Why do scrambled eggs sometimes make me feel sick?

Do anyone else have a weird reaction to egg in certain forms?

I've felt really sick in the middle of eating scrambled egg a couple of times recently. I had to stop immediately and rush to the bathroom.

My friend has made me poached eggs a few times and I've been fine. Weird! Confused

I can’t hear than name without the follow up ‘...with John Major?????’

moleeye · 26/01/2020 19:16

Oh god me!

And only since I had my 2nd baby in March.

Scrambled eggs make me very ill, I've been sick after eating them 🤢

Poached, fried or in egg mayo fine. Hard boiled however, NOPE!

Oh and I can't let anyone else cook them so I don't eat them when out anymore 🙈

Me too! No idea what it is though, maybe a low level intolerance. I get a headache and feel sick for about 10 minutes. Omelettes are the worst, then scrambled eggs, I’m fine with fried or poached. So weird! I still eat omelettes though because I love them. Confused

Peanutbutteryogurt · 26/01/2020 19:30

I'm the same, not actually sick but a rush of nausea. Not every time but most of the time. Same thing with bananas!

Airplanes · 26/01/2020 19:30

I used to eat a lot of eggs, I started to feel sick then actually threw up a couple of times. I did a lot of research and it seems like you can build up an intolerance to the sulphur in eggs. The fresher they are, the less sulphur so I was fine getting eggs laid that day from a friend who kept chickens.

Peanutbutteryogurt · 26/01/2020 19:31

Yes omlettes are the worst, I can't actually eat them because they make me feel so sick.

castlesfromtherubble · 26/01/2020 19:32

Omg, I'm so glad it's not just me.

I feel like I could vomit (never actually do) immediately after eating scrambled eggs.

Theworldisfullofgs · 26/01/2020 19:33

Me too. Happened during and continued after my 2nd pregnancy. I can eat them now sometimes but only with v fresh eggs.

Same with boiled eggs.

EmbarrassedAndEnraged · 26/01/2020 19:34

Wow! So many replies!!!!!

I feel intrigued and relieved to share this odd condition with so many others. Strange how lots of us never used to have an issue but now do.

I'm so glad I posted this!

Late to the party but yes, omelette and eggs do this to me. Sick and dizzy. I had intolerance testing for something else entirely and it turns out I have a mild intolerance to eggs. No big loss since they made me feel so crap.

LuvMyBoyz · 26/01/2020 19:49

And me. Since I turned 50. I decided to ignore it (slight nausea about 10 min after eating eggy things) because I enjoy eggs so much and they are an important part of my diet. Not so noticeable lately. Glad I’m not alone.

Silversun83 · 26/01/2020 20:45

I often feel sick after eating most forms of egg, but I still persevere as I like them and want them as a healthy part of my diet. Now others have mentioned it, I wonder if it is a slight intolerance.

JuniorMumto1 · 26/01/2020 20:58

I have found my people!

I love a fried egg but about half way through I get this sudden rush of nausea and have actually ended up being sick a couple times. Definitely got worse after having a baby.

Likethebattle · 26/01/2020 21:02

I love eggs but even thought thought of poached eggs turns my stomach....not sure why.

MoveOnTheCards · 26/01/2020 21:03

Ooh, me too! It only started with me a couple of years ago, sometimes I’m absolutely fine but others, a few forkfuls in and I’m gagging and throwing them up. Once I’ve thrown them up I feel better (No stomach ache or lasting nausea) but can’t look at the eggs left on my plate.

Doesn’t happen every time but usually only scrambled when it does. I’ve not changed how I make them so puzzled!

Am off to google developing sulphur intolerance.

NoneButOurselves · 26/01/2020 21:06

Me too! Also a recent - last two years - thing. For me it's boiled eggs that make me nauseous, and that's after years of having one for breakfast. Fried/poached seems ok, scrambled mostly ok.

EmbarrassedAndEnraged · 27/01/2020 16:34

I'm amazed so many other people are experiencing similar reactions. Very odd and intriguing.

UnrulyPig · 27/01/2020 16:42

Yes! I thought that it was just me.

Can happily eat eggs soft or hard boiled, fried or poached but after a couple of forkfuls of scrambled eggs I get a sort of metallic taste in my mouth and the same wave of nausea PPs have described. I don't think it's the butter because I bloody love butter. I even like the texture of scrambled, but actually eating them makes me feel like I need to throw up.

I miss scrambled eggs Sad

katy1213 · 27/01/2020 16:43

Me too, and it's only over the last few years. Only with poached and lightly fried, so I thought it was undercooked egg white was the problem. Chanced it in a very smart hotel with eggs benedict once and was struggling to control the heaving. Only occasionally am I actually sick and it's over in a trice but very unpleasant. Strangely, I'm fine with lightly-boiled eggs and actually prefer runny omelettes.

katy1213 · 27/01/2020 16:45

Also what @unrulypig says - a metallic taste.

NewNameChange2020 · 27/01/2020 16:45

I am the same! I googled last year after a new diet involving lots of eggs for protein and having awful cramps and sickness, and found similar comments like these on other forums! I think someone suggested it's to do with how the protein is cooked or formed in different cooking styles, but I don't know if that was just a random idea or someone with actual knowledge.

For me 1 fried egg is fine, but 2 I'll feel quite sickly and crampy but it's manageable, though any more I know I will have the runs. Scrambled or omelette - tummy cramps and or nausea/diarrhoea, horrendous, not worth it. Poached - no way, will vomit. French toast - absolutely no problem. In cakes, batters etc no worries. So weird!

ColourMyDreams · 27/01/2020 17:06

I'm allergic to eggs. I have the same reaction if i eat one.
My body can't process the enzyme in the egg, my body thinks its a poison and tries to reject it via vomiting, according to the consultant.
Even just the smell of eggs cooking make me heave, watching a creme egg advert on the TV, looking at them raw, watching people eat them, all makes me heave, but that is more a psychological than physical reaction, based purely on how ill an egg makes me.
Fortunately i have and understanding Husband who waits until i'm not around to cook eggs.
Yet strangely, i can eat egg based products, such as cake, yorkshire puddings, mayonnaise etc.
It's just eggs in their naked form which set me off.
The allergy didn't develop until i was in my 20's. I loved eggs as a kid.
It may be that you have developed an allergy or intolerance OP.

Cheeseismymiddlename · 08/12/2020 08:13

I know it’s an old thread but did anyone who posted ever get to the bottom of why scrambled eggs make them vomit.

Just happened to me again , and I’m really perplexed. Had not even finished the serving and had to run to the bathroom! Googled it as it’s not the first time and found this thread.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 08/12/2020 08:17

Were they overcooked or undercooked?
