Anyone feel like a quiz?

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2019 13:43

Rules. Post two questions- one lowbrow, one highbrowish. No googling allowed, for setting or answering- Mumsnetter’s honour. I’ll start.
I. What is the significance of 537ONN?

  1. Who wrote “ Here no tide runs; we have come, last and best,
From the wide zone through dizzying circles hurled, To that still centre where the spinning world Sleeps on its axis, to the heart of rest.” If you’re answering, include the setter’s name and the question number in your post.

I always feel like a quiz, but I don't know the answers to either of your questions; obviously, my brow is somewhere down around my ankles.

Anyway, is the first one a famous zip code (it doesn't look like a post code)?
Could the second be Donne? Doesn't ring a bell though.

Just checking: are you following Osman rules (ie is there just one answer for both questions)?

I suspect not, because I can't see how that would work for those two questions.

Anyway, that was in reply to BertrandRussell question 1.

(Happy Christmas- by the way.
And I'll throw in a Xmas Grin)

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2019 14:32

Grin No tricks- two different answers. Donne is a good clue though. And 1 is very low brow indeed, but maybe you have to be old. If you post some questions it might encourage people?

No idea to either of your @BertrandRussell sorry!

Low brow - What dries when it gets wet?
High brow - Finish the lyrics... ‘Blackbirds singing in the dead of night... “

Not sure if that’s really highbrow 😬

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/12/2019 14:41

I think my brow must be incredibly low: no idea for either of those!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 24/12/2019 14:41

That was to Bertrand, btw.

Horcrux · 24/12/2019 14:41

Extra points for who sang it

InfiniteCurve · 24/12/2019 14:43

I can't do your Clue 1 BertrandRussell, but No 2 is Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, yes? Smile

ncncncncn · 24/12/2019 14:45

@Horcrux

  1. Paint?
  2. ...'take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arrive.' The Beatles.
?
RamonaFlower · 24/12/2019 14:46

@horcrux no 2 Is it the Beatles?

Blackbirds singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly

MakingMNGreatAgain · 24/12/2019 14:47

@Horcrux

  1. A towel?

No idea about the rest...

anxioussue · 24/12/2019 14:51

Low brow here too, haven't got a clue

Horcrux · 24/12/2019 14:53

Yes to No.2 @ncncncncn

Yes to No.1 @RamonaFlower

Mine obs wasn’t as hard 😂

misscockerspaniel · 24/12/2019 15:11

Ooh, I like a quiz Smile

Who are 37 and 45?

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2019 15:14

@virtualcurve- yes. I’m kicking myself - I intended to put a bit Peter wrote hoping to make it harder!

The number will be very significant to many older mumsnetters, even if they don’t know it!

What does low brow and high brow mean.
I can only assume it’s hard and easy.

What colour did Father Christmas used to be. What year did he become Red

Who sings the line “Well tonight thank God it’s them instead of you” On the 1984 Band Aid Do they know it’s Christmas song

Boglins · 24/12/2019 15:29

Awwlookatmybabyspider:

He was white, he became red because of coca-cola but I don't know what year, I'll guess 1986?

Bono for the line in Do They Know it's Christmas.

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2019 15:30

@Awwlookatmybabyspider I think your 1 is green? Don’t know the date. 2 is Bono.
I was using low brow as a catch-all for popular culture!

OP posts:
misscockerspaniel · 24/12/2019 15:31

I thought Father Christmas used to be blue?

roiseandjim · 24/12/2019 15:33

I thought he was green then switched to red cos of the coca cola ad

shinynewapplesonachristmastree · 24/12/2019 15:52

@BertrandRussell is your number 1 question a famous number plate?

BertrandRussell · 24/12/2019 16:15

@shinynewapplesonachristmastree Yep!

OP posts:
HoHoHoik · 24/12/2019 16:15

I was about to say a number plate too. I remember a similar question from a pub quiz a few weeks back. Knight Riders number plate?

TheRattleBag · 24/12/2019 16:34

I have no idea of 537ONN as a number plate. Would have known 248 RPA though!

Didn't Knightrider have a KIT number plate?

BalloonSlayer · 24/12/2019 18:00

Is it James Bond's numberplate?

It's not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's because that's GEN something.

doadeer · 24/12/2019 18:06

Two from me!

  1. Who used to be on the old 5 pound note that was phased out in 2017 and what were they famous for?
  1. Before we used to love eating chocolate bars... How was it consumed?
