I'm at a wedding hiding in the loo

Man, it's SUCH a long day. I have been here for hours and am well and truly fed up with chatting now. Husband is being a normal person and having fun but I'm done. How long can I feasibly stay in here for?

OP posts:

I love a party but hate long weddings. A friend of mine got married at 11am party ended at 2am it was hard work!

Peakypolly · 27/12/2019 20:47

Why are most weddings so long?
Mine was church at noon, reception at 2pm, wave goodbye to the bride and groom at 6.
People had to be asked to leave rather than beg to escape.

BrokenWing · 27/12/2019 20:49

Feign a headache/period cramps whatever, give apologies and head back to your hotel and have a big bubble bath. Let dh stay and talk to anyone he wants.

bettybattenburg · 27/12/2019 20:52

Once I have had enough of being at an event, that's it. I just want to go straightaway and every minute thereafter drags.

I am the same, an event has a shelf life and once that has arrived I can't make small talk and I have to leave. Good luck OP, I hope there is a free bar that you can make much use of.

Smashtastick · 27/12/2019 20:54

Op if you have been there hours, find the bride and groom tell them you have had the most wonderful time, bid them sincere congratulations and leave your DH where he is enjoying himself and get a taxi back to your hotel. No need for this martyrdom.

I hate it too. This is why I don't go to weddings unless they are of dear good friends (who are all now married) and my own wedding was very very small lol

TeslaGirls · 27/12/2019 20:55

leisurely linger in the toilet

CHRIST I misread that*

So did I!!

Me too 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/12/2019 20:57

Weddings go on far too long IMO. At least, for many guests they’re far too long.
Honestly, OP, just order a cab and got back to your hotel. I’ve done that before when I’ve just had enough and am knackered. I’d say quick goodbyes and than yous to B and G first though.

Your dh can stay on if he’s still enjoying it.

marblesgoing · 27/12/2019 21:00

This happens to me at events.

Not weddings but sometimes work get togethers or family parties Hmm

Had the annual Boxing Day bash yesterday and I literally just wanted to put my pjs on at home after we'd been out for a few hours for lunch and coffee. It was peeing down with rain and dark and after a busy few weeks could have really done with just chilling but no.

The shelf life ended after three hours for me by which time I was more than ready to go home.

From the minute I kind of said let's get ready to go till when we actually left was less than 10 minutes. Swift 😁

We all had a fab time but definitely agree with the shelf life comment up thread.

Crinkle77 · 27/12/2019 21:03

I hate big events too. Weddings make for very long tiring days. How far away is your hotel? Can you just jump a cab?

Chesntoots · 27/12/2019 21:05

I know someone who got married today...wonder if you are there?!

I find wedding go on for far too long nowadays. I'm more than happy for just an evening invite. It's lovely to see your friends so happy, but it's still a long day.

KitKat1985 · 27/12/2019 21:08

Can you say you need some air and go for a walk in the hotel grounds for half an hour?

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2019 21:10

Who gets married on the day after Boxing Day? Is that in the hope that fewer guests can attend?

HappilyHarridan · 27/12/2019 21:12

This is why you should always take a book to a wedding. So the hours hiding in the toilet aren’t wasted.

sage46 · 27/12/2019 21:13

I totally get it OP , I am an introvert and although I do like company in small doses I have to be alone to recharge my batteries. We are all different and weddings can be long and exhausting!

dudsville · 27/12/2019 21:15

This happens to me at most events. I spent the social event of the day reading a man's watch upside down so that I could leave at the earliest possible moment. The 1st hour was....so.....hard.....

dudsville · 27/12/2019 21:15

The idea I'd taking a book is genius. I will do this from now on!

bettybattenburg · 27/12/2019 21:16

@SParklingbrook Who gets married on the day after Boxing Day? Is that in the hope that fewer guests can attend?

We are going to a wedding tomorrow, maybe it is because they have less days off work?

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/12/2019 21:17

Haven’t you got a migraine?.

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 21:17

OP what a mare
I’m really hoping I never get invited to a wedding again. They are SO LONG.

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2019 21:18

Ah yes, could be bettybattenburg.

I find both Christmas and attending weddings very stressful. I would hate to combine the two in the same week. Shock

Pogmella · 27/12/2019 21:20

Give the fire alarm a little tap and slip away in the melee (joke, obv)

MintyMabel · 27/12/2019 21:24

Who gets married on the day after Boxing Day?

My parents did. It was the only time off my Dad could get.

My mate is away to a wedding today. The bride is a teacher. This way they can wedding and honeymoon at a time that isn’t so expensive for travel.

Wilmalovescake · 27/12/2019 21:26

Is your car there?
I managed to spend a good 90 minutes in mine at a party a few months back Crown Grin

FlyMayBe · 27/12/2019 21:27

Are you the bride, OP?

Grin
AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 21:32

That fire alarm thing is tempting
Cameras everywhere though probably.
