Dental implants for 1k each- should I be concerned?

I am DESPERATE for dental implants. I have three missing teeth and am totally miserable, my gaps are definitely affecting the adjacent teeth, and eating is awkward 😢.

I'm only 36!!

My lovely posh private's dental practice charges 2.5k per implant, meaning the cost of three is a pipe dream. There is no way I could stretch to this.

I have noticed a dental practice about thirty minutes from here charges £995 per implant- this is much more realistic!

But should I be worried at that price? Is the work or materials likely to be shoddy?

Many thanks

Hmmm - don't know.

I had 2 molars at £2.5k each. There was a HUGE amount of work involved and many appointments. It is the going rate for a reason.

Cheeseboardcriminal · 29/12/2019 22:03

They cost around 1k here in the northwest so I wouldn't think it is too cheap. Maybe search a few more dentists and see what the average cost is.

Hmm maybe it doesn't include the actual crowns? The website simply says 'Dental implants- £995'.

I'll call them tomorrow for more info. It's in the southwest.

Have you told your own dentist what you'd like and that you can't afford their prices?

Whatever you do, don't go abroad.

Mrsmorton · 29/12/2019 22:08

It's almost impossible to set a fixed price btw. The raw materials (the actual implant) are a fixed cost but none augmentation and additional healing times etc will all add to the cost.

Everythingsr0sie · 29/12/2019 22:08

Does it include the crown? When I have seen implants for that price is it just the actual implant but no tooth.

I am having two, and the price is about £1k per implant and £1k per crown. Am hopefully having the two crowns on one implant so that may be an option for you? (Assuming they’re adjacent!)

opalescent · 29/12/2019 22:08

I wouldn't go abroad MrsMorton- the prices are so appealing, but I'm far too anxious! I need a dentist I can pop back to if I'm fretting about something 😂.

I haven't really had a frank discussion with my current dentist, but assumed prices were non negotiable - is it worth having a chat do you think?

As a dentist I'd be very surprised if the total cost per tooth was £1000. Lower price is to get u through the door there will be extra charges. It's very unlikely you'd get an implant below £1500 cheapest. Possibility of getting to cheaper if someone has just qualified in doing implants and wants to build cases under supervision.

opalescent · 29/12/2019 22:10

Ah. I wonder if the £995 is just the implant...

Mrsmorton · 29/12/2019 22:10

Definitely have a chat. Be frank! I've not got much experience of implants but I do know that being referred to a trusted practitioner is important.

Shopkinsdoll · 29/12/2019 22:13

I know it’s a silly question but I’m needing work done, can you get dental implants on that nhs or some funding towards treatment

comedycentral · 29/12/2019 22:14

I paid 5 grand for two. Needed the bone augmentation as one of the missing teeth had been missing for years. My dentist offered finance so it will take me two years to pay.
The price you quote seems cheap. I bet there is more to pay.

opalescent · 29/12/2019 22:16

Yes, 2.5k seems to be the general going rate per tooth. I will phone tomorrow but assume £995 is only partial cost.

Back to the drawing board! Thanks all.

@Shopkinsdoll NHS usually reserved for cancer patients, trauma, or congenital problems. Best to ask your dentist if you're eligible for a referral.

Purpletigers · 29/12/2019 23:42

Would you consider a bridge ?

opalescent · 30/12/2019 08:45

@Purpletigers definitely, although I’d need three, as my gaps are all in different parts of my mouth! I was under the impression that bridges were also damaging to adjacent teeth? But I stand to be corrected?

Can you go to a dental hospital? The treatment is done by trainee dentists but supervised by qualified dentists. Not sure what the pricing options are or if you’d even be eligible but might be worth exploring just in case.

opalescent · 30/12/2019 10:47

I have just had a look- my neatest is Bristol. I might give them a call. Thank you 😊

I had mine done in Salisbury, cost around £1200 and was excellent...

opalescent · 30/12/2019 10:56

1200 total for one implant? That's fab, which clinic was it Gumbo?

Wrongdissection · 30/12/2019 11:06

I got mine done at the dental hospital for free after they advertised they needed guinea pigs for the orthodontic students. Best bargain I ever bagged myself.

EmpressJewel · 30/12/2019 11:28

I know you said that you didn't want to go abroad, but my MIL did and is pleased with her results.

MIL practically needed a new mouth, which was going to cost nearly £20,000. She was recommended a dentist through some expats living in Eastern Europe. She went back a few times over a year and even with flights and accommodation she paid about £11,000.

I know you said you didn't want to go abroad, but it's worth exploring. There are good practitioners overseas.

fluffedupferretonsteroids · 30/12/2019 13:24

I needed three teeth all in different parts of my mouth, I got a bridge done on the one tooth that you can see is missing when smiling and didnt bother with the rest.
