What are your biggest (non-parent, non-spouse related) achievements of 2019?

BigYin · 31/12/2019 18:29

Not things related to to your role as parent or partner. What have you achieved as YOU?

Mine ...

Got a promotion! Still in shock about it.

Submitted a short story to a writing competition. Didn't place but it was an achievement to have finished something and send it out to be read.

Big or small - why are you proud of yourself this year?

I started my master's degree, fingers crossed I'll finish it in 2020!

iklboo · 31/12/2019 18:35

Had a poem published and performed at a poetry festival. I have no confidence in my writing really so I was proud to be asked to perform after the organisers had seen some of my stuff at the local library (writing group exhibition).

Got a promotion. I thought I had zero chance and wanted the experience of the interview process. Almost a year later I still think they made a mistake!

ColouredPolkaDots · 31/12/2019 18:40

Whooped my anxiety's arse. I still have little wobbles BUT I'm getting past so much I thought would've been impossible. Also finally moved to a nice area.

Thoughtlessinengland · 31/12/2019 18:43

Promotion!!!

DeanImpala67 · 31/12/2019 18:44

My own business has grown a lot this year which has been fantastic . I have also started a course to hopefully help me improve it further. Optimistic about next year now!

CamberGirl · 31/12/2019 18:46

Learning to drive at 49. Passed my theory and have my test booked for February when I'll be 50.

Barneythedinosaur · 31/12/2019 18:47

Now I'm thinking about it, quite a lot actually!
Got 2 promotions (1 in a temporary role, now permanent), completed a new qualification, and overcame PND.
I also lost some weight and became a lot fitter initially with a personal trainer, then continuing by myself.

Ginger1982 · 31/12/2019 18:48

Applied for and got a fantastic new job after being a SAHM.

CockerShark · 31/12/2019 18:49

I’ve been published in a respected nursing journal and also received a Deans Award at uni! I’ve actually amazed myself!

CuckooCuckooClock · 31/12/2019 18:58

New job. Same role but a different organisation. In the old place my boss was a total bully and made my life miserable but I absolutely love my new job.
Thank you for reminding me how much things can change for the better.

APurpleSquirrel · 31/12/2019 19:00

Dealt with my mum's terminal illness, her death & my grief.
I finished & got a first in my OU degree; completed my Science GCSE (which I'd had to drop due to ill health in my teens), & completed & passed Forest School Leader Training.
After redundancy I got a great role with an amazing boss for a very good company.
Bought our first house.
Found I have a talent & enjoyment in creative writing.
Made some new great friends.

Dictionariesandpictionaries · 31/12/2019 19:00

Asked someone out for the first time. It didn't last, but I was so proud!

moglovesmincepies · 31/12/2019 19:01

Left my job, and got myself a new one

AuntieStella · 31/12/2019 19:04

I ran 8 Half Marathons.

Really proud of myself (for context, in 2016 I was several stone overweight and a total non-runner)

bettybyebye · 31/12/2019 19:04

Promotion here too! 👍🏻

margotsdevil · 31/12/2019 19:10

Passed my Masters degree. Never thought I'd do it!

BadMoon · 31/12/2019 19:12

New job after years as a SAHM. Great hours and location and connected to something I'm really interested in. I'm still pinching myself!

bellyislikejelly · 31/12/2019 19:15

Promotion
Maintaining 6 stone weight loss for another year
Saving to buy my first ever house with only half left to go

Waitingforadulthood · 31/12/2019 19:17

Found happiness. Nothing has changed, but I've found how to connect with what I have and to feel content. I've lost the impostor syndrome and fomo that's followed me all these years. Fulfilment.

Medicaltextbook · 31/12/2019 19:17

Got a job
Moved for said job and just about coping

Parttimers · 31/12/2019 19:18

heidbuttsupper · 31/12/2019 19:21

Moved to a new city by the sea

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/12/2019 19:22

Put my foot down at work re pay for responsibilities the headteacher was wanting me to do. Resulted in a promotion and a permanent TLR payrise. Hurrah.

Went away with work friends for a lovely short holiday. So nice to not be responsible for my (teen) DC.

BobblyRash · 31/12/2019 19:22

Started a new business, all on my own. I was SO nervous of doing it I nearly didn't. But its going well and I'm rather proud of myself. A relative who I'd consider very successful in her career said she thought I was 'inspirational' and as a result quit her high paid job to start her own business too... turns out she was very unhappy in her former job like me and she didn't regard the money as worth it.

I'm proud of us both
