How often do you cringe at past actions?

Just a light hearted musing really. Do you ever randomly cringe at things you've done in the past and how often would you do that? I think either I've done too many cringeworthy things or they pop into my mind too often. 😬.

tmh88 · 07/01/2020 20:30

ifeelyoum · 07/01/2020 20:30

Yes all the time! Even from years ago

LittleBing · 07/01/2020 20:30

YES

whiskersonkittenss · 07/01/2020 20:31

@Royallyscrewed Grin laughing my head off

Moralsandcorals · 07/01/2020 20:33

All the time! Blush especially today Grin

I watched a thing on Netflix that said humiliation is one of the most intense feelings we have - that's why it's so horrible.

Spied · 07/01/2020 20:38

Daily. Meaning a say/do something daily that's cringe.
Today's for example.
"Why do gift sets always have bloody hand and foot lotions. Noone uses them.Tat!!!"
To my friend who bought me a posh hand-care kit and a sock and foot cream set for Xmas Blush

GreekOddess · 07/01/2020 20:43

Every minute of the day!

Janaih · 07/01/2020 20:48

20 year old me was on maternity ward chatting one of the other new mothers who mentioned that she was 41. I replied "WOW 41, WELL DONE YOU!".
What makes it even more cringe is that I didnt realise what a dick thing this was to say until about 5 years later, and it hit me at some ungodly hour that the strange look on her face was disdain.

DelurkingAJ · 07/01/2020 21:00

Yes. All the time. Curl up and die inside frequently. Good news is that the ones from primary school age no longer make me feel like that so I guess after about 30 years it stops. Oh dear.

lljkk · 07/01/2020 21:03

another one who would like a brain wipe!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 07/01/2020 21:09

All the time. I frequently find myself saying 'oh God I'm so sorry' to no one for things I did 30 years ago.

AwkwardSquad · 07/01/2020 21:14

This says it all...

Bluerussian · 07/01/2020 21:15

I cringe at past deeds frequently, especially when I'm on my own which is, frequently.

neverornow · 07/01/2020 21:24

I would say several times per week. They usually come back to me when I'm driving and I'll actually say out loud "oh god, please stop!!"

I have many from my youth which I am gradually getting over but accidentally liking a pic about 7 years on the FB page of someone I was stalking just haunts me!! I barely know her but know her now DH and was kinda stalking him via her and just UH!! WHY!!!

raskolnikova · 07/01/2020 21:35

I'm glad I'm not the only one in a perpetual state of cringe. The only thing that makes me feel better is telling myself that the other people involved probably don't even remember me now (doesn't work for more recent incidents).

Weffiepops · 08/01/2020 00:10

Hardly ever, I'm really surprised how much others do cringe

Biscuitsandteaplease · 08/01/2020 10:00

All the time - usually I'm in the shower in the morning and bam some hideous memory of something I've said/done will hit me

spiderlight · 08/01/2020 10:16

@SpeedofaSloth I love the term 'crimson memories'! Going to adopt that from now on.

Triglesoffy · 08/01/2020 10:23

So how do we stop this mindset? It isn’t healthy.

PD I cringe all the time at things I’ve done or not done in the past.

Laughterisbest · 08/01/2020 12:17

Often, especially when driving or walking the dog. Awful or tactless things I've said mainly, and a couple where other people embarrassed me in front of others.

From many years ago too. It never seems to go away.

bringincrazyback · 08/01/2020 12:20

Every single day, and after most social interactions. But then I suffer from anxiety so maybe it's only to be expected.

Kittykat93 · 08/01/2020 13:41

I literally accidently say out loud oh my god usually when I'm cringing at something. Prompting the people im with to ask what's wrong and I then have to make up some reason as don't want to admit what it's really about! Awful. Mostly drunken memories.

lowwintersun · 08/01/2020 18:20

Well. I think it's a thinking style rooted in anxiety. We are programmed to try and maintain our social grouping for safety. Humiliation risks the social status. First thing is maybe to call them crimson memories (great name) and notice "oh there's a crimson memory" as if it's a bus. Next step would probably be to find some comforting dialogue to tell yourself when it arises e.g just a crimson memory. Doesn't make it a fact, or relevant. I'll definitely take comfort in the fact I'm not the only bampot torturing myself 😄😊.

On a daily, if not hourly, basis!
