16 month old baby soaking through nappies

So my 16 month old is soaking through her nappies during naps and overnight. When I say soaking I mean sopping. This morning for example she woke up and the whole of the front of her sleep suit was soaked, including legs and sleeves!

Changing size hasn't made a difference, she needs changing every couple of hours during the day because they are so full. I don't think the nappies can cope with the amount of wee! She does drink a lot I gave to admit!

@babycatcher411 I think she is as I would hazard a guess, if she was diabetic style thirsty she'd drink anything to quench the thirst. I could be wrong though, I'm no medical professional so I will still take her to the GP as I would not forgive myself should it be a serious underlying condition such as diabetes.

My 2.5 is a wee-bag! She drinks lots of water as she gets thirsty, we all do.
I have found there is an undeniable difference between the Pampets in the PALE GREEN pack. (I think they ate called something like premium or protect but not sure) whenever they dont have them in her size (which is 5 as she is tiny, still wearing age months clothes), I buy regular Pampers and they arent nearly as good, they however are better than aldi, asda and Tesco. This is my second child. My first also used to leak. He used to wear double layer nappies at night which helped a lot but I found changing the brands a lot was the best way to determine the ideal leak proofing and also turning the nappy top down inwards, like a fold over if about 1cm helped stop the wee pouring upwards, as well as making sure the whole thing was pulled right up around the legs when you put it on.
Good luck.

OP, shes not that small!
My DD is 2.5 exactly and weighs 10.5 kilos.
Some of her clothes are 9-12 months and some are age 1. I've just bought them. Her new shoes are size 5.
They come in all shapes and sizes. Dont worry if people comment, it's none of their business.
Mine now more than makes up for her size with attitude🤯. I'm told the little ones always do...something to prepare for!😉

I swear by lidls pull up pants..i tried sainsburys but had leaks and im not a big fan of pampers...i think it is finding nappies that suit the shape of your little one. My ds is quite solid build up top but has little chicken legs so lidls pull ups seem to fit him perfectly..

StudentMummy92 · 03/01/2020 00:00

@GlamGiraffe I don't think she'll make 10kg before 2! Some of her 0-3 still fit. Just totally fed up of people going, 'oh she's tiny', 'what size is she in', 'was she small st birth' etc... really pisses me off, I know she's small, but she's healthy and isn't the smallest of the small. Ohhh, yes her attitude is already something to watch. She's hilarious at times Grin

Yes, it would be normal that she would want to quench that thirst in whatever way she could, if it was a diabetic thirst she’d drink the water.

Fingers crossed for a dry night tonight!

StudentMummy92 · 03/01/2020 00:02

Actually I put her in 0-3 leggings today just about the house, there a little short and if she was 2cm shorter they'd be the perfect fit. Put her 3-6 leggings they fall down!

Have you tried 3+ or 4+ ?? that’s what the ‘+’ is for, it means extra soakage

peachgreen · 03/01/2020 00:06

Size 3 at 16mo sounds very small - DD was up to 5 by then I think (though has stayed there ever since!) Can you try 4+ and do.it up tightly?

daisydalrymple · 03/01/2020 00:26

Just out of interest, what flavour squash was she drinking? Black currant can be a diuretic, a school mum friend told me she was advised not to let her 6yo drink it. He was still wearing pull ups at night as still not dry, so they saw a consultant about it, who said this about black currant.
Not much use to you if she’s drinking orange or apple though Grin

GlamGiraffe · 03/01/2020 00:27

@StudentMummy92
People realise mine must be at least 2.5 because of her face and proportions but cant quite figure it out as shes baby sized still. I am regularly meeting babies less than a year old who are bigger, but so what!
Funnily I'm 5'.8" and her 17yr old brother is already over 6'2" so she theoretically should be huge, she just isnt. She'll make a wonderful ballerina, perfect proportions, or do many amazing things, so it doesnt really matter what size you are to use you brain wisely when you grow up, having a small persons attitude that they've needed to get taken seriously helps them have the determination in life.

StudentMummy92 · 03/01/2020 00:46

@peachgreen please read the full thread, it is very clear that my baby is small than your average baby of her age. It doesn't need to be constantly bought up. 4 is too big. Size 2 still fit.

@Lipperfromchipper there's a 3+!?

Blackcurrant Shock

It sounds like it could be more squash as the issue. Not sure if you know but some of them can be diuretic so makes needing the toilet more. Also with squash they can have artificial sweeteners in which can act the same.

Lipperfromchipper · 03/01/2020 01:04

@StudentMummy92 😭😭 I just had a look and even though I was convinced that 3+ exists...it seems it doesn’t sorry. But 4+ does for sure! Although having RTFT it seems it’s probably the squash so i would advise you stop giving it as you have. Also my babies were both smallies too! Both on 5th centile.

StudentMummy92 · 03/01/2020 01:30

Yeah think it is the squash, will keep her off of it and if it seems to work, I shall cancel the doctors appointment so someone else can have it!

@Lipperfromchipper its okay, I really wished 4 fit her, I can fit them tightly but they somehow manage to loosen up - they just don't fit Sad

Sorry OP, I was posting with really bad WiFi and only the first few posts loaded for some reason.

voxnihili · 03/01/2020 06:58

@StudentMummy92 - my 16 month old DD is also in size 3 nappies. She has just turned 9kg and size 4 are huge on her. My DD is also tall (she’s just growing out of 12-18 length ways) and her waist is tiny. I’ve recently found that her nappies are soaking through, especially at night.

I use the waterproof nappy covers for reusable nappies (we have the littles and blooms ones) over the top of a disposable. They are lined with terry so absorbs a bit and the waterproof cover protects her clothes and bedding.

StudentMummy92 · 03/01/2020 10:02

@voxnihili most people just don't believe it do they, my little one is just growing out of 6-9 length ways and they just about fit. Until you look a face or see what she can do physically and communication wise you'd think she was half her age, she was crawling on ti my bedroom the other week and looking at her from behind, if I didn't know her I'd not say she was over a year old!
