impressed with mine, with is the electriQ Robot Vacuum Cleaner. I have two very hairy dogs and although it picks up some stuff I usually end up using the actual hoover anyway.

It also gets stuck a fair bit so I end up watching it clean for 20 minutes when I could have just done a quick 5 minutes with the hoover!

Northernlass99 · 03/02/2020 11:11

i have a Eufy and for the money it is brilliant. You still need to hoover properly but mine is on a timer and does a sweep round every day, so I don't need to hoover so often. You have to tidy up all toys and cables etc but it comes out at 9.30 every day and picks up a good amount of dog hair before sending itself back to bed! Sometimes I take it upstairs and leave it in the bedroom for a couple of hours. It definitely reduces the need for hoovering yourself, but doesn't eliminate it completely. (Ours is called Boris btw!)

MintyMabel · 03/02/2020 11:50

Love our Eufy robovac. Except when he gets caught up in all the wires!

If only he would do the stairs.....

Bazookapie · 03/02/2020 18:22

Another Eufy robovac here, wouldn’t be without him now. We have a constantly shedding dog and using the robot every day really keeps the floors so much less fluffy. Ours is called Robbie.

redastherose · 03/02/2020 23:40

Absolutely love mine. Only just bought it Eufy Robovac 15C Max. Had it sitting in my Amazon wish list for a year and then saw he was on special offer in the January sales. I have a Labrador and two cats and my house is usually covered in pet hair. But 'Rover' is brilliant at picking it all up. Now just need to get one that mops too..

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 04/02/2020 08:26

Our Roomba gets stuck under sofa too. It also always getting into the cables and damages them. If you are a minimalist with a high sofa and beds then it can be quite good.

BonnesVacances · 04/02/2020 08:58

We have a rug in the middle of our living room. Would it cope with that or just go round it?

ritzbiscuits · 04/02/2020 09:58

I got this Eufy one. It's much cheaper than the other models in their range as it doesn't have app support, but I'm not bothered about that. You can still use the remote to set a daily timer.

Personally I'd give it 4/5. I've got a back problem at the moment so its really handy to leave it upstairs doing the bedrooms. It picks up a lot too! Downstairs I have a lot more crap lying around, our big open plan living area doesn't get vac'ed as much as I'd like. Also, it doesn't seem to want to do the edge of the kitchen cupboards (I think a combination of light panels and a dark brown floor).

For £135 I'm very happy, but glad I didn't spend £200+ on one.

BlingLoving · 04/02/2020 10:05

I've been wanting one for years. DH is resistant for some reason, but I think I'm talking him round. I've assumed they don't replace a good regular vacuum, but just mean that you don't need to do a full vacuum as often (especially if you have pets). It's more the cost that puts me off at this point. They're not cheap and I'm struggling to feel I can justify that kind of cost for a home appliance that doesn't even replace an existing home appliance....

EmmaStone · 04/02/2020 10:12

We got one in the Amazon January sales too. I'm not a fantastic housekeeper, and popping Eugene on to pootle around means at least the floors are being kept on top of in between proper cleans. We've got a Eufy, and I like how easy it is to empty and clean out the roller brushes. I like the app control too. I'm reluctant to leave him on when out of the house in case the cat brings us a present and Eugene tries to hoover it away, but overall, very happy.

Northernlass99 · 05/02/2020 07:53

Yes it will tackle your rug. Mine goes up on the rug easily. You can set it to just go around the edges, which I do in my kitchen. It has fallen down the one step into the kitchen so I wouldn’t leave him alone at the top of a lot of stairs. I think the Eufy is a lot more affordable than others. It doesn’t memorise your room like the expensive ones, just goes at random which works fine. I though the dog might bark at it but he just ignores it and let’s it bump into him! I love how everyone names them!!

AlCalavicci · 05/02/2020 09:00

I bought a Eufy 11 a few weeks ago and I love him ! It's surprising just how much he picks up .
PP are right about making sure you pick up / move wires and shoe laces but when I have forgot he hasn't damaged anything he just sits there beeping asking for help. .
Mine runs every evening for just over a hr once a week i take him upstairs if they ciuld invent one that does stirs too . . .here is my wallet . . Take what you want Smile

BlingLoving · 05/02/2020 10:12

God, I now have the EUFY without the fancy extras in my "to be bought" basket.

AlCalavicci · 05/02/2020 22:26

@BlingLoving
I think you will have the same model as me ( eufy11s )
You will grow to love him /her very quickly.
You may of noticed it's MN law to name them too.
Mine is called Buzz

ponygirlcurtis · 05/02/2020 22:42

I saved up for 2 years and got a Eufy 15c in the January sales. I love him! I can set him cleaning in the living room while I am sorting dinner. I finally feel on top of the hoovering! I am quite attached to him already.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 05/02/2020 22:58

So, if you have the kind of bed with space underneath, does it do all the space evenly? My under the bed not being clean bugs me and my hoover is too big to go under it. Too heavy to move as well.

ritzbiscuits · 06/02/2020 03:36

@TheUnquestionedAnswer Yes it does! Our sofa and living room chairs are also on legs so those areas are thoroughly clean now! 👍

I find 30 mins, single room setting does this perfectly!

lemontreebird · 06/02/2020 04:04

How easy are the newer models to clean? I had a Roomba a while ago, but I found cleaning it out an absolute pain.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/02/2020 04:15

100% worth it. I have a Eufy and I absolutely love it. I've had it for a year and I'll never be without one again.

blackcat86 · 06/02/2020 04:38

We also have an eufy and its fab. We have pets and an toddler so can keep on top of the crumbs and hair.
