Tangerine, chocolate coins and a couple of quality street. Notebook and pencil type stuff, coin purse, lipgloss etc.

Santasy · 20/12/2019 08:49

Our stockings were a sock which were usually grey or navy knee high school socks (the longest we could find) and there was a satsuma, some dairy milk chocolates and small toys or hair ties. Whatever fit!

sanityisamyth · 20/12/2019 08:50

I didn't ever get a stocking. Who is supposed to be from? Father Christmas or parents?

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 20/12/2019 08:54

I am 41. My lovely mother did amazing stockings. She died when I was 20 but I have no doubt that if she were alive today she's still be doing me one. As a young women I'd get pants, socks, makeup, Body Shop stuff, hot chocolate sachets, stationery, a paperback wedged in somehow. Obviously chocolate and a satsuma too. I do exactly the same for my DDs now.

Camomila · 20/12/2019 08:55

I used to get mine from the Befana on epiphany (the Italian Christmas witch).
Normal sock filled with tangerines, sweets and chocolates.
When I was older they started selling prepackaged ones that had some small toys inside as well as choc - I remember a soft barbie sized flower fairy doll and a little purple bear that sucked a baby bottle. Think both are still at mums house in the box of childhood favourite toys!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/12/2019 08:59

Late 40s. I used to love the fact that I got a new pack of felt-tip pens and a new box of Crayola crayons each year - the only time of year we got new and then had to make them last (not well off family at all).

The new crayons before the tips were all worn down, and the paper ripped, and two or three of them got snapped by siblings...

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/12/2019 09:04

We'd always get a tangerine, chocolate coins, a pink sugar mouse, a few inexpensive things, e.g. a paintbox. Always unbelievably exciting!

I'm rather older than many on here. Stocking was initially one of my DF's thick, handknitted sea-boot socks, which he wore during the Battle of the Atlantic, WW2. We used those until they wore out!

NCbecauseitspersonal · 20/12/2019 09:05

Red apple, satsuma, bag of nuts with shells on, chocolate coins, posh soap. I am in my 50s now and I do stockings for my own family along these lines, with the addition of some small Christmassy stuff like tissues with Santa on them, or novelty desk fairy lights, and mini bottles of prosecco.

CobbleDePook · 20/12/2019 09:07

Recordable cassette tapes

thebabessavedme · 20/12/2019 09:53

57 here, I would get a satsuma, a bag of nuts, gold coins, a selection pack (eaten before breakfast) Grin a post office set or a paint tin and paper, a small magic trick and a Rupert annual.
The year my brother got a harmonica has gone down in family history (dont ever ever get your child one if you want to remain almost sane and in charge of cooking for 10 people Grin)

my dgs now has all my Rupert books.

Kanga83 · 20/12/2019 10:09

Chocolate money, socks, plastic tat stuff. I now do treat stockings to stop the plastic crap- so giant marshmallows, chocolates, crisps , Christmas Santa chocolates etc. Each child has the same so they can't argue plus some new fluffy socks and a new cup.

Poetryinaction · 20/12/2019 12:50

Satsuma
Chocolate coins
Walnut
Toothbrush
Pair of pants
Magazine
Nail varnish

I am 36

Poetryinaction · 20/12/2019 12:52

My kids are getting sweets, chocolates, bath bombs, socks, jewellery.

ExpletiveFairylighted · 20/12/2019 12:55

50s. Choc coins, felt tips, small toys, netted chocolate selection pack.

No satsumas, I never knew that was a thing until fairly recently so have never done it for my DCs either.

NorthEndGal · 20/12/2019 12:57

I'm 42, growing up we'd get a large orange in the toe of the stocking, along with assorted nuts in the shells, some marzipan animals or fruits, some chocolate coins, a small puzzle or toy, a notebook or sketch pad, maybe some new pencil crayons, a candy cane, hand knit socks or mittens

Chelsea26 · 20/12/2019 13:08

My late teen stockings were amazing! One of my dad’s long football socks with

A satsuma
Chocolate coins
New knickers and bra set
A bottle of vodka Grin
Expensive mascara that I’d never buy for myself and rationed for VERY SPECIAL NIGHTS OUT ONLY
Smellies

I bloody loved those stockings!

Gingerninja01 · 20/12/2019 13:14

An apple and orange which went straight back in the fruit bowl
That toffee that came with a mini hammer and a packet of Poppets
Maybe a small selection box
A VHS

gamerchick · 20/12/2019 13:15

Never had one. I feel like I've missed out Grin

MoonlightMistletoe · 20/12/2019 13:16

Mid 20s didn't have a stocking.

troutknickers · 20/12/2019 13:23

Late 20's.

Chocolates usually (sometimes a tube of smarties etc)
Socks
Body spray
Small toy
Small box of earrings sometimes

I feel very sad actually that I can't actually remember my childhood stockings bar that, and that's only because we had them into teens.

santasbigbum · 20/12/2019 13:28

Satsuma, chocolate coins, big tube of sweets, and a few small wrapped presents. (Am mid 40s)

PandaG · 20/12/2019 13:28

As pp Apple and orange that went back in the fruit bowl! Those big tubes of fruit pastilles or fruit gums, or Smarties, large block of Cadbury's, pants, socks/tights bras or vests depending on age, (but this was when our underwear was replaced, unlikely to get more at any other point in the year) new felt tips/crayons and drawing pad or colouring book, paperback or two, matey bubble bath or shower gel when older, various other toiletries (shampoo, toothbrush etc - again stuff mum would buy for us anyway but just filled up the stocking), and usually an annual sticking out the top. So mostly useful, some sweets and a few books. Maybe a couple of really small toys, but no tat.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 20/12/2019 13:32

Chocolate coins.
A small toy.
A book.
Some Matey bubble bath. Every year, had to be Matey.

Zaphodsotherhead · 20/12/2019 13:32

Satsuma
50p coin
Chocolate money
Cheap toys, like magic painting book or little novelty things
My favourite cereal in one of the little boxes from the selection boxes of cereal that you can still get (only day of the year we were allowed Frosties!)

I'm 59, so it was through the 60's. Stopped getting stockings once we were in our teens.

BarbedBloom · 20/12/2019 13:40

Late 30s. Always a Terry's chocolate orange, a satsuma, lots of toiletries and then as I got older, makeup. The big presents were always under the tree and Santa brought the stocking, so I suspect my mum used it for useful stuff so I would be more excited for hers 😁
