State pension age.

I'm 29 now, so it will probably be about 80 by that time.

DelurkingAJ · 03/01/2020 17:28

62, private pension. Matching DH’s date (he’ll be 60 and can claim his then) as I have no wish to Potter for two years. We’ve raised our contributions with this as the aim.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2020 17:30

I am aiming to be mortgage free by 50 and then I will plow most of my salary into my pension after that.

I'm 41 and fully expect to be working for another 30-35 years.

MissCherryCakeyBun · 03/01/2020 17:31

My pension age is 67....15 years to go however as we are now mortgage free we are hoping to be both be able to go part time in the next 7/8 years.

The key for us was mortgage free especially as we are both divorced and have young adult kids. I want to be able to enjoy my later life not been working 40hrs a week

AlunWynsKnee · 03/01/2020 17:32

I will probably go early on ill health grounds as I have a progressive disease. I don't know when though as there is no way of knowing how the progression will go.

BeyondMyWits · 03/01/2020 17:32

Age of retirement depends on what you mean by retire... I'm 55 and have taken early retirement from my "career", but work 12 hours a week in a shop to top up the reduced pension to livable money. Actual retirement for state pension 67.

I think the term "retirement" will become more flexible , including reducing hours, taking less physical work etc.

CheeseNOnionPasty · 03/01/2020 17:33

My pension age is 67, but health allowing I’ll probably go on for a few more years of anyone will have me!

I’d be bored shitless at home unless I was very wealthy - which I’m not and don’t think I’ll ever be - and if I’m going to end up volunteering to ‘keep myself busy’ I’d rather be paid for it.

CheeseNOnionPasty · 03/01/2020 17:33

if anyone will have me

helpfulperson · 03/01/2020 17:35
  1. I've been financially planning for this since the day I started my first job! My state pension will be 67.
BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/01/2020 17:36

I'm mid 30s. I expect to be able to go in my early 60s but I suspect I will keep on till I'm 70 (which is probably what state pension age will be put to in a few years).

AuntieMarys · 03/01/2020 17:37

I retired at 58. Dh is still working.

RJnomore1 · 03/01/2020 17:37

Planning to go part time at around 60-62 - if I want to.

Hopefully fully retiring not until much later. My 101 year old nana still did a few shifts as a barmaid into her 80s. I

VivaLeBeaver · 03/01/2020 17:39

Hopefully 60.

I get one small private pension at 55, another Private pension at 65yo and then another Private pension at state pension age. My second pension I can take early at 60yo (it’ll reduce a bit) so am planning to do that.

Rafflesway · 03/01/2020 17:40

My state pension age is 66 but was able to take early retirement at 59 due to being mortgage free, having 2 pretty good private pensions I was able to access at 60, us both having good, long standing investments - which are still growing and having a generous, financially comfortable DH 😂

trilbydoll · 03/01/2020 17:40

I'm mid 30s. We are both paying into pensions but tbh with a mortgage and two DC who might want to go university my financial planning doesn't go as far into the future as retirement. We should come up with a plan, I only work part time at the moment so we should consider if we value the time more or if we would rather have more money!

MissCalamity · 03/01/2020 17:41

Between 60 - 65 hopefully.
DP is 11 years older than me & our mortgage will be paid off in 8 1/2 years when he's 60, so I can plough quite a lot into my pension from being mortgage free at 49. 🤞🏼

Likethebattle · 03/01/2020 17:42

I can probably retire just after my wake!

LaurieFairyCake · 03/01/2020 17:43

62

Will be mortgage free by 55 (fingers crossed)

PaperbackBlighter · 03/01/2020 17:43

All going to plan, I’ll retire at 50.

mintbiscuit · 03/01/2020 17:49

Agree with Beyond, the definition of retirement is going to change over the next decade or so.

I can’t access my pension until 57, but I would like to be winding down hours from full time, possibly moving to less stressful job from 50 onwards.

DH and I have prioritised pension saving - we’re looking forward to the next stage!

fastliving · 03/01/2020 17:49

I've just extended my mortgage to finish paying off when I am 65 (gulp).
But I like working, physically easy work & have no private pension and no significant other to go travelling with (I have travelled a lot anyway) so it is what it is.
I'm really hoping I have good health and grandchildren who live close by, these would be the things that will really make a difference to how good my third age is.

qwert1 · 03/01/2020 17:55

67 at very earliest. Cannot save a bean on current salary. Haven't been able to save since 2013. Will work till i drop I reckon. Hey ho!

Oblomov20 · 03/01/2020 17:55

I fear 75?

Skatesbythesea · 03/01/2020 18:07

I think part time working will go up. I've always said it's not retirement, it's reinvention!
