What kind of house do you live in?

I love thinking about how different we all are and was wondering what your home are like.
I’ll start... I’m in a regional town on the coast in NSW. My house is two storey, 4 bedroom lounge, dining, kitchen all beds upstairs.
Built about 30 years ago so cosmetically dated but extremely comfortable. We rent because we missed the housing boom.

A crumbling 4 bedroom 250 year old granite farmhouse in West Coast Scotland. Lots of outbuildings, barns and byres.

3 bed 1930s mid terrace in the Midlands. It's not very big but it is mine.

goldopals · 11/01/2020 10:49

Regional Victoria. 4 bedroom house built on a hill with substantial under house storage

Buddywoo · 11/01/2020 10:50

I live in a village in Oxfordshire in a stone 3 bed detached house built in l970. It is an individual house and was built where the village shop used to be. It was well planned and we have 3 double bedrooms plus ensuite and downstairs loo. The sitting room is at the back so nice and private. There are lovely countryside views to the front, village green and fields. The garden is not big but totally private and backs onto woodland.

I think we were very lucky to find it as we bought it off the net when we lived abroad.

Bigger than average1930s 3 bed detached with a large garden in a nice bit of the Black Country. Love the house and love the area ❤️

Defender90 · 11/01/2020 10:58

4 bed (now 3) semi detached ex local authority on a corner plot in a small ex mining village in SW Scotland.

Great idea for a thread!

PinkSquash · 11/01/2020 11:03

I live in a fairly typical Victorian 2 up 2 down terrace, on a cul de sac in a midsize town in the South West. 5 mins from the town centre, 10 mins to the station and 15 mins drive to both moor and sea.

Never thought I'd live in this town, but it is amazing and everything we need is in walking distance. I currently rent it, but would love to buy a house here in a few years.

francienolan · 11/01/2020 11:05

We currently live in a teeny ex council one bed flat (and that's a stretch--it's really a studio flat with a glass wall separating the bedroom) in a small city centre. Hate it but it's allowed us to save a lot of money for a deposit.

Currently buying a 3 bed Edwardian house at the end of a small terrace. Village location, garden, shed, patio. The bedrooms are two doubles and one single. Downstairs bathroom and smallish kitchen (but bigger than we have now), good sized separate living and dining rooms with their own fireplaces. Very excited to move there! The funny thing is we are getting so much more space and a better location but the mortgage payment will be less than our current rent.

Oldraver · 11/01/2020 11:07

1998 built chalet bungalow, so two bedrooms downstairs two in the loft. Not massive but not teeny either. Live that we all have our own bath/shower rooms, they are small but I don't have to share.

As it's 22 years old now it's starting to need some cosmetic work

Angliski · 11/01/2020 11:07

Four bed 1930’s semi in Brighton. Brilliant area with park and Waitrose round the corner. And close to the sea! We only moved a few months ago so quite a bit of work to do but solid and quiet and homely with nice features and three times the space of our 2 bed flat. Plus a garden!

LadyLovelyLockz · 11/01/2020 11:09

Coastal city. 2 bed staggered terrace house bought 10 years ago that we could just about afford. Biggish kitchen diner, living room, 2 double beds and a bathroom. Little front garden that has been gravelled, slight larger back garden.

I do love our little house but it is too small for us. I need a separate space to work from home and I would dearly love a spare room for people to come and stay, and I am desperate for another loo/bathroom. We could easily add a downstairs loo but it would force a redesign of the kitchen and we would still have a lack of space so I think we still need to move.

doadeer · 11/01/2020 11:10

Converted hotel in a london suburb. Two bed apartment with a balcony. We have two bathrooms with is hilarious given size of space. On a crazy note it's worth over double the price of my mums five bedroom family home with a huge garden.

ginghamstarfish · 11/01/2020 11:12

Victorian former gamekeeper's cottage, looks much bigger outside than in as the walls are about 3 feet thick! Also has a couple of acres which we really did not want, as it just means more work. Would have loved a modern house with a small or reasonable sized garden, but this was the only place we could find without neighbours .... (see all CF neighbour threads as for why)

DreamMeOffMyFeet · 11/01/2020 11:13

1970s bungalow. 3 bed, on a large plot.
Never fancied a bungalow but this particular one came with so much land and space I was swayed!
Been here 3 years and have renovated it, made it open plan, new kitchen, x2 new bathrooms, everything has been changed.
Although I like the inside space, I find it so ugly to look at from the outside (70s hearing aid beige colour brick)
Would like to get it rendered after we put new windows in.
The garden, garage and driveway are a mess and all need redoing too but not sure we'll ever have the money.
Getting it valued next weekend with a view to selling if we got the right money as would like to move to the next village along where DS goes to school. Would love to be able to walk to school!

madcatladyforever · 11/01/2020 11:13

I have moved from the seaside, love the sea but the town did not impress, to a beautiful rural village with everything in it, a renowned restaurant and bakery attached, co-op, post office, GP, vet, everything you would need if you didn't feel like going anywhere and a decent bus service.
Three bed house. I wanted an old house but the surveys always showed up huge expensive problems, so it's a lovely looking 80's cottage mad of local stone in a cat safe area. It overlooks beautiful ancient homes on all sides so I can live in a warm cosy home and admire all of the old ones from the window, no damp flagstones and single glazing for me.
My back has gone so I have gone from a £200 foot garden I loved but couldn't manage to a lovely large courtyard which I will plant up and make into a little oasis, I am very happy with it.

fruityconfusedhotdog · 11/01/2020 11:14

Mid-terrace in East London. It was built in 1925, in red - rather than London Stock - brick and is wider than the average Victorian/Edwardian terraces. We've done a lot to it, and now have a nice cosy living room, big kitchen/diner for having friends over and 5 bedrooms. We're not planning on moving until we're a lot older and need to downsize (currently have young children so that's a very long time away!)

Mumshappy · 11/01/2020 11:15

Large terraced house in NW. Three bedrooms, two large downstairs room, kitchen and bathroom. We have recently moved here and I love this house.

MadisonAvenue · 11/01/2020 11:23

We're in the Midlands and live in a 3 storey four bedroom new build semi, built in the style of the Victorian semis that I've always loved.

There's a recessed canopy porch, a stone surround bay window downstairs and sash windows on the other floors.
We've thought about converting the attic to make it 4 storey, the huge attic is unused as we decided not to use it for storage after the nightmare of emptying the one in our previous home when we moved, but our sons are now adults and aren't always around so it's often just the two of us and the dog so we don't need the extra space.

ThisIsAnon · 11/01/2020 11:26

Interesting thread!

I live in a two bed apartment in a converted former Victorian hospital in London. Really high ceilings and a tiny courtyard garden that I love. Lots of rumours that the building is haunted but I’ve been here 15 years and never seen or heard anything woo.

Happygirl79 · 11/01/2020 11:28

3 bedroom detached bungalow with detached garage and walled garden

catmoonstar · 11/01/2020 11:33

Love this thread. I live in a lovely little ground floor flat in a quiet cul-de-sac. There are four flats in the block. Two bedrooms, living room, kitchen, bathroom. Front and back garden. Back garden is lovely and quiet with a nice view of tall trees. Love my wee flat.

Crowlow · 11/01/2020 11:38

5 bed farmhouse in the Highlands with about 20 acres of croft land. In quite a hilly location so only good for sheep really. Cant see another house, just lots of hills and the sea!

Skolkolet · 11/01/2020 11:41

We have over 700 rooms but no Jacuzzi so thinking of getting an extension put in.

What kind of house do you live in?
Stopyourhavering64 · 11/01/2020 11:42

200 year old stone cottage in the Welsh countryside, near to beaches and national Park ( but thankfully not in it!) .. rooms have beams, thick walls and cottage has very narrow stairs...means furniture has to be dismantled before taking up into bedrooms ...lived here for 25 years, so lots of memories
Gorgeous views of the mountains from bedroom

In desperate need of new bathroom and kitchen!
but currently paying for dcs university accommodation
