Washing period knickers

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2020 11:30

Have washed and re-washed and can't get rid of the red stain (sorry TMI). Dd not keen on using them again while they're like this.

Any tips how to get the stain out please?

cuckooken your posts on this thread are coming across as quite unpleasant, there's just no need tbh.

PhilomenaChristmasPie · 27/01/2020 12:03

We haven't had this yet as her periods are very light. One of those stain remover sprays?

Apolloanddaphne · 27/01/2020 12:04

It wasn't exactly obvious what you meant from your initial post. The advice it's still the same. Make sure you use cold water to get the blood out. I can't imagine how you are still seeing stains on black pants though.

I have to say I don't understand period knickers either - what makes them different to just normal knickers apart from a padded bit? Disposable sanitary towels have stuff in the which soak up the blood don't they?

Mooncup all the way for me - although I know they might not be suitable for teenagers.

glitterbiscuits · 27/01/2020 12:05

Cold salt water for a pre soak.
Defoliant antibacterial laundry liquid is good for washing

Really? My opinion is that it's part of life and you have to get used to it. If that's unpleasant then so be it. It wasn't intended as such, then OP acts as if my question was difficult to understand

CallofDoodee · 27/01/2020 12:08

It's very easy to put your opinion across without the shitty attitude. Most people are able to do it quite successfully.

Hercwasonaroll · 27/01/2020 12:09

Some people are so judgemental and horrid.

OP cold rinse them before washing and use Vanish bar. Tbh the pants are clean even if the stains are there because they have been washed.

BarkandCheese · 27/01/2020 12:09

If you’ve washed them at 40 degrees or over the stain is probably set, although you could try vanish on them. With period pants (or at least the Cheeky Wipes ones DD has) you’re meant to rinse them out in cold water, wash no hotter than 30 degrees and don’t use fabric softer.

On regular pants I find vanish stain remover and a 30 degree wash works.

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2020 12:11

Thank you to those with helpful washing hints. Will try a cold water soak next time.

Some of these replies are weird, I thought period knickers were very well known about. Disposable pads must surely be on their way out...??

Like i said, it wasn't intended to be shitty. It is part of life and OPDD refusing to wear (what now turns out to be expensive) pants because they have a blood stain is dis playing more of an attitude than me saying 'that's life'

I'm sorry you seem to have taken exception to the way I write, but that, I'm afraid; is also 'just life' - I can't help it, it's the way I think.

LangLiveThePenis · 27/01/2020 12:14

Cold saltwater works on blood stains.

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2020 12:14

Thank you @Hercwasonaroll and @BarkandCheese we have a mixture of Cheeky Wipes and another brand I can't remember. Will do a cold water soak next time!

OP posts:
Nearlyadoctor · 27/01/2020 12:14

Dd also has the Cheekywipe ones plus 1 pair of Modibodi ones - she’s been using them for 12 months and they haven’t noticeably stained. I put them in on 30 degrees with no fab conditioner.
If they are that noticeable and you’ve washed as recommended you could contact the company and see what they advise or they may take them back to quality check.

cuckooken · 27/01/2020 12:15

They are, I just don't think it was 100% clear you meant them. Period knickers has for a long time before these specific pants referred to the knickers you wear on your period. I don't think anybody, myself included, meant to be 'weird'

45andfine · 27/01/2020 12:20

Gosh what horrible, unhelpful responses to a genuinely clear, simple question.

Thank you to those who are offering helpful advice on re-useable period pants. And thank you to the OP for posing the question in the first place.

I'm following for future tips.

BlingLoving · 27/01/2020 12:20

I haven't used period pants yet (on my list to try), but if you washed them according to instructions, I'd consider contacting the manufacturer. I assume they are supposed to be rinsed immediately in cold water though so if you didn't do that, I can imagine that there will be stains as an inevitable side effect. No matter how good the product, dried blood is very difficult to get out.

dontgobaconmyheart · 27/01/2020 12:20

Some weird period shaming comment on here Confused. There is nothing disgusting or unsanitary about period pants or menstrual blood. 'Soiled' honestly- get a bloody grip. Obviously you can/should change them if they become 'full' in the same way you would a pad except also very obviously it prevents the huge amount of landfill, so is better than disposable pads or all those flushing their tampons with scant regard for the environment Hmm.

Deriding something you've not tried is ridiculous. Shall we just let other women use whatever sanitary protection THEY like without being unpleasant and judgemental about it, especially as OP's DD is a young girl so it seems particularly unfair to judge
As an aside Not everyone is able to use a mooncup or tampons, penetration is painful for a lot of women for a lot of reasons, a bit of self awareness wouldn't go amiss, there isnt a hierarchy of sanitary protection whereby you are better and cleaner than other women.

OP- Strange it wont come out- have you tried soaking in vinegar/bicarbonate then putting through a wash. Tbh I'd call the company and ask why it's happened, seek advice, perhaps they will send a replacement if it's an issue with the fabric. Hardly cheap are they.

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2020 12:22

Great post thank you @dontgobacon

OP posts:
Rainbowx2 · 27/01/2020 12:24

Genuinely haven't heard of them. I wear reusable washable sanitary towels which are fab.
So do you just wear these with nothing else? Do you not feel a bit uncomfortable? How often do you need to change them?

Weetabollocks · 27/01/2020 12:26

I know of period pants but hadn't made the connection until the OP explained. No biggie, no need for people to get their knickers in a twist about it Wink

OP, what does the manufacturer recommend? Did you follow their instructions? If you did then they are not fit for purpose, request a return.

SunshineAngel · 27/01/2020 12:26

If it was me, I'd keep them, but ONLY wear them on heavy days in the future.

Or throw them away, knickers aren't exactly hugely expensive are they.

Thefaceofboe · 27/01/2020 12:30

Genuine question, how often do you change these knickers? I would change a pad every 3/4 hours usually so is it the same?

Thefaceofboe · 27/01/2020 12:30

@SunshineAngel Read the thread. They aren’t just a normal pair of knickers

LesLavandes · 27/01/2020 12:35

You should use tepid water. Not cold and yes, salt works as a prewash. In machine, wash on 30 degrees
