How do you store your jigsaw puzzles?

I've just realised how many jigsaws (adult) dd has, and want to find a good way to store them where she can still see which is which and get one out, so open fronted.

So how do you do it? On a tight budget too.

We have ours in a chest, but rather than on top of each other they are end on, so you just lift the lid and you can see what's inside. And we have a puzzle folder and have found it brill, generally. And some little trays for sorting pieces. We love a jigsaw in our house. 😀

@latedecember there's a jigsaw festival????????!!!!!!!!!

Speak! Tell me about it! I shall pass this knowledge to dd who will squeak with excitement!

How can you mention a jigsaw festival and then not say any more about it GrinGrinGrin

Hello, Jux, this year's Ramsbottom Jigsaw Festival will be held at St Paul's Church, Bridge Street, Ramsbottom, BL0 9BP 9th to 12th September 2020.
It began as a collaboration between 2 churches to raise funds for the upkeep of the buildings.
There is a constantly changing display as we replace each jigsaw as it is sold.
Our most popular sizes are 500 or 1000 piece puzzles but we do have other sizes donated too. The pictures are anything and everything, it all depends on what is made for us. Steam train scenes are popular with the steam train buffs, Thomas Kinkade and Wasgij are perennially popular. Nostalgia themes do well too.
Even more importantly it's become a fantastic community event, bringing lots of people together. We have an army of puzzlers who assemble puzzles for us and many of them say that it has given them something good to be part of. Gibson's have sponsored us for the last few years as a recogntion of the contribution the festival has made to combatting loneliness as this is one of their interests.
There is a Facebook page where your daughter can see lots of photos and information. I'm sure if she googles there will be other festivals around the UK if we are too far away for her, but we always love to welcome people from far and wide. 😊

Is that the Ramsbottom near Manchester?

Chocolatemice · 11/01/2020 16:36

I pile mine up on the wardrobe and in the wardrobe. I need to remember to do one tonight. With the card base, is it not wobbly?

user1493494961 · 11/01/2020 16:41

We had a spare frameless photo frame so use the back of that for our jigsaw board. It can be lifted on and off a table or put under a sofa without disturbing the jigsaw. We've got a jigsaw roll put couldn't get on with it.

gamerchick · 11/01/2020 16:46

I clag them to a picture frame back, cover and hang on the wall.

latedecember1963 · 11/01/2020 16:58

Yes, Chocolatemice, we are about 15 miles north of Manchester.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 11/01/2020 20:18

I've used one of the felt rolls and it worked really well. This thread has made me want to start doing jigsaws again! I don't know if she'd think it was the same but you can do jigsaws on a tablet - I used to do them when I had an operation and was bed bound. Might have to have another go at them as well.

LittleLongDog · 12/01/2020 02:03

I did a massively complicated one recently and I am so tempted to store the edges in a bag since it took me days to find them all

I do this! Love a jigsaw. Not so much the hunt for the edge pieces though.

Have you tried Instagram or Pinterest for storage ideas @Jux ? There might be a pretty/satisfying storage solution in there.

Jux · 12/01/2020 11:00

Oh good idea, LittleLongDog, I shall do that!

As for jigsaw festivals, dd is quite excited at the prospect but we are nowhere near Ramsbottom. We shall see Grin

Getting the edge pieces is part of the fun. I would feel like I have cheated if I separate them.

Jux · 12/01/2020 23:31

Had a look at pinterest, not found anything so far. Sad

I'm with the 'find the edge pieces is part of the fun' people; my mum did used to keep them in a separate bag, though.

@Jux

Google - there are loads around the UK. Have a look at the one in March in Newmarket! They vary from asking for boxed jigsaws to live competitions!

Would a cupboard appease DH?

Mine get put in the lift until I’ve done them, then donated to a charity shop or whatever. I never do them twice. I’d rather do a new one. I might do them again if I had the space to store them for years, but I don’t.

Miljea · 13/01/2020 00:11

I store mine at a charity shop. 😊

Marshmallow91 · 13/01/2020 05:21

Badly.

elonmusk · 13/01/2020 05:51

I store my DS's in freezer bags and cut the picture off the box. I figured that takes up less space.

Jux · 13/01/2020 12:56

Incrediblysad I had this amazing vision of your lift full of jigsaws which you summon whenever you've finished one and need another. Your house is, of course, built around this lift so that no matter which room or which floor you are in, you will never be far from the next jigsaw.....

MrsCherry · 13/01/2020 13:15

Would they fit in an IKEA STUK fabric hanger in a wardrobe?

IncrediblySadToo · 13/01/2020 16:06

@Jux

Bloody phone 🙄

But yes, a lift would be amazing! Glass one full of puzzles (all 4 sides would need to be openable!)

...OTOH it wouldn’t fit all the crap that’s in the loft 🤣

A lift to the loft... then you’d be onto something.

Jux · 14/01/2020 18:56

😁

MrsCherrh, off to look at STUK thing now

OP posts:
Jux · 14/01/2020 18:59

Yes they would fit in about 20 of those! I am making progress. We could put up a few hrs in her room and hang those from them. That could work!!!

OP posts:
babysharktooth · 14/01/2020 19:04

We use the heavy duty zip lock bags (used in primary schools a lot) then cut the picture from the front of the box. Means they can live in a storage cube.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 14/01/2020 19:05

Our coffee table in the living room is a big chest and they're all in there.

DH bought me a huge 3000 piece one for xmas that i've just started. I fear it might take some time!

IncrediblySadToo · 14/01/2020 20:38

@Jux. I think you’ll find that those STUK things will be a bit too narrow & shallow for many puzzles. Unfortunately.

How many puzzles does she have?
