Period pants recommendations please

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 12/01/2020 20:39

My daughter has not long started her periods and I was wondering about period pants as a back up/extra to sanatory towels.
She is still a little irregular and therefore can be caught out, thought these worn a few days before she is due might be a good option. Also she bleeds heavily and often leaks so I wondered if worn with a pad they might help.
They are expensive though and I've heard mixed reviews so has anyone actually used them or can recommend a decent brand.
Thanks

My dd and I both have quite heavy periods , and modibodi have worked week and stopped me flooding .

Ohyesiam · 12/01/2020 23:07

Oh and you can send them back within 40 days if you’ve used them bc and they don’t work for you

Nearlyadoctor · 13/01/2020 06:24

Dd is 12 and has been using the Cheekywipe ones ever since she started her periods 12 months ago. We also have pair of Modibodi ones but they are 3x the price and in her opinion no better.
She’s had no leaks and no need for an extra pad. We have the sport ones for daytime and the heavier ones ( can’t thin what they’re called for night)

Another vote for Modibodi.

BigBairyHollocks · 13/01/2020 06:38

Have modibodi and would also recommend

margaritasbythesea · 13/01/2020 06:49

Watching with interest.

Me and my daughter use cheapo ones from
Aliexpress. No idea how they compare to the pricier versions and they take a few weeks to be delivered but we both love them and I’d never go back to periods without them. Worth a try for the price anyway.

Dd has these in M which translates to roughly age 9-10

I’ve got these in XXXL which is a 14.

I've tried only Modibodi. They are expensive, but I have not leaked onto my clothes once since I started using them as a pad backup. Wish I'd had them years ago.

smemorata · 13/01/2020 10:24

Quick question to other Modibodi users - do you really wash them on a cold wash? I only realised you are meant to do this after I had been washing them on a normal wash for a few times, which is much more convenient. I don't want to put on a cold wash just for a few items.

5zeds · 13/01/2020 10:26

You can wash the vast majority of clothes on cold anyway, but it’s really about setting stains. Cold water works better on blood than warm.

smemorata · 13/01/2020 10:27

Thanks.

sansou · 13/01/2020 10:32

I've bought Thinx for DD when they were on offer. She definitely likes them but they are expensive. I would definitely give the links above a shot!

Sherloidbaisherloid · 13/01/2020 10:38

Are period pants really bulky? Would they be suitable to wear when exercising? I hate wearing towels when at the gym as they don’t always feel secure and I’m always paranoid about leaks. Can’t use tampons

MrEzraGoldberg · 13/01/2020 12:13

sherloid - I find the period pants I have to be quite bulky. Definitely wouldn't wear them under leggings, though under looser tracksuit trousers they would probably be ok.

DesLynamsMoustache · 13/01/2020 12:17

I use the Cheeky Wipes ones and no issues! Also use their reusable pads

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 13/01/2020 12:19

this is timely
my 12yo is struggling with night-time flooding, and we were wondering whether these might help. I might get one modibodi and one of the cheaper ones and compare.

exmouse · 13/01/2020 12:21

I have modi bodi and think
Modibodi are amazing x think just slightly less so. I use them in conjunction with a mooncup and have found it a complete revelation.

MrEzraGoldberg · 13/01/2020 12:23

I used period pants and a reusable pad at night and that seems to have kept the heavy flow contained so far. Anything that navigates past the pad finds itself on the absorbent pants so doesn't make it to the sheets!

Natsku · 13/01/2020 12:24

Another vote for Modibodi! I use in combo with a menstrual cup but also wear them a couple of days before I'm due in case I start early. They are worth the investment, I shall be getting them for DD.

palomapear · 13/01/2020 12:30

Wuku ones have a bigger absorbing area than others. Without being bulky.

smemorata · 13/01/2020 12:35

Sherloid - I use the lighter ones under leggings but not the heavy flow ones.

5zeds · 13/01/2020 13:03

@Sherloidbaisherloid modibod do leggings with built in protection. I don’t find the pants bulky. Honestly they are my favourite pants, sooooooo soft.

MyEnormousTurnip · 13/01/2020 13:23

The Aliexpress ones I linked to upthread aren’t bulky at all.

Ilovesausages · 13/01/2020 13:27

I have tried a few. I love the concept but I have found that the absorbent material goes al the way up the back of the pant but then stops short at the front.

My period often mostly comes out of the front so then they leak.

I remember reading a thread on Mumsnet a while ago about how it is common for the blood to come out at the front so I’m surprised that they have been created like that!

Spartonian · 13/01/2020 14:27

Modibodi Red is the range aimed at teens and pre teens and my DD prefers the black shorts to the knickers.

I personally use Modibodi and cheeky wipes, I use the modibodi for heavy days and the cheeky wipes for lighter day.

I don't use any other protection along side them.
