What’s your annual salary and your biggest beauty splurge? How much did it cost? How old were you? One off or more frequently?

Can be clothes, make up, hair treatment, face treatment, cosmetic plastic surgery.

Kinda trying to justify to myself my spending isn’t too bad haha

When I was single and childless, during my divorce from my first husband, I earned £25k pa and I spent about £4k on a week long trip to New York by myself! It was amazing and I'll always be glad I did it.

unbaffled · 13/01/2020 23:36

If you are having to try and justify it, then it probably is too bad.

KellyHall · 13/01/2020 23:37

Sorry, just re-read and saw you said beauty splurge Confused

I've always thought of having a breast reduction and lift but I've always found something else I'd rather spend the money on.

Salary just under 20k full time. Biggest splurge is revitalash. And having my hair cut every 4 weeks.

availableforlunch · 14/01/2020 06:38

£70k. Biggest splurge is £200 on Botox every 3 months. Although I had it done six weeks ago and it's wearing off already which I'm not massively impressed by.

Snowy111 · 14/01/2020 06:43

£35 every 5 weeks for my hair colour!

Have bought lipsticks/foundations etc for £30+ and have never felt anything other than ripped off so I tend not to bother. Once you get it out of the packaging it isn’t all that imho

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2020 08:27

It doesn't matter what others spend.

What is important is whether it is worthwhile to you and whether you can still cover essential expenditures, because with all the justification in the world, beyond basic hygiene and clothing, which doesn't need to cost very much, it's all a discretionary luxury, so if you're spending hundreds a month on those things, but are missing basic bills, getting into debt or have no pension, then that's problem, but otherwise, do what you like.

You can only spend each pound once and if you choose to spend your spare money on those things and they make you happy, then no-one can criticise you for it.

Elouera · 14/01/2020 08:32

A few years back I was on £62,000 and spent £300 is on a home IPL laser hair remover. I still use it now though and am almost hair free!

Camomila · 14/01/2020 10:40

Probably spending £50 at the Benefit counter for wedding make up - earning £16500 at the time.
I've earnt more since then but I'm not really into beauty treatments etc (lots of allergies).

I agree it doesn't matter what others spend of you can afford it and it will make you happy - other people might spend their disposable income on travel/home furnishings/eating in restaurants etc or something else you might not find as exciting as them.

mindutopia · 14/01/2020 10:46

£45k and twice a year I might buy some Liz Earle. Once I accidentally got a £200 cut and colour (because I didn’t really think through the pricing when I made the appointment!). Blush

I tend to splurge on food and drink and travel, not beauty though.

Minai · 14/01/2020 11:00

Salary is £0 (sahm) biggest expenditure is getting hair highlighted and cut every 8 weeks £70.

CharlotteMD · 14/01/2020 12:27

£78k and I get a £67 massage about 2/3 times a month.

Namaste6 · 14/01/2020 16:01

£120k. My biggest beauty splurge is around £150 on a cut and colour every 8 weeks. I also love liz Earle products - treat myself from time to time.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/01/2020 16:10

I'm having breast implants removed and replaced on Friday £7580

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/01/2020 16:11

The £7580 is the price of the surgery.

Jaybird100 · 15/01/2020 17:05

Thanks for all the interesting replies so far everyone.

£28k and I once spent £200 odd on some custom made knee high boots.

Actually, it was probably the few hundred quid on my wedding makeup artist that has been my biggest ever splurge on beauty stuff.

Babymamaroon · 15/01/2020 20:47

I earn well tbh so do treat myself to spa nights away, massages and my favourite splurge is at Christmas with a beauty calendar. This year I bought the Fortnum & Mason one which was about £195 but worth over £700 - frankly a bargain!

The most I've spent in a spa trip has been £1k. Totally worth the investment in me!!

Sazquatch · 15/01/2020 20:55

Earn £53k.
Spend:
£220 every 6 months on Botox.
£50 a month on a mild facial peel.
£70 a month on hair colour.
£30 every three weeks on lashes.
£27 a month on brows.
£25 every three weeks on nails.

Averaging out at about £200 a month, you’d think I’d look fabulous, but alas, this is the basic level of maintenance just to look ‘okay.’

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2020 21:06

Average income is roughly £12,000, I spend between £100-£200 a month on make-up. That sounds a lot, but that's my hobby/obsession.

RoyaleMum · 15/01/2020 21:14

Earn around £50k
Dont spend loads on myself regularly
£35 nails and gel toes once a month
£200 lip fillers 2x a year

Very occasionally and I mean maybe 1x a year I would buy a molton brown shower gel at around £25.

Oh once i got conned into buying £75 worth of shampoo at the salon and it made my hair feel like candy floss so that was a waste

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 15/01/2020 21:17

Earn £40k. Get my eyebrows microbladed every 9 months at £150/time. I also spend a lot on make up and skin care - think murad, elemis etc. Recently bought a murad gift set on sale for £87. My skin looks pretty glowy though so it's worth it.

joystir59 · 15/01/2020 21:42

£10k and good quality English soap and face cream

Elowyn · 16/01/2020 02:18

£130k pa

I spent ~£1000 at the start of January for 10 facials to be done over the course of the year (alternating hydrafacials and mandelic acid facials)

Last year had a fashion shopper spend 3 hours clothes shopping with me for £320 and spent £2.5k on clothes in that shopping session; helped me decide what brands and clothes suit my 5-foot dumpy pear shape

~£70 for haircuts, ~£50 for gel manicures

Still don't look 'polished'... getting fat as I don't exercise or take care of my looks so much (makeup novice at 47 years old)

Casino218 · 16/01/2020 02:56

£44k and a £50 haircut every 2 months. Although I'm thinking that I will treat myself to regular Molten Brown products next year as I'm due a pay rise to £50k next year and I really like them.
