What's the scariest dream you've ever had? I'm speachless!

I just had a nap with DS, something I haven't done in many months. I really needed it as was feeling really tired.

I dreamt of a terrorist attack. It made no sense at all, I remember telling DH in the dream that this was all very sudden since I wasn't aware we were in dispute with anyone or had upset/pissed off another country

It was bombs, there were these plans type things in the sky and they were dropping random bombs. I could see them come out of the plane. One was very close and the impact of it did hit me but it wasn't fatal.

Each bomb seemed to be getting closer and closer, then I woke up. It was incredibly real and I've never felt so shaken, I was literally fearful for my life and I remember being very 'aware' of my feelings in the dream. It's still haunting me now - And I'm aware it really is just a dream.

What's the scariest thing you've ever dreamt, that had stayed with you?

My late husband kept randomly appearing when I was out shopping. He then followed me at close quarters. The worst of it was that he had empty eye sockets and a manic laugh.

WokeJokeOpus · 21/01/2020 21:02

When I was a child on holiday in a caravan bed facing the wall, there were little pictures like line drawings, drawing themselves as I watched. One was a small character with a big hat on and it had its head down. It slowly raised its head and as the brim of the hat tipped up it revealed a terrifying face. I shook my head and screamed really loudly but of course I hadn’t really, because you can’t in a dream.
I was convinced I was awake.

JoyceDivision · 21/01/2020 21:04

I have had two separate dreams re DC's passing, in grotesque surreal and very realistic circumstances.

I dreamt I was sleeping in the attic of an old house being worked on, everyone working on it was sleeping in the loft but I woke up to a faint light and saw a torch slowly bobbing along towards me slowly flashing in and off and I was terrified, paralysed with fear and woke up gasping for breath trying to scream.

Last week I dreamt DH and I walked in a room and found Mil in bed and she had passed away. We covered her face with some fabric but I thought her face moved.... DH and I stsrted, this is a dream so not real life! having sex on a sofa, but I could see really small movements from mil... I was trying to tell DH but he wasn't listening, he got up to get something and mil was stood waiting for him in the hallway!

It really really freaked me out Grin

I dream about once a year of an alien invasion, in the dream I will be outside doing something mundane and look up at the sky and see these weird twirling shapes and then say oh no, it's happening! In my dream I'm filled with terror and I usually wake up not long after so I never find out what actually happens!

OldGrinch · 21/01/2020 21:13

The worst nightmare I ever had I was in a beautiful garden at dusk and all around me were these marble statues, like classical ones, and I realized that they were all slowly starting to come alive, they were starting to move towards me and I had an indescribable sensation of pure evil coming from them. I knew they were coming to kill me. I tried to run but my feet could hardly move they were like stuck to the ground. I woke up in absolute terror in a cold sweat and shaking like a leaf.

SuzieBishop · 21/01/2020 21:15

I had the weirdest nightmare just last week that made me shout out in my dream but out loud in real life that made me wake myself and my husband up!! I dreamt that there was a poltergeist in my house and it went into my 2 year old DS and made him start grabbing at me and screaming weird noises at me so I grabbed him and screamed STOP IT - it was so freaky and it took me ages to get back to sleep!!!

PenOrPencil · 21/01/2020 21:20

I dreamt about the whole family drowning in a ferry disaster. I was trying so hard to save my children! Dh had to shake me awake, I was screaming and thrashing around in bed like mad. I couldn’t shake that dream for days, it was so vivid and real.

Imonlydoingwhatican · 21/01/2020 21:20

Lots of bad dreams, end of tje world types, terroist, war similar to the one you described. Plus a helicopter searching windows in block of flats.

Scariest one though was being chased by a bear, in a normal street, i remember it pouncing on me and i wake up (i also woke dh as i screamed and jumped up) never done that before

ImFreeToDoWhatIWant · 21/01/2020 21:21

Possibly triggering for baby loss.

My worst was dreaming I saw ds1's dead body after his birth went wrong. I was 8 months pregnant and it was horrific. He was all black, and alone. So alone. Took me weeks to shake the feelings off, I was barely ready when I went in to labour.

Whynosnowyet · 21/01/2020 21:22

That my dd drowned.
We live at the beach..
Sad

After one of my miscarriages I had such disturbing dreams, the one I remember was driving on a motorway which was on a sort of bridge into a tunnel and the tunnel was on fire and the other drivers were just burned skeletons driving along in their cars, it was terrifying!

I can't remember if the other one was miscarriage hormone related or just a flashback to when I was really struggling with DS1 but in the dream (although we were doing OK IRL by that point) I'd agreed with a social worker or someone that he would be better off going to stay with a foster family for a while, I'd met the family and they were nice but I felt completely numb like the bottom of my stomach had fallen out and I had to stand there and pretend to be OK and happy for DS1 and reassure him that he was going to have a lovely time and wouldn't it be fun? While he got driven off in a car with strangers and I felt like I'd utterly failed him. I woke myself up sobbing out loud and couldn't stop for ages, it was awful. Never ever had a dream that was that vivid before or since.

Had a weird one when I started medication for ADHD about a theme park ride, which I don't especially like anyway, the ride was supposed to make you face your fears, so there was a heights bit, which I closed my eyes for and that was OK, then as part of the ride it stopped you by a ledge and you had to walk along this thin ledge to get to the other end and continue the ride. There was a wall by the ledge which was too tall to see the top of, but low enough to reach the top so you had something to hold onto. I was holding onto the wall and trying not to fall when I looked up, the ceiling was a mirror and I could see on top of the wall (where my hands were) was a platform absolutely swarming with huge spiders. I hate spiders so I went AAAAUUUUAAAUUAUGHGHGH NOPE WHY AM I DOING THIS?? And at the same time flung my hands off the ledge, then suddenly as I was falling, realised it was a dream (there is something about dream-falling which is wrong) and I could just choose to stop having it, so I woke up.

Have also dreamt about an ex which was extremely unsettling because you think you'll never have to face them again only for them to turn up in your sleep after years and years Angry bastard.

Twenty2 · 21/01/2020 21:30

Has anyone else woken from a dream, only to realise they're actually still dreaming and can't wake up or even move? I had a series of these dreams over a few months. Sometimes the cycle of dreaming then waking, only I'm still dreaming went on several times over one night. It was exhausting and quite frightening.

winniesanderson · 21/01/2020 21:30

I used to have lots of nightmares and have had some weird recurring ones over the years.

Im walking around a really nicely furnished Victorian house. There's lots of rooms and even though I can't see or hear anyone I know somebody is following me and watching me from around corners. It's a she and she's wearing a blue taffeta type dress and she means me harm. I can feel her hatred. I hate this one.

In another dream I'm playing a piano beside a large open window in this huge ballroom in what is my grandmothers house in the dream. When all of a sudden, with a weird horror movie sound effect, a female corpse leans into the window grinning at me. I run and she chases me through fields. And the way she runs is really creepy and wobbly but she still nearly catches me. I've had this one a lot.

Everything's two dimensional and black and white and I walk into a huge room with flashing black lines which are coming from the floor and reaching for the ceiling. When one hits the ceiling I know I'll die. And then when that happens I walk into the room again and the whole thing replays for what feels like hours.

Another one is similar to a previous posters and involves an alien invasion. The whole world gets covered in these small holes in the ground and walls, any surface basically and this is how the aliens can see us. We have to try to hide because the holes only come when they think we are there. It's not random. I'm in a bathroom with some of my family and a hole suddenly appears. This ones weird because I feel like I remember the dream while I'm having it.

I actually haven't had a bad dream for a few years that I can remember. Hope I'm not giving my brain ideas 😂

BertieBotts · 21/01/2020 21:32

I usually get the fake wake up but not actually awake dreams when I'm anxious about oversleeping and being late for something. I can move in the dream but I think I'm awake for real and get really panicky.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 21/01/2020 21:35

I had a nightmare when I was little that I still remember to this day. I was on top of the turret of a castle when a turrett greys arms and a head and chucked me off the side. That was scary!

YesILikeItToo · 21/01/2020 21:37

I dreamt that my mother discovered trepanning (where people remove pieces of their skull to achieve enlightenment) and decided to remove her eyes. I took a dim view of this and said she was on her own with that one. She went next door with a thing a bit like a corkscrew, but then started shouting that she couldn’t get them out and I had to come and help her put them back in.

Knitwit99 · 21/01/2020 21:40

DS wandered off from us in a park once. He was using my phone for Pokémon Go so dh called it and we found him very quickly.

That night I had a dream that we hadn't found him and he was calling me using my phone to say that a man had taken him and he was at the man's house but he didn't know where and he was locked in a room and the man wouldn't let him out. He kept saying he was scared and wanted me to come and get him. In the dream I was just trying to keep him calm and get DH to call the police to trace where he was calling from but he was so upset. It was the most terrifying dream. I felt so helpless. I went to check on him in his bed when I woke up and just sat on the floor and cried.

I often think that storyline would make a really terrifyingly book or movie. Not that I could watch it now...

thaegumathteth · 21/01/2020 21:42

I have always had dreams that differ but have the same theme - basically a world where everything is different but I'm the only one who recognises it.

Eg : my kids don't exist anymore but nobody remembers them, people walk on their hands but I'm the only one who thinks it's weird, there's no police or law system and chaos reigns and nobody sees that it's ever been different ....

MetallicHighlights · 21/01/2020 21:42

Dream happened when DS was a baby, DD about 10.
We were staying at my parents’ house near the sea when it came on the news that a massive tsunami was on the way. For some reason we had several hours’ notice so we had time to pack my car, my dad’s car and my brother’s van with essentials and all the irreplaceable family stuff before driving to a place further along the coast, a little bit inland and much higher up. We had a good view over the area we’d left so once we were safe we parked up to watch. The wave was about to hit land. It was enormous.
My phone rang. It was my daughter. She’d just woken up all alone in her grandparents’ house. Somehow we’d left her behind.
As the wave crashed towards her all I could do was pretend that everything was fine and we’d be back for her any minute. I watched it hit and the phone went dead.
Still makes me feel sick with guilt ten years later.

hagsrus0 · 21/01/2020 21:43

Dreamed I was in charge of a signal box, attention wandered, looked down at a wrecked train. Never been so glad to wake up!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 21/01/2020 21:51

I've had a sort of recurring dream where I'm in a house and there's an overwhelming sense of evil. Each time I have the dream I'm further into the house. Last time I was almost up to the attic and I had to run down through the house whilst this sense of evil was just behind me. I woke up sweating and my heart was pounding and I was praying. I really don't want to know what's in the attic.

gemdrop84 · 21/01/2020 21:54

I've often had bad dreams and nightmares, I'm quite a lucid dreamer and can wake myself up but this summer I had some sort of experience over three nights I can't quite process. First night I fell asleep, I was having a lucid dream of laying in bed and something was standing in the corner of my bedroom, that corner was darker then the rest of the room, blacker than pitch black. As I tried to get myself to wake up I felt a hand (with 3 or 4 skinny fingers with long nails) on my head. Second night was exactly the same dream, except "it" wasn't in my room, it was downstairs creeping around. Third dream, exactly the same as the second night, except "it" was at the bottom of the stairs, as I tried to wake myself up I heard some guttural growl/screech and stomping feet as it flew up the stairs, the whole room was shaking and then I woke up. Over the days these were occurring, my dogs didn't want to be alone and I felt I was being watched in the house. I found myself avoiding all mirrors/windows-anything I could see a reflection in. That was a long week, never been so scared in my life.

eminencegrise · 21/01/2020 21:57

Loads! I once took a malaria tablet that, I found out later, is known to cause horrific nightmares and those ones seriously still haunt me.

namechangingtime · 21/01/2020 21:58

When I was a kid I dreamt that my baby brother, little sister, myself, and my mum went for a walk at the dump. In my dream the dump was a maze but instead of plants it was rubbish. My mum then turned around and said goodbye, took my sister by the hand, and walked off. I was running for what felt like hours in my dream but never found them.
When my daughter was born I'd just finished watching a tv show where the baby is kidnapped (hadn't known at the time otherwise I'd have never watched it). I dreamt that somebody posted a teddy bear through my letter box with a note attached, I even watched him walking away and it was light outside but midnight. I was saying to my partner how cute the teddy bear is and what does the note say. It said "I can't wait to watch 'dd' grow up". I freaked out, remembered seeing teddy cams on an advert and rang the police. The police were trying to say there's no evidence etc and I said "if you don't do anything, I will find this guy and I'll stab him. And I won't stab to injure I'll stab to kill". They asked if that was a threat on another persons life as if it was I could be arrested and I replied yes it was, but only if they didn't try to find him and take the teddy bear away too. They told me to call my mum to calm me down whilst they sent someone to take it away. I woke up whilst on the phone to her and had to call her in real life because I was so shaken up

cousinboneless · 21/01/2020 21:58

When DD was 6 months old and had just gone into her own room for the first time. I dreamt that I saw someone come into her room on the baby monitor, the man picked her up out of her cot and smashed her head against the wall. Exp caught me as I threw myself out of bed to get to her. I can still see the images in my mind. She's 8 years old tomorrow.
