How do you go supermarket shopping with a baby?

This may be a stupid question but I'm just wondering how other people do a food shop with a small baby. Obviously you can't manage a pram and trolley at the same time so I think I'll use the sling, but not everyone has slings so what do you do? I've only recently passed my driving test so haven't really thought of the logistics until now!

Easiest is baby in a sling. Or just do online shopping.

Use the car seat trolley

Mariposa123 · 03/02/2020 08:30

Send my husband! Otherwise I would take the pram and clip my bag for life to the handle. Then I use the shop and scan machines so I could put my stuff straight in the bag without having to unpack and repack.

You leave them in the car seat and put that in the base of a big trolley

Pinkywoo · 03/02/2020 08:31

I need to go to Aldi so can't do it online, and his car seat is a Joie 360 so can't be carried or put in a trolley, but glad to hear the sling will work.

Car seat in the trolley, wear a sling or pop them in one of the baby seats in a trolley.
Babies are easier than toddlers thank god because they just stay where you put them.

VettiyaIruken · 03/02/2020 08:32

X posted re trolley, sorry

Pinkywoo · 03/02/2020 08:33

Ooh bag for life on the pram is a good idea!

Aldi trolleys have layed down baby seats attached. At least the one near me does?

coffeeforone · 03/02/2020 08:36

How much space do you have under the pram too - I used to put most stuff underneath there before and after checkout, so you only have the pram to push.

Pinkywoo · 03/02/2020 08:37

No space under the pram unfortunately.

Either use one of the trolleys you can put car seat on or just put it in main part of trolley .

crazycatlady7 · 03/02/2020 08:40

I go with someone, the first few months when people wanted to help me I asked them to go with me. Or I do online. Or scan and pack putting bags under the pram.

coffeeforone · 03/02/2020 08:42

How old is the baby? Supermarkets have those trolleys with the baby seat, but they they don't look like they are supportive enough for a newborn, or when they are old enough to lift their heads, so I think they might only be able to be used for quite a short window.

bookmum08 · 03/02/2020 08:42

All the Aldi stores I know would not let you put your goods in a bag for life BEFORE you have paid for them. Security would have a right go at you.
You put baby in the baby seat of the trolley.

SockQueen · 03/02/2020 08:45

Use the reclined baby seat trolleys. Or a sling. It's one of those things that seems way more complicated than it actually is once you've done it

doadeer · 03/02/2020 08:45

I use one of the wheel baskets and take the pram

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/02/2020 08:46

Yeah Aldi have the trolleys with proper lie down baby seats on them.

wonkylegs · 03/02/2020 08:46

I couldn't lift the car seat so always went with a sling - it worked fantastically

EggbertHeartsTina · 03/02/2020 08:47

Use the sling facing outward when baby is old enough and it’s basically free baby sensory Grin

Pinkywoo · 03/02/2020 08:47

He's three months but small (20th percentile), but has good head control and is trying to roll, would the baby trolley seat be ok? Good point about security, don't want to be rugby tackled while perusing the aisle of shite!

Why do you need to go to Aldi? Tesco discount brand products are exactly the same price. Get the Tesco Groceries app on your phone and do some searches, sort by price low-high. Get a flexi-saver delivery slot from £1 Flowers

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/02/2020 08:50

@Pinkywoo they have straps but can't always be tightened brilliantly so might not be worth the risk

firstimemamma · 03/02/2020 08:51

Buggy and basket!

I go twice a week and it's just the 3 of us so this works out ok.

Also I don't get everything from the supermarket - I also go to small independent places such as fish monger, green grocers etc so when it comes to the actual supermarket shop there isn't that much we buy from there really.

Pinkywoo · 03/02/2020 08:51

I like the Aldi nappies and love rummaging through the tat in the middle aisle without DH rushing me!
