16 month old baby soaking through nappies

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 09:11

So my 16 month old is soaking through her nappies during naps and overnight. When I say soaking I mean sopping. This morning for example she woke up and the whole of the front of her sleep suit was soaked, including legs and sleeves!

Changing size hasn't made a difference, she needs changing every couple of hours during the day because they are so full. I don't think the nappies can cope with the amount of wee! She does drink a lot I gave to admit!

What weight is your dd and what brand and size of nappies do you use?

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 09:16

She is just under 8kg and I was using sainsbury's and have moved to Pampers. Haven't used Pampers overnight yet.

Pampers will probably work, they did for us.

I only ever used pampers at night with mine for this reason.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:17

Thank you, fingers crossed they work tonight and there after🤞

What size is she currently in? Before we potty trained DS he was in a 5+ during the day and an 8 at night (no daytime naps Hmm!) we had to keep going up in sizes to stop the leaking.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:20

Size 3. I tried size 4 but they are too loose round the waist and size 5 would just fall off!

We mainly used aldi's nappies but had to change brands and sizes every now and then when he soaked through at night. It was usually just a case of experimenting until we found something that held it

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:22

She just wees an awful lot, she's had this nappy on less than 2hrs and it's already full!

*Use a premium brand nappy in a bigger size / higher absorbency.
*Wean her off some some her milk feeds. By 16 months most of her nutrition should be coming from solid food.
*Make sure the nappy leg frills aren't tucked in on themselves as this can cause leaks.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:26

@KittyMarmalade now trying pampers

I know full well where most of her nutrition comes from, she has a little milk with her breakfast and a bottle at night. They are supposed to drink around a pint a day. She drinks a lot of water/weak squash. Very assumptive to think I need to 'wean her off' milk feeds.

Good point about the leg frills though I'll check.

She sounds very small for her age, where is she on the centiles? DS is nearly 9kgs at 11 months and is still at the lower end.

We had all sorts of issues getting nappies to fit him as he's also quite narrow in the waist, but found that pampers nappy pants (the pull up style, not the nappies, did the best job. He's in a size 4 which are actually for 9kgs+ but he's been in them for months now and they're a good fit - I'd be surprised if size 3 have the absorbency you need as they're really designed for a younger baby

Brokenfurnitureandroses · 02/01/2020 10:31

Double, triple or even quadruple your nappies at night. Put a plastic pants On Over the nappies at night (a training pants). Works sometimes for me. My 2 year old is the king of wee!!

Lochroy · 02/01/2020 10:32

Try the Pampers nappy pants rather than conventional nappies. If she has a bed time bottle, her tummy will bloat up and then the nappy be too loose. The nappy pants are elasticated so flex with the baby.

How much does she weigh? Size 3 does sound small for 16months.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:32

@rottiemum88 she is on the 2nd percentile, always has been. She was little when she was born and has never jumped up a percentile line. She develops well and has met all her milestones so far. She's just little. Even the girls at nursery say they have to remember how light she is compared to other children and just looking at her you forget she's how old she is until you see her moving or doing stuff and talking.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:32

@Lochroy just shy of 8kg.

Will try pampers nappy pants though!

My eldest did this at around the same age. She was just a heavy wetter. I used Aldi nappies but put pampers nappy pants on too overnight so doubled up. The slightly different fits stopped the leaks. My youngest is 16m too and never leaks in just a pampers nappy, they're all different.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:34

I have tried size 4, they are just so big and she still leaks 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

MissOrganisedMe · 02/01/2020 10:35

Try sizing up a vest. It worked for us.

RhymingRabbit3 · 02/01/2020 10:36

Does she sleep on her front? I think that can sometimes cause leaks because the nappies are narrower at the front.

I think trial and error with different brands and sizes is the only option unfortunately.

MissE6791 · 02/01/2020 10:36

Don’t want to alarm you OP but have you discussed the excessive drinking and weeing with her GP? My son had a similar issue and it turned out to be a medical condition.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:38

@elfsocksandsnowboots glad I'm not the only one that's had a heavy wetting 16 month old! I just cannot believe how much she wees, its only been the last week or so but they are full within a couple of hours! I really don't think it's the size of the nappy. If you could see them you'd see how much wee was in them! If it was a 'normal' amount of wee and they were still leaking I'd probably think it was the size but I've tried upping the size.

StudentMummy92 · 02/01/2020 10:39

@MissOrganisedMe just moved up a size in best, but will try again another size for overnight thanks.
