Do you like January?

I feel a nice clean feeling in January- Christmas cleared away and everything sparse and hopeful for the year to come- are you January lovers or haters?

No, hate it. I actually feel quite low and sad. December was such a good month, lots on, lots to look forward to. I feel deflated.

Think I need to book a holiday Grin

patchworkelephant123 · 07/01/2020 13:59

Nope. Makes me anxious for all the bad things that might happen over the next 12 months

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 07/01/2020 14:02

Oh, I misread the title. I thought it said 'dry January', so my post is in response to that and it doesnt make sense now!

crochetmonkey74 · 07/01/2020 14:06

a few of you have said what I like about it- the sense of shops being quieter, and a fresh start with new diary etc- I also normally read a lot in January (always my New Years resolution as it falls off through the year) so it always feels like a month of early nights, and rest after the mad Christmas month

I really do like it. Christmas is over, it's a new year and new start and all that, back to normal, back to healthy diet, its DPs birthday on 25th and most of all, Christmas is over!

beachcomber70 · 07/01/2020 14:21

I like January. The pressure of Christmas is over, life is more peaceful, the nights are only going to get lighter, spring is nearer, no council tax to pay until the end of March. Tv programmes seem to be looking up with fresh series starting.

I enjoy the food and drink presents, and treat myself to new books if I have gift tokens. I start to plan the garden, walks and days out when spring days come. The snowdrops, cyclamen, hellebores are out.

In February the daffodils and crocus are out and the year is full of promise. In the meantime I love snuggling inside with a book, tv or puzzles. Outside it's good to wrap up against the cold and have a long walk if the sun appears. Can't say I have seen much sunshine this winter so far though. It's been wet, grey and dreary.

2beautifulbabs · 07/01/2020 15:16

Not overly fond of January despite it being my birthday in January it's just the gloomy long dark winters days teamed with rain it's not the best of months for moods and February isn't much better I love March that's a nice feeling when your getting into spring and then summer ahead Autumn even

Vintagevixen · 07/01/2020 16:28

Love it, it's my favourite month. I also like Febuary a lot.

I find it calm, quiet and restorative. I eat better, loads of homemade winter food like stews, soups etc.

Evenings and mornings are dark which I like. I love the cold. I sleep so much better wrapped up in my duvet.

I tolerate summer months because I know some people love them and we all need our bit of like/dislike in regards to weather, light etc. But for me June, July and August are my least favourite months.

Sally99 · 07/01/2020 16:32

Love January and February. Christmas is over and the days are (hopefully) cold and frosty so it's lovely to curl up in front of a roaring fire.

IHaveBrilloHair · 07/01/2020 16:34

I don't love it, but at least the nights are slowly getting longer.

Oblomov20 · 07/01/2020 16:34

No.
I find it miserable. Generally. Dark, cold and horrible. Worse still my birthday is at the end and no one ever wants to do anything until payday.

yellowallpaper · 07/01/2020 16:38

I'm ok in January as the winter and the cold weather is novel, but come February and I'm am longing for some daffodils to come through and end the long cold winter dreariness

happypotamus · 07/01/2020 17:12

No more or less than other months. It's still cold and dark out which I don't really like and we don't have a tree with shiny lights anymore to brighten it up. It's still winter and I work in a hospital so winter is crazy busy. But we are over the stress of getting ready for Christmas which is good.

Likethebattle · 07/01/2020 17:38

It’s utter shit. I live in Scotland so it’s just endless darkness and rain...it also lasts about 63 weeks! All the Christmas lights are gone and now it’s just darkness until mid February up here! I go to work in the dark, I come home in the dark. I just want to eat crap comfort food. I also have no motivation to exercise.

Money isn’t an issue as I budget December as if it’s a normal month and then don’t touch my wage until my normal payday but it’s still a 5 week month!

needanewnamechange · 07/01/2020 17:52

Yeah I like the fact it's not as chaotic.
It's dark I can get home get my pjs on and relax .
The run up to Christmas is so busy it's nice to have a few quiet weeks .
I never make New Years resolutions to exercise more in January I wait till the evenings get lighter .
I think that's why people hate January so much all this going to gym and eating healthy then give up by February.

Topsy44 · 07/01/2020 18:01

I love January. I used to hate it when I was younger but now late forties it feels good that there's no pressure to go out and do things. It's a time to rest and recharge. I actually like the dark evenings, just feels nice coming home, having some comfort food, getting cozy, watching tv. I always feel a sense of guilt in the summer that I should be outside doing things every minute but in the winter that feeling is gone.

Like a pp, my resolutions start in the spring. The thought of forcing myself to do exercise when it's dark and cold is madness to me!

shinynewapple2020 · 07/01/2020 19:57

I don't like the dark and cold and I spend the winter worrying that heavy snow will mean I can't get to work. We sometimes go away to get a bit of sun over Christmas period and have decided that next year we'll do it at the end of January so something to look forward to.,

RedSheep73 · 07/01/2020 20:05

Hate hate hate it. It's dark and cold, Christmas is over and the only thing to look forward to is spring and that's ages away.

aSofaNearYou · 07/01/2020 20:05

Easily the worst month of the year in my opinion - the excitement of Christmas is over and you have no plans and nobody has any money to do anything, but without the pros of longer days and the weather starting to improve that you get in February onwards.

I've been fighting the blues since it started.

Bickles · 07/01/2020 20:13

Hate winter but cope with November and December because I love Christmas.
January and February are horrible, cold, dark, rainy and gloomy.
Roll on Easter!

Butchyrestingface · 07/01/2020 20:15

Yes, there is nothing quite like the west coast of Scotland in early January.

Nononononono33 · 07/01/2020 20:18

I wouldn’t say I love January but I agree that every month has its place. I’m also enjoying the quieter shops and less frantic pace of everything, and watching for it getting that bit lighter each evening. It won’t be long until spring so it’s nice to look forward to that.

silverlamplight · 07/01/2020 20:25

I quite like it. Much, much better than Decmeber which has to be the worst month of the year.
There is a lovely calmness to january after the chaos and constant business and expectation of December. I like the feeling of a nice clean tidy house once all the decs go away. Love getting back into proper routines. There are the very first early signs of SPring on the way - those few extra monutes daylight in an evening each week, snowdrop bulbs putting up shoots etc...all feels very hopeful and optomisitc.

Chosennone · 07/01/2020 20:26

I'm trying to be positive. I was bought uo with a Mum that always talked about January blues etc and it made me feel the same. I am a real xmas fan so do get Post Xnas blues. But it is more relaxed. I don't do dry January or go extremely healthy as it makes it miserable. Cosy, relaxing weekends and holiday/event planning help. Getting out with the dog in the daylight when possible improves mood.

sakura06 · 07/01/2020 20:28

Least favourite month! Ugh. Wake me up in Spring.
