These are lovely!
I would say, hearing the rain on the tent when I'm camping.
Reading a new book cover to cover in one long sitting (don't get to do that much these days).
When one of the kids I volunteer with comes up to say thank you because they have really enjoyed it

UnicornPug · 08/01/2020 11:06

I like seeing monkey puzzle trees. They just make me smile.

Etihad · 08/01/2020 11:12

An IKEA advert in a bus shelter I pass several times a day. It says ‘And they said your home would never be merry’ - part of their rather daft latest campaign.

After waiting for an incredibly long time for DD to come along, and having a gorgeous Christmas with her, this advert makes me smile every single time I see it.

And monkey puzzle trees too - they are fab!

ohohohmerrychristmas · 08/01/2020 11:44

I love monkey puzzle trees as they remind me of my wee great granny - when my grandmother was a child she asked her mum why they were called monkey puzzles , ‘I suppose because they were a puzzle to the monkeys.’

For some reason every time anyone sees one we always point it out and comment, ‘there’s another puzzle for the monkeys’ ... It’s one of the clearest memory I have of great granny to be honest - she passed away with vascular dementia when I was 12 .

ohohohmerrychristmas · 08/01/2020 11:47

We also had a thing as children where we shouted something for each field we passed (in rural scotland, this meant shouting constantly!) ... so hay was ‘sausage rolls’, sheep were ‘laaaamb chips’ or ‘mint sauce’, pigs were ‘bacon’ ... can’t remember horses/donkeys/birds except that turkeys were ‘gobble gobble’ .

Even as an adult in my late twenties if I see hay in the fields I’m tempted to shout sausage rolls !

Having time to sit and read a book, with nothing else I "should" be doing.

Drinking tea at exactly the right temperature.

That feeling of exhaustion after a hard workout and knowing I made my body achieve it.

When you are absolutely dogtired (and/or severely jetlagged) and crawl into bed and your head softly sinks into the pillow and you know you can sleeeeeep.

When you approach a set of traffic lights exactly as they change and you can glide straight through.

vampirethriller · 08/01/2020 12:03

The sound ice cubes make when you pour the drink on them
When a few bubbles fly out of the washing up liquid bottle as you pick it up
Sunday afternoons because I save the weeks EastEnders to watch as if it's the old omnibus!

Bree88 · 08/01/2020 12:17

Thanks ladies..These list are lovely..Keep them coming!..Glad am not the only one who finds joy in the littlest of things.Smile

Although I never heard of Monkey puzzle tree before.Had to google that one.Grin.Not sure I have seen it anywhere here in south london.

Reading a good book cover to cover without distraction..I sure can identify with that too.Sadly I haven't done it in ages since becoming a Mom

A decent cup of tea (the water is hit or miss here)
Remembering a TV series is on that evening e.g. tonight Eat Well for Less
My children's laughter
Rain and thunder when I'm snuggled inside
The smell of toast
When both my children nap at the same time!

missmouse101 · 08/01/2020 12:51

Being completely alone in my house for as long as I want. (Fantasy though....Sad)

HebeMumsnet · 08/01/2020 12:59

New packets of anything. Cereal, moisturiser, jam.... I just like being the first one in!

mygrandchildrenrock · 08/01/2020 13:02

vampirethriller I'm exactly the same with the bubbles out of the washing up bottle. Our dishwasher broke a few months ago and every day it makes me smile when the bubbles come out!

Kalim8 · 08/01/2020 13:05

Being walked across by a cat.

Silhouettes of trees, especially if there are hills behind them at dawn or sunset.

XJerseyGirlX · 08/01/2020 13:11

When all the bills have gone out and theres more than £1 still left in my account (feel like ive successfully won the month) lol

When my dog moves from where he is sleeping just to come and sit by me.

A cold Cadbury's creme egg (what im eating now)

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/01/2020 13:17

Being walked across by a cat.

One of my cats sleeps with me and every night she shuffles round and round to find just the right spot, then lets out a long, contented purr-sigh and falls asleep. It warms my cockles to know she is so relaxed and happy.

jackparlabane · 08/01/2020 13:21

When you think you've eaten all your lunch or cake, look down and there's some left!

Maps. Just making sense of the world - they're brilliant.

My kids giggling like mad at something they've read.

My new bird feeder. I've just seen a blue tit in my garden for the first time!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 08/01/2020 13:34

I've just seen a blue tit in my garden for the first time!

Cold out, is it?

sorrynotsorry Grin

anon2000000000 · 08/01/2020 13:49

I like it when I go into the toilet and someone's replaced the toilet roll AND the empty roll in the recycle bin.

It rarely happens by anyone in the house but me but it makes my day.

I also love when my kids laugh.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 08/01/2020 13:57

Being the first person to walk on snow.

Tea in my favourite mug, piping hot, before anyone else is awake.

Sitting the in conservatory when it is raining.

Books with very short chapters so I can read just one more.

Rainbows.

Seeing wildlife when out for a walk.

Clean sheets on the bed.

Wearing my favourite perfume at bed time.

Arranging felt tips or pencils in colour order.

Toast, butter and jam.

AnnoyingSatsumaInMyStocking · 08/01/2020 13:59

Getting the car parked neatly in one go, no manoeuvring back and forth.

Custard tarts on the yellow sticker shelf.

Cold cold drink of water.

Aderyn19 · 08/01/2020 14:02

I proper laughed at 'blue tit' am such a child. So that made me happy

stophuggingme · 08/01/2020 14:04

Stroking my dogs ears they are so silky it’s therapeutic
A hot cloth face wash before a bath
Ready salted crisps sandwich made with Hovis and salted butter
Sporner corner when I can’t sleep and am feeling a bit worried it cracks me up and distracts me
Standing by my children’s doors and hearing them sleep that gorgeous snuggle young child sleep

The birds at my bird feeder
Hoovering my new run so the shaggy pile is all the same angle

Lighting some candles and watching real housewives on tv with a gin and tonic

Not unusual at all really

dontmentionbookclub · 08/01/2020 14:06

@Etihad yes I have a thing for monkey puzzle trees as well - love them! They are sort of the jokey ones of the tree world, I always feel.

Also love smiley dogs, velvet, the smell of creosote and random inane chats with people in shopping queues (yes, we are talking boring nonsense, but we never have to see each other again so it doesn't matter!) I'm also always excited if I see an old wall or old door where all the different layers of paint are showing through from years ago. Better still, wallpaper from years ago - that's my favourite.
