2 adults, budget up to £200 a night. We will be going out of school holidays mid week.

Lakeside hotel and Spa is lovely

My sister lives in Grasmere. Loads of nice hotels there. And it's a good central base. The afternoon tea at The Wordsworth is lovely.

Lakeside hotel and spa is really relaxing

Clawdy · 17/01/2020 18:30

Aynsome Manor in Cartmel is lovely. And Armathwaite Hall near Keswick.

katy1213 · 17/01/2020 18:38

Wild Boar at Windermere - rooms nothing special but food is amazing, plus there's a micro-brewery and wonderful collection of whiskies in the bar. Big roaring fire to enjoy, too.

mnahmnah · 17/01/2020 18:41

The Inn on the Lake in Glenridding on Ullswater. Or Armathwaite hall at Bassenthwaite

CherryPavlova · 17/01/2020 18:42

Lodore is good with children and has pool, high tea etc.

AuntieMarys · 17/01/2020 21:29

Great suggestions! Will probably be September time.
Thanks x

Have a look at Storrs Hall. We had our mini honeymoon there. It was beautiful, peacefully away from traffic and had a lovely garden/ grounds right on the lake.

Tulipvase · 17/01/2020 21:32

I always wanted to go to The Samling - but it was a while ago so not sure if it is still good.

SaDo12 · 17/01/2020 21:33

Lindeth Howe, amazing food

Wigeon · 17/01/2020 21:35

Recently came across this pub with rooms in the Lake District, but it looks very swish, and the food in the restaurant looks great (v good Trip Advisor too): Kirkstile Inn

mnahmnah · 17/01/2020 22:07

I used to work at the Kirkstile! Lovely. But be isolated.

mnahmnah · 17/01/2020 22:07

Very isolated!

kazza446 · 17/01/2020 22:09

The wild boar is lovely!

emwithme · 17/01/2020 22:31

Holbeck Ghyll is lovely

SunsetBoulevard3 · 17/01/2020 22:34

The Kirkstile is lovely. I’ve had dinner there. The Inn in the lake in Ullswater I would not recommend. I went there last year and hated it.

GuyFawkesDay · 17/01/2020 22:38

Wild boar every time. Luxurious but not pretentious.

North lakes (just along from Blencathra). Beautiful, off beaten track, and you eat breakfast up a spiral staircase in a medieval Pele tower. Amazing!

Strugglingmum73 · 17/01/2020 22:44

Whitbarrow is lovely. The hotel bit is adults only.

SkyIsANeighbourhood · 17/01/2020 23:21

Merewood Country House Hotel in Windermere - lovely and relaxed, but doesn't have spa facilities or anything. Food amazing.

Lodore Falls just outside Keswick.

Wild Boar also lovely.

Askham Hall, although not quite the "right" area of the Lakes.

Kirkstile is lovely but it might be better to have a meal there one night/afternoon instead, rather than staying as it is isolated. That said, the Lorton Valley and surrounding area is arguably the most stunning part of the Lakes (local here).

Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite.

If you are able to push the boat out a little, then both the Gilpin and Forestside are wonderful.

LindaLyndell · 17/01/2020 23:35

Another vote for the Merewood! It's beautiful 😍

Dowser · 17/01/2020 23:38

Sado..we are staying at lindeth Howe next month.
Didn’t it use to be Beatrix potters old home?

Lindy2 · 17/01/2020 23:48

I would recommend either, The Inn on The Lake or Storrs Hall.

The Inn on the Lake is a lovely, quite modern looking hotel.

Storrs Hall is like an old stately home.

Both are in wonderful lakeside locations and have a lovely homely but luxurious feel to them.

I'm not sure why there's several recommendations for the Wild Boar. If I'm thinking of the right place it's basically a pub on a fairly busy road. There a so many much more scenic locations to stay at. I have eaten there a few times. A few years ago the food was great. We ate there this Autumn though when we were last in the Lakes and we were really disappointed. It is not like it used to be at all.
