where have I put my passport

I have a filing cabinet with hanging files and an entire folder called Passport. It's not hanging out there.

I've sifted through the inevitable pile of paperwork to sort later. It's not lurking there.

The last time I may have had it was when I was going to get a will last November during Wills Month. I might have put it in a bag but I never went as something urgent came up, so I don't think it left the house. Checked bags and no sign of it.

I am pretty stumped. Its only a 2 bed flat. All I can think of is going through every room piece by piece.

Where would you look for a lost passport?

When I lost mine I found it in the book I was reading on the plane home from my last trip.

PickleMyPepper · 27/01/2020 19:40

I agree with those saying it's fallen down the back of the filing cabinet or a set of drawers or something.

That's where mine was. As well as my purse, set of keys, birth certificates and a really important form (not all at once I should add.)
Drawers and I are not friends.

PickleMyPepper · 27/01/2020 19:41

Pray to St Anthony too OP.

Aridane · 27/01/2020 19:55

Oh shit - just reading this type of thread gives me sweaty palms

Redo the obvious places - ie on or around filing cabinet (take out all folders) and in all handbags and jacket pockets. Have a friend / partner 'supervise' / being a second pair of eyes when you're searching the obvious places

Likethebattle · 27/01/2020 20:34

This is why I always lit mine back in the ‘place’ if I’m not using it. I’m so bad and lose everything easily.

avocadont · 27/01/2020 20:40

under the bed?

Greyhound22 · 27/01/2020 20:44

I dunno but I'm going to read the whole thread to see if it inspires me to where mine is. Along with my marriage certificate and driving licence. Been searching all weekend 😩

glitterbiscuits · 27/01/2020 21:24

Have you looked in all the hanging files? And under the hanging files?

Frownette · 28/01/2020 07:20

@Heymacarana OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE SOMEONE ELSE DID THAT!

I put mine in the freezer too, unfortunately whilst travelling South East Asia. Can't believe I have a passport twin!

OP hope you find it

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/01/2020 07:23

With the paperwork for the will?
Did you use it to book your trip?

DH sometimes leaves his at work...

finkploydthethird · 28/01/2020 07:25

On the table where you put the post ? In a handbag you last used ata job interview ?

passportpuzzle · 28/01/2020 07:34

An envelope sounds promising! I can almost envisage that happened.

Formulating a plan

Envelopes/paperwork which is currently cluttering the lounge table
Bags
Down sofa
Pockets
Under furniture
Behind bookcase
Hanging files again
Microwave, junk drawer
Hall cupboard (dreading that one-it's a hot mess)
Suitcases
Drawers

Scanner
Freezer

This feels vaguely under control with a list. I agree about one place at a time/not turning everything upside down.

It's not urgent Grin I just need it by Monday to accept a job I've been offered.

Can you remove the filing cabinet drawers?

cologne4711 · 28/01/2020 07:44

Reading this for ideas as I lost my car key about a year ago now and was hoping it would have turned up by now (we have a spare so we have been able to use the car Grin but was really hoping to avoid paying £££ for a new one).

Frownette · 28/01/2020 07:51

passportpuzzle I'm in the exact same position, need it for work.

I guard my replacement with my life! If you haven't put it in the freezer check everywhere

Frownette · 28/01/2020 07:53

Actually they are quick at doing replacements although obviously it costs

Aridane · 28/01/2020 08:45

Oh - that’s OK. Phew - I thought you were going to lose a holiday!

Do you have a driving licence?

If so, take that along on Monday for proof of identity and DOB and explain that your passport is in the course of being replaced and you should be able to bring the replacement passport into the office later in the week

Marshmello · 28/01/2020 08:52

Under a pile of books or post or papers.

In a drawer.

In a bag.

In a coat pocket.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/01/2020 09:20

@cologne4711 we found our car key we list on holiday in the lining of a suitcase months (and a house move) after the holiday (after having to pay £££ on holiday to get into the car)

BedStuy · 28/01/2020 09:25

The last time someone on MN lost a passport, it'd gone down the back of the drawer, so you had to pull the whole drawer out. Either that or it was somehow attached to the inside front of the drawer where you couldn't see or feel it.

We just found something that was lost for nearly a year, which was between the back of a drawer and the inside back of the cabinet it was in.

Our wardrobes also have a hidden space behind (not visible from the side) and something fell down there that had been on top of the wardrobe!

wonkylegs · 28/01/2020 23:14

After turning the house upside down DH found his in the zip pocket of his ski jacket as he was wearing it when he last had his passport and zipped it up to keep it safe 🙄

passportpuzzle · 01/02/2020 10:05

Reporting for passport hunting duty.

I had a dream last night that I found it in the filling cabinet. I think that one's a red herring so I'm going to start with the paperwork and take it in timed blocks.

I had a flash where I remembered having to take a photo of it for an online prescription and thought it might have been while on the sofa..only 1.50, eyeshadow and ALL the biros there.

I only need a photo of it - I must have one in the last three years I have had it.

Sofa
Box of stuff to sell
Online hard drive

It's going slower than I hoped. £85 (cost of replacement) is at stake though :(

^Should definitely have kept in the freezer.

Do you live with anyone, who might have put it somewhere 'sensible', like in their travel wallet or work bag?
