How do you store your jigsaw puzzles?

I've just realised how many jigsaws (adult) dd has, and want to find a good way to store them where she can still see which is which and get one out, so open fronted.

So how do you do it? On a tight budget too.

she has a bookcase full. About 6 per shelf, 6 shelves, so possibly as many as 40 (50???!!!!!) in our sitting room. She has some upstairs in her room (but not much space left in there) and I think half a dozen at Uni with her.

These are mainly 2000 and 3000 piece puzzles, with a few 1000 piece puzzles thrown in for good measure. LOTS. LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS.

I have seen her do a new 3000 piece puzzle in a couple of days. Not easy ones, honestly. She was the sort of child who saves up pocket money and then buys 3 new ones via Amazon when there's a sale on; she's been doing that since she was about 12. She does redo them. She does puzzles like I read books.

Is there a reason they can’t get go in your lOft? Presuming you have one of course!

I know this isn't really the point of this thread, and I don't wish to derail, but as I said upthread you have inspired me to start doing puzzles again. Trouble is I've been browsing amazon for days and I can't pick one!

Can someone pick one for me? Ideally a 500-1000 piece as I've not done one for years!

Our loft was converted into a granny flat years before we bought the house, so we don't have one, stuffingball.

What sort of things do you like? DD chooses hers because she likes the picture and it has lots of tiny details which are similarly coloured, so it's hard. Or there's lots of sky, or clouds, or tiny flowers ....

Where are you looking? DD browses Amazon, then goes to the maker's site and waits for a sale.

I'm not really sure, this is the issue. I know for sure I really like the Christmas ones, but it now being January seems a bit pointless. Although maybe not because I know for a fact trying to do one in December is never going to happen.

Other than that I've browsed amazon until I've run out of pages and I haven't found one that's really stuck out to me Confused I quite like the nostalgia ones, especially a little village scene with people. Haven't found many of them though

@Jux

Ah a Granny Flat full of puzzle shelves then 🤣

@stuffingball. What you need to do is going somewhere that has several charity shops! They’re great for puzzles, plenty of nostalgia!

A granny flat full of puzzles would be my idea of heaven. 😊

I think we should start a mumsnet jigsaw puzzle swap service so we can circulate good ones amongst ourselves.
We do about 50-70 puzzles a year, usually 1000 piece and we favour Gibson’s. I take a photo and then sell them on eBay afterwards or donate them to a charity shop.

We have a huge board with a picture of Paris on the back that we use for puzzles. It just (and I mean just!) fits the panoramic WHSmith Christmas edition puzzles on it. I have them all, bar 2012, which was a duplicate picture, and do them all every year. They are stacked beside my chest of drawers in my bedroom after previously being in the loft. Any others are under the bed or in the conservatory.

I recently bought the little trays from The Works for sorting pieces into and wish I had found them years ago! I am one of those sad sacks who likes to find the edge pieces every time and I don't care. I am currently finishing the last of my puzzles right now (I was a bit later starting them this time round) and after this one is finished, I have the Gibson's 12 days puzzles to do, which shouldn't take long.

@MrsFloraPaste - I would be up for that. We are always looking for new jigsaws for DS1. He's currently got a 1000 piece spitfire that we are just about to start.

My auntie used to paste her jigsaws onto cork boards. they would then be sealed and used as placemats when we went for dinner.

I gave my DSis and DSM each a 1000 piece puzzle made to order. I took two lovely landscape fotos from the area they live in taken by DBIL. They use those large A1 cardboard folders with sorting trays underneath for the unfinished ones.
Favourite puzzles are stored on shelves (sorry not helpful), the others get donated to a charity shop.

I second the 'nice boxes' idea with a copy of the finished picture inside and a small one on the box itself?

Off to google puzzlefestivals...
