Please help me name my nail business

I am currently in the process of qualifying to become a nail technician. My plan is to work from home alongside my part time job with a view to building up a client base so I would like to get things in order. I know it's not the most important aspect but it would be great to get the name sorted however my attempts are a bit lacklustre

Nails, followed by Nails by

So for example

Orchard Nails
Nails by Sue Smith

Clear and to the point or boring as sin?!

Posted too soon...

Polished, Nail Aesthetics by Sue (if sue is your name perhaps go for Susan or Suzanne on all promo material)
Glossy, Nail Aesthetics by Sue

If you live in fairly naice part of town and that’s going to be your clientele then that’s the type of name I would go for.

MikeUniformMike · 09/01/2020 19:28

@inspo, will you need to register your business or will you be working as a sole trader.
I would use something like Nails by Inspo on a website (Inspogram?) or business card, but trade as Inspo Insposurname.
If you decided to branch out to eyebrows or something you would still be using the sole trader thingy.

Someone else probably knows more about this. Your council or someone might have contacts?

Or go for something entirely unrelated like

Serendipity

I would avoid totally unrelated names. I have been trying to track down the maker of something DH bought me in plain packaging from a small business at a craft market recently and I've had no luck at all, if they had a more "obvious" name it would have helped. Similarly if someone googles or searches FB etc for "your town nails" you want your name to come up.

GoldfishGirl · 09/01/2020 19:49

What if you branch out from nails?

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/01/2020 20:06

Well that's covered by the suggestion of registering as Sue Smith or whatever and trading as Nails by Sue which can become Beauty by Sue.

Donkeysdragonbaby · 09/01/2020 21:16

Quirky names are definitely more for a shop/ salon place. I go to a salon called Nails and Beauty @ number. I think including your name is a good thing because I'm not a big chatter so although I talk to the person who does my nails I realise far too far into it that I've never actually asked their name, this has happened to me at 2 places and I tend to be a long term customer so asking 6mths in is too awkward! If I needed a new place and saw 'Sue Smith, Nails at 64' I'd like it. Or Nails by Sue or Sue's Nails @64. Or just Sue @64 and give a business card/ loyalty card with your name and services on. Everywhere round here does a loyalty card now, 10 stamps and you get £5, £10 off or whatever. The place I go to now did a 20% off during off peak times when they first opened, I got an infill for £15 so went back and now I know the work is good I pay the full price happily, tip, don't use the loyalty card and recommend them. I'm off on a tangent, sorry! I'm saying I vote for using your name over any gimmicky ideas.

furrytoebean · 10/01/2020 08:11

Thing is if you use your own name what happens if you ever get someone in to help?

Being able to step back from your business is so important.

SirChing · 10/01/2020 08:19

What about Polished by No. 64?

SirChing · 10/01/2020 08:21

Or Polished @ No. 64

ExpletiveDelighted · 10/01/2020 09:42

I don't think it's a problem using your own name and having someone else in to help, you just update SM/website and if people phone to book you just say "Sue's not available that day so it will be with Jane".

furrytoebean · 10/01/2020 10:12

No but if your business grows and you want to step back completely or you ever want to sell it it might be an issue then.
Its fine if you have no plans of expanding but it's a less scalable name.

viques · 11/01/2020 09:53

if your business grows and you want to step back

If that happens she could ask Vidal Sassoon(RIP) , John Frieda, Toni and Guy , Laura Ashley (RIP) for advice..........
