Absolutely! As a family of emergency service workers this sentiment means a lot. DH is working Christmas Day and Boxing Day - luckily nights so I get to see him a bit!
Everyone working be safe x

Also anyone driving road gritters and those looking after homeless people. And cleaners for any of the many places that will be open/working.

Yes, heartfelt thanks to all NHS.

Exactly 9 years ago today, ds was admitted to ICU with swine flu, aged 2 years 4 months.

It all worked out ok but thank you Royal Berks, Reading. I owe you.

crankysaurus · 24/12/2019 20:18

Also anyone working in power stations and gas terminals making sure we have power.

And anyone on-call as local responders, in breakdown recovery services and the Environment Agency should there be flooding.

And those providing our weather forecasts.

I am working 7-5 as admin support for my lovely bunch of community nurses

littlebillie · 24/12/2019 20:27

Thank you all happy Christmas 🎄

JazzTheDog · 24/12/2019 20:32

I'm a Mental Health nurse, working the next 2 days. Just finished wrapping gifts for our patients (older adult) around half of whom have no family.

We'll have a lovely relaxed day tomorrow, we have plenty non alcoholic wine and beers and will eat our Xmas meal sitting with the patients. Can't wait Smile

MagentaRocks · 24/12/2019 20:34

Nice to see others notice the people who work at Christmas. I am a late shift tomorrow. 1300-2200. So no time for a Christmas dinner. I have done some baking for the Christmas day buffet. DH also working. We are both working through until the weekend. It isn't too bad though. I don't actually mind it. First part of the shift will.be quiet. Then it usually gets busier in the evening.

KiwiGremlin · 24/12/2019 20:43

I'd like to add in raising a glass to some of the wonderful foster carers I work with - never off duty, and Christmas can be an incredibly challenging time for lots of troubled young people as there is so much around about family and memories.

I've moved children to foster carers in the days running up to Christmas in recent years, and they have not blinked an eye at adding two more lots of presents under the tree, two more plates at the table, two more little people that need a lot of reassurance and attention - takes very special people - and their extended families who open their homes and traditions to virtual strangers too!

crankysaurus · 24/12/2019 21:21

Yes, definitely thank you foster carers. Also those at hospices (for whom I have an exceptional respect for already) and security guards.

Thank you all, I hope the day has a nice bit of Christmas cheer for you 🎄

crankysaurus · 24/12/2019 21:30

Whopping enormous thank you to volunteers!

Also those in morgues who will watch over our dear departed and those who head in to look after small creatures in pet shops.

OP posts:

Also air traffic controllers and those watching out for aliens, meteorites and earthquakes.
