Why do scrambled eggs sometimes make me feel sick?

Do anyone else have a weird reaction to egg in certain forms?

I've felt really sick in the middle of eating scrambled egg a couple of times recently. I had to stop immediately and rush to the bathroom.

My friend has made me poached eggs a few times and I've been fine. Weird! Confused

Omg! I’ve found my people! This happens to me too. Doesn’t matter how they are cooked. Sometimes I’ll have to run to the toilet abs projectile vomit - after that I’m fine!

So weird.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 08:24

With me I think if it’s overcooked and if there too much butter. Same with omelettes (I love them but it can be a bit like egg Russian roulette).

Sewrainbow · 08/12/2020 08:25

This is interesting, I used to live on omelette and scrambled egg especially when pregnant. Recent though I've really struggled, I assumed it was the butter or cheese as I'm generally fine with egg products otherwise. That and eating too much scrambled egg for breakfast when doing weight watchers as they were no points!

Wow! Thought this was only me! For me it is soft boiled eggs or fried eggs....get a sudden rush of nausea, start gagging and then retch- but rarely sick. I thought that it was psychosomatic as I ate a lot of boiled eggs after having my tonsils out in my late 30’s (which was a truly dreadful, painful experience).

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 08/12/2020 08:32

I've been having an omelette for breakfast everyday for years which I really enjoy, but every now and again I get the sudden rush of nausea. Only happened a handful of times, but it is so sudden and overwhelming and have to leg it to the sink. I tried googling, but haven't found an explanation.

sluj · 08/12/2020 08:36

I have begun to get this too after years of loving eggs. I think its a texture thing as I seem fine with boiled eggs but finding omelette, scrambled and poached eggs make me feel sick after a couple of mouthfuls. I wonder if its psychological as I am also funny about meat and really only like minced beef or chicken breast with no bone or skin. If I stop and think what an egg actually is...Hmm

AnneOfCleavage · 08/12/2020 08:36

My DD is the same, how weird - I thought she was being dramatic.
She can eat them in cakes and pancakes etc but says she feels sick after eating a boiled one or scrambled one so doesn't want to eat them that way anymore. She can occasionally have a hard boiled one if it's got mayo and paprika on it but only sporadically otherwise the feeling comes back.

I know this thread is old and that no one originally on it could identify why this happens so I think we're still going to be clueless but it's so useful knowing it's a thing.

Cheeseismymiddlename · 08/12/2020 08:38

Blimey . So many of us Grin!

CodenameVillanelle · 08/12/2020 08:40

This happened to me! Only with omelettes and hard boiled eggs Confused I actually threw up a couple of times before I stopped eating them!

Now vegan so don't eat them at all, but I could eat them as ingredients perfectly fine. Weird

Amortentia · 08/12/2020 08:43

Oh my god, I thought it was just me who felt like this. I couldn’t eat eggs as a child, they made me gag. I’ve been eating a lot of scrambled or poached eggs on toast this year and getting progressively worse stomach pains I thought I was reacting to the bread. Most of my family have IBS or celiac but maybe it’s the eggs.

mintich · 08/12/2020 08:43

This happens to me too! I get such a sore bloated stomach. But can eat a fried egg with no problems. I also have no problems with milk, butter etc separately

OhMsBeliever · 08/12/2020 08:43

I had to stop eating fried or soft boiled eggs for a while as I'd get horrendous stomach pain and nausea after. Was fine with hard boiled or eggs as an ingredient in something. I don't really like scrambled eggs anyway, so don't know if they would have given me the same reaction.

I can eat fried and soft boiled eggs now, so whatever it was seemed to have stopped. I'm always worried it will come back though.

Mistymonday · 08/12/2020 08:59

Eggs always made me nauseous but I have been vegan for ten years so not an issue any more. There are some great scrambled egg/omelette alternatives now.

KarenCBC · 25/12/2020 09:52

Oh my god! I also feel like I’ve found my people. I’ve had this for about 10 years and thought it was psychological. I used to love omelettes and Scrambled eggs but can’t eat either without being sick. Yet I’m fine with cake etc. However, I’ve just had pancakes for Christmas breakfast and 🤮. Seems it’s getting worse. Interestingly I’ve never liked yolk on its own so used to eat boiled and fried but just the white. I wonder if that was the first sign...

WankPuffins · 25/12/2020 10:04

For the past couple of years, every time I eat eggs (boiled, poached, whatever), I get a terrible full stomach ache that lasts for ages.

I just don't eat them anymore which is a shame as I love them!

kermits · 25/12/2020 10:19

You can tell the difference between the two by the symptoms. While an allergy can cause diarrhea and other symptoms of stomach upset too, an allergic reaction to eggs can also cause breathing difficulties and a drop in blood pressure.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/12/2020 10:21

Well scrambled eggs look a bit like vomit.

kermits · 25/12/2020 10:21

I was recently given free range eggs and I had no symptoms at all and the taste was noticeably better while the egg was such a rich yellow.

ChristmasUserName2020 · 25/12/2020 10:38

I get this. Sometimes I just gag and have to throw it away, same with porridge. Doesn’t often happen and never with any other food. Weird 🤮 🤮

umpteennamechanges · 25/12/2020 10:49

@SleepWarrior

Like a PP I also get terrible stomach cramps and diarrhoea an hour after eating eggs, but only in the last year or two. I have built up tolerance by spending 6 months eating tiny portions (like a 1/8 tsp) when I'm making them for anyone else and slowly increasing the amount. I can now manage about half an egg without pain. Scrambled had always made me feel sicky too but I don't know if there's a link!

Blimey...wouldn't it be easier to just not eat eggs if your body doesn't tolerate them?

PickAChew · 25/12/2020 10:50

Do you add milk or cream to them?

PickAChew · 25/12/2020 10:52

Aaargh! Zombie.
