What's your "fuck I've got no food in" dinner?

Mines pasta. With whatever I can find to chuck at it/stir into it.

Anyone have any failsafe dinners they know they always have in?

Cheese on toast is always a safe bet.

FruityWidow · 01/01/2020 18:12

Scramble egg with beans on toast. Loads of hp sauce.

LBOCS2 · 01/01/2020 18:13

Spaghetti with Marmite is also one of mine for the DC.

DH and I have shakshuka - we've always got eggs, tinned tomatoes, onions and peppers in the house, and we usually have some more interesting bits and pieces to add to it too. Easy and delicious.

Same with pasta, there's always pasta! And usually some sort of tinned tomatoes or tuna or something. Yesterday's we had macaroni pasta, tuna, some Christmas cheese and salad. As you say anything really goes with pasta!

I always have bacon & eggs in the fridge and the larder always has tins of mushrooms, tomatoes, baked beans
Also a cheese brezel in the freezer

LifeBeginsNow · 01/01/2020 18:22

Bowl of chips with sausages cut up into pieces on top. Lots of salt & vinegar and a squirt of mayonnaise on top. All finished off with grated cheese. It's comfort food plus filling and cheap!

We have most of the aforementioned store cupboard items at all times but I also ALWAYS have a fray bentos pie and packet of instant mash as a last resort emergency dinner in the back of the cupboard.

We always have uht milk, cereal, rice, pasta, beans, some dried stuff, tomatoes/passata, pesto ,frozen veg, other tinned things like potatoes, corned beef, flour so we could make quite a few bits.

Our fridge isn't always massively stocked but the freezer is often full of reduced items so we could usually knock up a good few days worth of meals which is handy for the end of the months/January/illnesses and donating to the harvest festival last minute.

Nothing.

If there's no food, there's no food

Lentil daal - always have spices, an onion, and ginger and garlic cubes in the freezer. I’ve got so many lentils idoubt I could ever run out Grin

Costs pennies and only takes a few minutes to cool.

cricketmum84 · 01/01/2020 18:29

On the very very rare occasion I don't have portions of leftovers in the freezer I always have pasta and tinned tomatoes in. All in a pan with some garlic and dried basil!

fuzzymoon · 01/01/2020 18:30

Can of chickpeas , tinned tomatoes, tomato purée, mixed herbs , dried chilli flakes and pasta. Not a fresh ingredient in sight.

BikeRunSki · 01/01/2020 18:32

Pancakes, with apple sauce instead of eggs if necessary. I always have apples.

Straycatstrut · 01/01/2020 18:32

For the really bad days I buy the "fresh" soups (veg or carrot and coriander) and just eat them out of the pot with pitta breads. No washing up and no cooking. The most minimal effort required bar takeaway - which I can't afford Grin

Also haddock smoked or not, and cheesy mash. Yum. Sounds like baby food Grin.

Some sort of pilaf, always got rice in. Some fallback veg in the freezer and always a pack of bacon in the fridge plus veg stock.

Canadianpancake · 01/01/2020 18:35

Beans on toast or freezer surprise.

Rockbird · 01/01/2020 18:36

Cheesy marmite pasta. Luckily the kids love it and think it's a huge treat!

Deathraystare · 01/01/2020 18:37

Normally tinned fish (sardine/tuna/mackeral) with pasta.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/01/2020 18:38

I have hens so eggs are always the go to food for when I can’t be arsed!

CherryPavlova · 01/01/2020 18:38

A baked rice one pot.
Tonight we’re doing Chorizo, prawns, peppers, green beans, cherry tomatoes, onion, carrot, garlic, rice in a slightly spicy jambalaya type dish. Served with roasted broccoli.

Chronicallymothering · 01/01/2020 18:39

A dish we call chili garlic pasta. Which is always linguine/ spaghetti. A sautéed garlic clove in butter and olive oil, with some chilli flakes. Topped with Parmesan. Food of gods.

We can also usually make a risotto of some kind.
