Urgent, should I wear makeup for job interview today?

Have an 'informal' interview today at 11am, but still feel I should make an effort to look polished.

I'm reasonably good at putting makeup on and it does make me look better rather than like a clown but I absolutely loathe wearing it as it makes me very uncomfortable.

So do I grin and bear it, look a bit better but feel like clawing my face off by 10am, or do I just put a bit of moisturiser on, accept my uneven and slightly pock marked complexion but not be distracted by the gunk on my face?

Bottom line is do you FEEL better with or without it?

nocluewhattodoo · 06/01/2020 07:48

I also loathe makeup, but I usually put on a bit of mascara if I feel the need to look a bit more 'done'. I'm a total scruff though Grin thankfully I have good skin so get away with it

IsolaPribby · 06/01/2020 07:49

You need to feel comfortable and confident, so do whatever makes you feel that way. Is there a middle ground between nothing and 'all that gunk'? Perhaps some powder and a bit of lippy? Good luck!

Maybe wear less? I wear mascara and a tiny blob of light foundation just to even my skin tone. I can't feel it on.

Gibbstheory · 06/01/2020 07:51

I recently had an informal interview and would suggest that you do what you'd feel most comfortable with. If thats just wearing some moisturiser and a little bit of mascara then that's what I would do. There's nothing worse than having an interview and being uncomfortable by something you don't have to wear.

I'm wishing you luck for today Smile

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 06/01/2020 07:52

I would. Even if you don’t wear it every day you will look like you’ve made an effort to look your best.

Geneshish · 06/01/2020 07:55

If you're not going to wear it every day at the job then dont bother at the interview.

However if you feel like you want to claw the gunk off your face then I suggest you are wearing far too much! Try something like bare minerals powder foundation.

ememem84 · 06/01/2020 07:55

If you don’t wear it al the time and don’t feel comfortable and confident in yourself when wearing it then don’t. Do what’s best for you.

If I didn’t wear it a lot I’d be worried about it smudging or something and making me look a bit rubbish.

pickingdaisies · 06/01/2020 07:57

Tinted moisturiser, mascara, tinted lip balm is all I can stand. Sometimes just the tinted moisturiser, if I feel I need 'something'.

Dinosauraddict · 06/01/2020 08:00

I never wear make up, I've never made an exception to that for an interview. As long as you dress smartly, no-one will care!

Readytogogogo · 06/01/2020 08:02

You need to present yourself in the way that makes you feel at your most confident. If that's no make up then that's absolutely fine.

Keepmewarm · 06/01/2020 08:05

Be you. If that means not wearing makeup, don’t wear makeup!

Keepmewarm · 06/01/2020 08:05

Forgot to say.... good luck!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 06/01/2020 08:07

Treat an informal interview in the same way as formal in terms of prep but do whatever makes you comfortable.

Your ability to do the job isn't reflected in your ability to do make up (unless you're a MUA or something then that's a bit different Grin).

Good luck x

alliejay81 · 06/01/2020 08:08

No I wouldn't if it makes you uncomfortable. I've interviewed lots of candidates and wouldn't pass judgement on a lack of make up (let's face most men don't wear it). I probably wouldn't even notice - I'd be more likely to notice if you were wearing a lot of make up tbh.

Good luck!

Schmoozer · 06/01/2020 08:10

Yes
A bit
Good
Luck !!!

Pumpkintopf · 06/01/2020 08:11

Whatever makes you feel comfortable and able to focus on the interview.

Good luck!!

mamma536 · 06/01/2020 08:13

Depends - if it's customer facing and you
will be expected to wear it then yes. If it's an academic post or tech company and no one will care then just be comfortable with yourself.

CountFosco · 06/01/2020 08:18

If you don't want to wear makeup don't feel like you have to. Polish your shoes and iron your clothes though.

yearinyearout · 06/01/2020 08:20

You don't need to plaster on full slap if you're not comfortable with it. I hate putting anything on my skin other than moisturiser but I still wear some make up, just bit of eyeshadow/mascara. If your make up makes you feel uncomfortable maybe you're just using the wrong things? Try something lighter.

Devereux1 · 06/01/2020 08:23

Don't wear it. You feel more comfortable without it and people don't look more polished with it (where did that idea ever come from?).

If some people expect this, that's tragic and has taken us back about 50 years!

ClientListQueen · 06/01/2020 08:29

I think the more polished thing depends on your skin. Without a little foundation my skin is blotchy and I have acne. Hence makeup makes me look more "polished"
But then I look like a blotchy red mole rat without any so... Grin

partysong · 06/01/2020 08:30

I Interview people a lot, it genuinely wouldn't cross my mind to notice if someone had no make up on. If they had LOADS on that might matter, but none isn't an issue at all

(And my feminist head can't help but say .. is this something men have to flaming worry about?! Do what feels comfortable to you)

starfishmummy · 06/01/2020 08:41

Would you be wearing make up to do the job? If so then I would at even an "informal" interview, just as I would wear reasonably business type clothing - OK not the suit but a work appropriate dress or bkouse and skirt/trousers.
