Baby girl clothes...fussy!

KatnissMellark · 30/12/2019 20:13

Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy them, whilst avoiding the following:

Pink
Beige/sludge colours
Slogans
Denim

Feeling very uninspired currently. I'm not particularly looking for twee stuff, a la JoJo Maman etc- very practical dresser myself and would like to find some colourful, practical baby girl clothes.

Frugi?
Have a look on babu pur for scandi styles

DuvetCaterpillar · 30/12/2019 20:16

I've got some nice basic things from Sainsbury's and George at Asda recently. Yes, there's a lot of pink, but you can scroll past it and pick out the more colourful stuff Smile

DappledThings · 30/12/2019 20:19

DD wears a lot of Sainsbury's and Boots. Mainly from the boy's section. Both are good for nice bright colours and a range of designs. I usually look at the alleged boy's section first these days.

I've had occasional joy with supermarket stuff ticking the boxes you're looking for. Also check the boy sections, as they often do brighter and more practical clothing (sigh). I like the polarn o.pyret stuff, but can only afford that if I find it in charity shops..! Have also found some brightly coloured mini boden bits in charity shops but have never looked at their website so don't know if I've just got lucky with the bits I've found.

Oh, and h&m do some pretty nice gender neutral stuff.

MiniMaxi · 30/12/2019 20:21

I like the H&M baby and kids clothing, most of it is quite unisex I think (lots of bright colours, not all blue and pink). I have a boy though so haven’t ever looked for dresses etc.

ArgyllFTM · 30/12/2019 20:21

H&M have some nice things, and surprisingly good quality for the price.

StanleyWalkersThirdWife · 30/12/2019 20:21

Kite?

Dipsydoodle · 30/12/2019 20:23

I know you said not JoJo but they do decent unisex leggings and tops, it's not all pretty dresses and knitwear. Blade and Rose too. My DD lives in tops and leggings, we don't do dresses, pink stuff, frills. Her stuff is all bright and cheerful and comfy! H&M have decent stuff too. I also look in the boys section in supermarkets as they tend to have a better choice of colours.

KatnissMellark · 30/12/2019 20:23

Thanks- the Babi pur website is great @ballsdeep

I will check out boots and Sainsbury's, have always loved them for my boy. Went to Mothercare this morning (needed maternity bras) and it was wall to wall pink princess vom Xmas Blush

what are baby girl clothes, as distinct from baby clothes ?
is not size the relevant criterion?

thismeansnothing · 30/12/2019 20:24

Little goat gruff
Babi pur
Tilly and jasper

Loads of nice scandi brands through there. My DD wears predominantly maxamorra and duns and moromini. When she's bigger I'll get her some albababy

Lipperfromchipper · 30/12/2019 20:24

Boden, frugi, Sainsburys and next

Monstermoomin · 30/12/2019 20:25

I like to get some good bargains from the gap sales and tend to by my daughter (6 months) boys clothes as they are so much nicer. Everyone assumes she's a boy, but I've had her in a red tartan dress and she's still been referred to as 'he' 🙄

Alicealicewhothe · 30/12/2019 20:27

Agree h and m seems to be my favourite to shop for non pink but still femine practical baby girl clothes!

Eeeeek2 · 30/12/2019 20:27

Frugi, kite, Sainsbury, boys sections too.

KatnissMellark · 30/12/2019 20:27

@Monstermoomin we've got no chance, DD will be in a blue buggy when she arrives Xmas Wink

Little loves Cornwall- all handmade so you're paying a little more, but they're all gorgeous 💕

Lololololola · 30/12/2019 20:30

I used to buy mine from Verbaudet - is that still going??

vanillay · 30/12/2019 20:33

Can you post some examples of stuff you do like?
Have you had a look in the boys sections?

H&M, Sainsbury's, tk maxx, frugi and blade&rose.
Occasionally m&s and JL

DappledThings · 30/12/2019 20:33

Yeah, apart from Little Bird Mothercare are pretty awful. I bought DD a pack of long sleeve tops from there the other day which had bears on them as she loves bears. As in actual bears, not teddy bears. Again from the boy's section. Sales assistant asked me I'd found what I wanted so I took the opportunity to complain that every single girl's top had silly rouching or frills on the sleeve.

Pyjamas are the worst. Girl's ones often come in some kind of slim fit with more fucking rouched sleeves. I don't even look in girl's sections for nightwear now.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 30/12/2019 20:43

H&M have some nice basics, often in lovely bright bold colours.

Quirrelsotherface · 30/12/2019 20:47

I'd look in boys section too. Lots of places now do a decent range of unisex clothes so the 'boys' section is often nice and bright these days with things like leggings, cardigans etc. Nice animal designs without being cutesy pink bunnies. John Lewis, Sainsburys, Zara, all of the Scandi brands would be my recommendations. You pay more for the Scandi clothes but the quality is great.

I've got boys and things have definitely moved on from when my first was born, when it was all jeans and sludge brown tops with 'here comes trouble' emblazoned on Crown Hmm

WTFdidwedo · 30/12/2019 20:49

I get mine from Zara and Gap.

Drizzzle · 30/12/2019 20:52

Nothing wrong with pink, for boys or girls. But if you don't like pink most shops have lots of clothes that aren't pink.

KatnissMellark · 30/12/2019 21:50

@Drizzzle agree there's nothing wrong with pink, if you like it...but I don't. I also don't like beige/white/sludge colours, I have admitted in the title I'm fussy!

@vanillay I've seen some babygrows made by a company called bonds in Australia which I really like. And the blade and rose leggings recommended by pp above are great.

My priorities are comfort and practicality- DS lived in leggings and bodysuits for the first two years, as they're comfy, easy to move in and change, wash well. I was a pain with him as well and would t put him in denim- he still doesn't wear jeans at almost 3. It just seems that so much of the girls range is frilly and impractical although by looking slightly harder than I had to with DS (and asking here) it seems there is decent stuff out there.
