you may want to read this..

www.nutritionaustralia.org/sites/default/files/Fructose_Printable%20Summary.pdf

you can't go sugar free. You can eat less refined sugar which we should all do. The guy's website is full of cake and biscuit recipes!!

wishing you better times - but please don't let this kind of stuff drag you down.

Salene · 30/12/2019 18:12

Yeah me , I'm eating way too much junk and sugar, I am assuming if I try to eat whole grains/ fruit / vegetables mostly and stay away from artificial sweetener and junk/processed foods I should be on the right track .?

chicken2015 · 30/12/2019 20:52

His book changed my life so im happy to go fructose free like i did before, i see it the same as an alcoholic giving up alcohol. I am definitely addicted to sugar so i am giving it up ive done it twice before but after a very difficult year i went back on it. And now i am breaking free.

Yes definitely stay away from junk and processed food and i find artificial sweeteners just mess up my palette as when i cut of fructose i no longer crave it but if i have artificial sweeteners i do

I’ll be cutting out sugar again for the new year. I was sugar-free for a good part of 2019 and I looked and felt better for it. I’ve slipped back into old habits though, so I’ll be back on the wagon as a fresh start for 2020.

chicken2015 · 30/12/2019 21:00

Good luck paper im nervous about withdrawal but aftet ive gone through that it so much easier and just becomes everyday

Barbararara · 30/12/2019 22:07

I’ll join you.
Baby steps for now: kicking chocolate, drinking more water and eating vegetables every day (I prep loads for the dc but struggle to actually eat well myself)

foreverblessedbee · 02/01/2020 11:06

Hi... I wondered if this thread was still going for no-added-sugar Support? I was trying no added sugar before christmas and did about 5 weeks. I felt so much better! I agree with pp it's like an alcoholic giving up alcohol. I'm definitely a sugar addict and looking forward to the freedom it brings by not being controlled by it. Any chat welcomed Smile

Hi, do you mean just obvious sugars; chocolate, cakes, breakfast cereals. Or are you going totally sugar free so no alcohol, cooking everything from scratch with unprocessed ingredients?

chicken2015 · 02/01/2020 21:48

Im cutting out fructose a type of sugar, commonly known as white sugar, and limiting myself to up to 2 pieces of fruit, so i check ingredients lists as its in most things and called so many different names , no obvious sugar treats and no fruit juice, no dried fruits, i dont have sweeteners as it messes up my taste buds as after a while i stop craving it and if i have it by mistake it tastes super sweet and gives me upset stomach so dont want it. It sounds very restrictive but once the cravings stop after a few weeks its so liberating (sorry sounds very cheesy) i drink alcohol so dry wine or spirt and soda and slices of limes etc but i dont drink that much anyways

Hi, may I join you please? I am on day 2, drinking redbush tea with a slice of lemon to stop cravings. I have shoved the remaining Xmas chocolates and biscuits at the back of a kitchen cabinet. I am post menopause, need to lose 3kg to get my waist back. My trigger point was eating 3 shortbread biscuits with a mug of tea at midnight New Years Eve (don't drink alcohol). The next day I realised I had not really tasted the 2nd and 3rd biscuits, the sugar in the the first 1 triggering a craving for more. Good luck to you both! Have just realised this is a thread with a bee, a chicken and a budgie on it :-).

How are you doing? Just completed MyFitnessPal food diary for the day - 13g sugar which came from grapefruit. Total food intake was Greek yoghurt/red berries/seeds for breakfast. Wholemeal bread/cheese/grapefruit for lunch. Cod portion/oven chips/broccoli for dinner.

chicken2015 · 03/01/2020 18:50

GreenBudgie · 03/01/2020 19:05

Hi Pavlova! Your menu sounds delicious Chicken, I've never tried sea bream, the closest I've been to one was taking a picture for a very excited angler when he had just landed one. Is drinking more fluid helping the headaches?

Leafyhouse · 03/01/2020 19:16

Funny how it's all relative. For me, 'giving up sugar' means not putting 2 sugars in my coffee any more. I clicked on this thread with enthusiasm - I've just come back from Tesco wielding a bag of Stevia and feeling very pleased with myself - but I think I'll just slink off back to Addict's Corner now...

GreenBudgie · 03/01/2020 19:36

Hi Leafyhouse. Swapping 2 teaspoons sugar for Stevia in 4 coffees a day saves 3720 calories a month, so you can be pleased with a pound weight loss from that change if you are interested.

chicken2015 · 03/01/2020 20:03

Going sugar free means different things to different people we should all be pleased what whatever we r doing

Hi ladiesSmile Today is my offical day 1 as I have only had 1 daybout of 3 on it so far. So today is my new day 1. Unfortunately. I am a sugar addict by any standard. But there it is, I find honestly the way forward lol.
I am aiming to lose weight and I know when I eat less sugars this happens. I the and follow the food guidance I have read about and works for me. But his is just for me and doesnt work for everyone. Like pp said, whatever works for you on whatever level is achievement and progress Grin
I tend to eat higher fat ( eg avocados, full fat greek yogurt and more whole nuts) when I am eating this way. I also try and eat some protein at every meal. I cut out refined sugar and obvious carbs like pasta, bread, cereal, potatoes and rice. Instead I eat lentils, beans, chickpeas etc and never miss the carby stuff. But I have to truly regulate myself in the first few weeks as one sniff of a biscuit/cake/sweet thing triggers me and I spectacularly crumble! For this reason I dont eat fruit for first 7 or 8 weeks. I find once I've done around 3 months I am more able to regulate myself. Sort of like pressing control/alt/delete on the sugar! Restart lol. Honestly the first 2 weeks are hell for me. After that, far easier. When you dont have it you dont want it. Like I say, this is what I have known to work for me in the past. It's just getting back on track after 3 weeks of over indulgence and sugar poisioningShock hope we can support each othe on this thread. Looking forward to learning about other peoples experiences xxx

Today's food: Breakfast Toast/ butter/ red berries, Lunch Rye bread/cheese/grapefruit, Dinner Chicken/broccoli/currysauce. MFP says 28g sugar. Chicken , your girls must keep you very busy! It's great they enjoy the meals you prepare for them. Bee, I totally agree that cutting sugar boosts the good day and protein content of meals and balanced meals stop the sugar cravings. I'm very restricted in the evening meals I prepare as I am full time carer for a parent with dementia, I stick to a limited range of meals that they recognise to avoid them getting confused, hence still using bottled curry sauce which has added sugar rather than cooking from scratch as I used to do. Hope you are all having a good weekend.

foreverblessedbee · 04/01/2020 21:35

Hi all.... my food here today was greek yog and nuts for breakfast and a 3 egg omelette with melted mozzarella and a leafy salad for tea. Feeling ok Smile.
Budgie - my parents are elderly too but thankfully still independent enough to manage. Doesnt sound easy for you but I'm sure you dona great job.
Chicken- I'm a busy mum too although I have all boys to your girls. 3 boys age 5, 10 and almost 12.

The amount of sugar they would be able to consume daily if allowed is terrifying! In terms of the longer term effects such as diabetes in later life, let alone their teeth!!
I've never quite got to grips with mfp as I'm a bit loathe to start measuring food, but I suppose that's the point isnt it. Xxx love to all
