I get excited about Christmas food and start buying chocolates months in advance to spread the cost. I had an impressive collection that I was looking forward to eating. When Christmas came I lost all excitement for them or they were t as nice as I thought they'd be.

I've enjoyed a grand total of 3 glasses of baileys since Christmas Day. I know how to party Grin

I got buffet stuff for Boxing Day. Meh.

I enjoyed our Christmas dinner very much and have had lots of fried potato butties in the past 10 days but anything that was special or a treat has failed to hit the spot.

What did you enjoy most that you were looking forward to and what disappointed?

I'm the opposite, enjoyed the sweet stuff but not so keen as usual on the main meals and cheese I usually enjoy. Maybe it's because it wasn't quite what I fancied on the day, plus I felt a bit stressed cooking the Christmas dinner as I had a few problems with timing.

Bailey's cream! I have a tub in the fridge.....I don't know what to do with it. We don't really eat desserts, Irish coffees maybe?

I don't like Bailey's, or whiskey though. What was I thinking?!

ANiceLuxury · 30/12/2019 10:22

M&S gateaux. Felt like i was eating just squirty cream
M&S trifle. Very sloppy!

I bought a chocolate reindeer cake in Sainsbury’s that looked glorious.....but tasted like cardboard!

ageingdisgracefully · 30/12/2019 10:25

My red cabbage braised in ginger. I was SO looking forward to it. It tasted of vinegar even though there was no vinegar in it.

I was ridiculously pleased with my cheap, frozen Lidl meat though. Best I've ever had!

Bohemond · 30/12/2019 10:35

M&S £60 stuffed turkey crown. Not worth the money. All M&S stuffing stuff much too highly flavoured. Trifle meh. Redeemed by cauli cheese with truffle.

Mrsjayy · 30/12/2019 10:38

My camebert and pigs in blankets wheel it was meh also the party food i bought also meh.

Pilot12 · 30/12/2019 10:43

The ADSA Roddy Reindeer Cake - we got it for our four year old but the sponge was really dry. I could only eat it with a good covering of double cream and our son hardly ate any of it.

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/12/2019 10:44

I bought some Blue Stilton and Chive flavoured crisps. They were horrible, tasted like sucking an Elastoplast.

The rest - I think I just overwhelmed my mouth. So much food and I was determined to try all of it, so my tastebuds just shut down. So it was nice, but mostly meh. Except the Elastoplast Crisps.

Mrsjayy · 30/12/2019 10:46

The Elastoplast crisps sound delicious Grin

cheesenpickles · 30/12/2019 10:47

Heston Blumenthal Chicken Liver Parfait. It is rank and overly sweet and the layer of... I think butter? Is like congealed lard that won't break down.

AhoyMrBeaver · 30/12/2019 10:49

The Christmas gin my friend made. I was really looking forward to a drop of it on Christmas Day evening, but it tasted like Covonia 🙊

Someonesayroadtrip · 30/12/2019 10:50

I generally get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff and then not feel like anything. My mum can get quite obsessive over Christmas food and every year ok forcing her to cut back but it's still out of hand. Mind you I'm currently pigging out on a Lindt chocolate bunny.

We still have most of our food treats here.

What I did enjoy was our m&s turkey roll, was lovely. The m&s cheese cake and coli cheese were amazing too.

Mrsjayy · 30/12/2019 10:53

My sister took the M&S cauli cheese to my mums it was delicious.

Buyitinbamboo · 30/12/2019 10:55

Christmas dinner. But that was because it ended up being in the restaurant of the hospital because my baby was in intensive care. Not that I had much of an appetite anyway but the parsnips tasted of floor cleaner

NormaLouiseBates · 30/12/2019 10:56

The M&S "The Best" trifle was amazing... hoping it wasn't just a Christmas thing. Bought one the weekend before Christmas... we ended up eating it and having to go back to M&S on Christmas Eve to get another one Grin

Quite a few disappointments this year though Sad M&S panacotta was poor, M&S profiteroles were dry and tasteless (we have these every year and they're usually lovely), Roses just tasted of oil. Some Galaxy truffle things that I was looking forward to on Christmas night were weird and had an odd texture.

Lol, all my examples are pudding/sweet related!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 30/12/2019 10:59

A Baileys Freakshake chocolate cake from Sainsbury's - the sponge was dry and it was all a bit meh. My DC's cupcakes made up for it thankfully!

RoomR0613 · 30/12/2019 11:00

My mum's sage and onion stuffing. I could usually eat a plateful of it by itself it's so delicious but this year it was just a bit meh.

She had used a seeded bread very heavy on the poppyseeds and it had an odd gritty texture as a result.

Ruined Christmas Grin

80sstyle · 30/12/2019 11:02

I bought some party foods that you put in the oven and didn’t enjoy any of it eg breaded mozzarella sticks, mini spring rolls. Cooked a few and threw the rest away.

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 30/12/2019 11:07

My other half bought some horribly smelly cheese and it put me off nearly everything in my fridge because every time I opened it, that’s all I could smell :(

Saucery · 30/12/2019 11:10

Booths goosefat roast potatoes horrible. Dry and tasted like oven chips.
Their Lancashire Cheese and cranberry filo parcels were like soggy toasties.

Shortbread jam stars, amaretti chocolate bites, salmon rilette garnish pack and vegetable pack were excellent, with really good dates on.
Gluten free ginger and mincemeat bars were lovely too.

ChiaraRimini · 30/12/2019 11:11

M&S chocolate and cherry panettone. We had one from Waitrose last year but this was rubbish, barely any fruit in it.

Mrsjayy · 30/12/2019 11:14

Ah no @Buyitinbamboo that sounds roughFlowers

yellowsun · 30/12/2019 11:15

We had a nice looking wreath Christmas pudding from Aldi that had loads of fruit in it but needed more nuts to balance it out- it was too sweet.

Afternooninthepark · 30/12/2019 11:18

Most of it tbh. I always really look forward to our Christmas food and start stocking up several weeks before hand but find that most things usually look far nicer than they actually taste and end up half eating and binned. We had a gorgeous looking Yule log which must have had half a ton of sugar in it and had the consistency of a lump of foam, a bottle of port which (to me) tasted like sweet vinegar and endless boxes of chocolates which all tasted like sickly sweet candle wax. The only things I’ve really enjoyed this year were a large pack of sour cream and chive Christmas tree shaped pretzels which I devoured!
