Can someone recommend a nice grey paint for my lounge ....

... I’m over whelmed by the choice. We will have white furniture and fireplace, dark brown leather sofas. I don’t want the grey too dark but not too light.

I thought we’d have to replace sofas as didn’t think dark brown would work but I’ve seen lovely photos online.

Get a tester pot of Dulux Goose Down. I've got that in my bedroom and it hasn't got that blueish hue you get with some greys.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/01/2020 14:17

Thanks love the look of that

Cornforth white by farrow and ball is a nice neutral grey (I don't buy their paint I get it colour matched my decorating centre online, the paint is excellent.). As is Manor House grey.

Dulux polished pebble/goose down are both lovely.

That's weird. We have Goose Down in one of our rooms and definately think it's blue.

I guess it's just one of those 'different house, different lighting, different colour' things?

ClientListQueen · 05/01/2020 14:31

I have three different greys in my house Grin can post pics if you'd like?

Polished pebble - light, but definite blue tones
Chic shadow - darker, I really like this
Goosedown- medium grey, my favourite

FacesLookUgly · 05/01/2020 14:32

F&B Purbeck Stone is lovely but may be too light for you?

I've got Laura Ashley dove grey and it's beautiful.

ClientListQueen · 05/01/2020 14:36

Most accurate pics I can find
In order - polished pebble, goosedown, chic shadow

Much lighter, but dulux steel 3. I have in a couple of places. It's a pure grey. It's been so popular its appearing in the houses of several friends and relatives!
There are different steel shades. If you ask the mixing counter for the steel codes you will be able to identify them on the them tester strips. If you have a professional paint shop nearby, they will undoubtedly have a test chart of the colour to show you to hand.
They can also mix Farrow and Ball colours, exactly in dulux paint which are considerably cheaper with good quality.(very useful if you have a large area, or need multiple coats)

We have Dulux Perfectly Taupe in the dining room and Polished Pebble in a bathroom. Like both very much.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/01/2020 17:09

Ooh thanks all

i recommend no grey paint for your lounge it's depressing and awful and is now out of fashion.

NightsOfCabiria · 05/01/2020 17:18

Dulux Goose Down is lilac mostly. It really depends on the aspect of your room. Which way does it face? Goose Down is lilac West facing, blue north facing and steel south & east facing.

F&B Cornforth white is very pale, not like your photo. Your photo looks like F&B Elephant’s Breath or Dulux Polished Pebble but again, it all depends on your room’s aspect. Grey is a hard colour to predict (as proven by my collection of dozens of sample pots).

BalloonSlayer · 05/01/2020 17:19

Well it isn't out of fashion madcatlady because everywhere is still selling grey stuff. Go into a sofa shop and just about every one on display is grey,

Mookie81 · 05/01/2020 17:20

Rude madcat.

BalloonSlayer · 05/01/2020 17:22

When I met DH his living room was painted grey (by the people before him, he'd done nothing) and was extremely dull and cold looking (quite a dark house). When we stripped it and I was carrying some of the paper outside I was astonished to see that it was actually lilac. It's amazing the difference the light your house received makes.

ClientListQueen · 05/01/2020 17:22

I find the right grey calming, not cold. But I think like any colour it depends on light, the room itself, furnishings...

weaselwords · 05/01/2020 17:24

My mum has just had her lounge done in Chic shadow and it’s very nice.

orangina · 05/01/2020 17:25

Little Greene have 3 shades of French Grey, depending on natural light levels. They are lovely, and I have got FG 1 and FG 2 in various areas at home. Both lovely, quite warm despite being grey.....

orangina · 05/01/2020 17:26

But ultimately you need to do some samples. On the website, the LG FG looks quite 'beige', but it doesn't at all on the wall...

BigSandyBalls2015 · 05/01/2020 17:39

Mad cat - I’m not really interested in whether it’s fashionable or old hat ... I like it!
