New oven - Bosch or Neff?

fussychica · 31/12/2019 16:04

My lovely AEG oven is taking longer and longer to get to temperature and as it's more than 10 years old I'm thinking it's time for a new one. I'd buy another AEG but they are all too powerful for the electrics here and I'm not in the market to get involved in uprating at the mo.
I've found two suitable models both with catalytic cleaning (which I don't have but fancy), one Bosch, one Neff. With a discount code I can get the Neff cheaper than the Bosch. Anyone have any views on which make might be best/most reliable? I'm so bloody useless at making decisionsGrin

@TeaAndStrumpets - sorry. I was gutted too but space wise, needed a double oven.

Neff Slide and Hide is great and not even for the door but just generally. Can I hijack the thread and ask anyone who has one about the self cleaning programme? I haven't tried it yet as I am worried about it - do you have to remove all the metal bits?? not just the trays but the brackets too?

countingto10 · 31/12/2019 22:16

Thedogisdrivingmemad yes you do have to remove all the brackets otherwise they will discolour and replace them with the temporary ones if you want to clean the universal pan as well. HTH

I’ve had two neff ovens and when it’s time will replace the current Neff with another one - my oven must be 20 odd years old and works perfectly and cleans up like new.

Bluegrasstrail · 31/12/2019 22:40

We got the Slide and Hide Neff oven quite recently. The thing is magnificent.

If it's helpful we actually have two Neff ovens, one with pyrolitic cleaning and one without. I wish we'd got the pyrolitic on both. It's much easier to clean.

In All Bosch neff and Siemens ovens you can only grill with the door shut.*

I’ve got 2 brand new neff hide and slide ovens and they both grill with the doors open.

buckeejit · 31/12/2019 22:40

Neff hide slide door & grill here-has them for 2 years & dribble between glass on both. Think it will be a pain to fix & the clean alarm is annoying! Otherwise good, don't use any of the fancy buttons though

ChristmasCarcass · 31/12/2019 22:55

As a few PPs have said, they are the same company so no difference in quality. We have a ten year old Neff and we love it, just as good now as when we bought it.

Hide and Slide is only useful if your oven is wall-mounted - ours is under the worktop and that is too low down to slide the door away (it’s a really awkward angle). So I’d try it out IRL if I were you. We were going to get it and decided against it when we tried DM’s. She never uses the Hide and Slide function because it’s too difficult for her to bend down that low.

I should warn you, the cover for the oven light is insanely hard to remove. There’s a special tool you can get from Neff customer services (I think it was free, if not it was only about £2), and that is genuinely the only way DH can get it loose. It’s the only flaw in an otherwise great oven. We don’t have pyrolytic cleaning, but I use an oven floor liner from Lakeland which goes in the dishwasher so oven itself never really needs cleaning. Oven Mate sorts out the grill pan.

Great British Bake Off have Neff Slide & Hide ovens. I’ve had mine 2 years & love it with no problem with fat dripping between the glass door.

TheBoxOfDelights · 31/12/2019 23:06

You can clean the glass, the door comes apart. I cleaned mine yesterday for the first time and it was fairly straightforward to do. The manual tells you everything you need to know.

DramaAlpaca · 31/12/2019 23:09

My Neff oven is 18 years old. I've replaced the element twice in that time, but it gets heavy use. When it finally goes I'll be getting another Neff.

TheBoxOfDelights · 31/12/2019 23:12

Oh and built in Neffs are still made in Germany.

fussychica · 01/01/2020 13:03

Thanks everyone for your really helpful comments.

Looking like the Neff with pyrolytic cleaning but without hide and slide as it's in a build under position and thinking about it as an oldie that might not be a sensible feature for meSad though I will go and try one out before I write it off.

I have two slide and hide built under ovens, can’t think why the doors wouldn’t be usefulconfused - I am short though so they make things easier for me as I’m not reaching so far etc.

Love the ovens, have one steam and one normal both with the pyrolitic cleaning function.

AlunWynsKnee · 01/01/2020 16:32

Sorry @fussychica I forgot I'd posted. As a pp it was the grilling issue.

JuliePorth · 10/12/2020 14:33

Does anyone know if a handle is available for the Bosch universal oven pan?

Varjakpaw · 10/12/2020 14:40

We have replaced ovens in every house we have had with Neff, and have loved them all.

We currently have two with the hide and slide doors, both under counted, and feel they are so much safer than folding ones. I had to take one of the doors off to clear some stuff that dripped inside (my fault) and the instructions on how to do it were really clear and straight forward.

TheRubyRedshoes · 10/12/2020 15:14

Do these ovens or hobs turn off automatically if accidently left on?

wonkylegs · 10/12/2020 17:45

Neff - I have one standard fan oven and one slide and hide one (stacked) and they are great they have been in 7yrs this week and are still fab.

wonkylegs · 10/12/2020 17:47

I have mine stacked so I have the slide and hide at the top with the regular one underneath - means I can reach safely in the top even though I'm a short arse.
