Naming a child with pregnancy hormones

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 15/12/2019 15:30

When I was pregnant I really, really, liked the name Stoven, I was convinced it was original and a funky twist on Steven Confused

I also really wanted to name a girl Spencer.

Now luckily, DH smiled along at my suggestions and we settled on a very normal name for our DC.

But, after having a conversation with a few friends one who wanted to name her DD Jypsy-Rose (spelt like that!) am I unreasonable to think that naming a child with the pregnancy hormones is bloody hard?

Did you have some crazy names you wanted to use?

Im lolling at Stoven

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 15/12/2019 15:34

Yes!
DD came with a whisker of being called Aline Accalia Rose Xmas Confused
And my nephew was almost Nazareth-Sebastian...

FizzyGreenWater · 15/12/2019 15:42

ABSOLUTELY.

Never never never use an 'unusual' name you 'discovered' while heavily pregnant.

You will almost certainly look back in HORROR.

Stoven 😂 it's sounds like a cheap brand of range cooker!

Sparrowlegs248 · 15/12/2019 16:31

Lysander. Grin

MySonThePotato · 15/12/2019 16:32

"Stoven" has absolutely slayed me dead. Love it!

Personally I had the opposite problem - only liked a handful of fairly traditional names. DH also liked traditional names but only seemed to like ones I hated. At one point he suggested Margaret and I cried because I wouldn't use that name because of Thatcher, and the fact that he would use it reminded me that he was from a very different background from me. Totally irrational. We agreed on a name in the end (not Margaret).

Garlicinyoursoul · 15/12/2019 16:41

Stoven! 😂
Just reminds me of the scene in bridesmaids.
‘What are you, an appliance?’

Hayls17 · 15/12/2019 16:42

Before we found out we were having a girl I loved Wolf or Fox for a boy Hmm

Garlicinyoursoul · 15/12/2019 16:44

My friend was hell bent on calling her child Anall - pronounced ann-elle.
She wasn’t having it that her daughters name would have been anal with an extra l.
Thank God that she came out of that fog and her child was given a fairly normal name.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 15/12/2019 16:48

I don’t even know where I got it from, I just declared that if the baby was a boy that had to be his name. It was only when DH pointed out that he’d get shortened to ‘Stove’ that I backed down. In my mind he was Stoven! Now when I think about how much I loved it I cringe Xmas Blush

I’m glad to see I’m not the only hormonal crazed mother with fantastic ideas.

Fantastic.
😂

rosieposies · 15/12/2019 16:59

HAHAHA. Stoven. Brilliant.

FizzyGreenWater · 15/12/2019 17:04

Stoven is comedy gold though I have to say!!!

Millie2013 · 15/12/2019 17:04

Not pregnancy hormones, but I named DD whilst still under the influence of badass labour drugs
Then had to ask the midwife what I’d called her, as I couldn’t remember. GrinGrin

FoamingAtTheUterus · 15/12/2019 17:06

Well DS had better count his lucky stars he was.born with a dangler because if he'd been a girl he'd have been called Heaven. Heaven Leigh to be precise.

Yes. I did read a dodgy Virginia Andrews book and yes..I was set on the name.........I want to punch myself in the face just thinking about it. Blush

Thefaceofboe · 15/12/2019 17:15

Lol at Stoven Grin

Iggleonkupsy · 15/12/2019 17:23

This has made my day. It is like a cross between a stove and an oven!

kierenthecommunity · 15/12/2019 17:24

Stoven sounds like a Christmas delicacy from somewhere like Norway Grin

I dissuaded by friend from using the admittedly very nice and normal name of Natalie by pointing out how it sounded with a south Leeds accent 😩

kierenthecommunity · 15/12/2019 17:31

I once worked with a guy who was a massive Stevie Nicks fan and said his first daughter would be called ‘Storms (yes, plural) after one of her little known tracks off the Tusk album

I never did give out how that planned out sadly

kierenthecommunity · 15/12/2019 17:32

Find out 🙄

LadyEv · 15/12/2019 17:41

"also really wanted to name a girl Spencer."

You've not been watching Counterpart by any chance have you?

DinosApple · 15/12/2019 17:52

Anall is absolutely brilliant 🤣

I liked Araminta. DH laughed. I also liked Wolf. DH vetoed.

Had two DDs with top 10 names in the end.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 15/12/2019 18:10

No LadyEv, Twas pretty little liars.

To be clear Stoven was to be pronounced Stove-n not St-oven. trying but failing to make it seem like an actual name

Anall and Heaven-Leigh must be as glad as my DC will be when they find out how close they were to becoming a Stoven.

Brilliant 😂 your DC had a lucky escape OP!

First thing I thought of was "Hey Stove, are you an appliance?" from bridesmaids.

Don't think I had any horrendous names picked out for DC. Am pregnant again and we cannot think of a single name that we like at all. Such a big responsibility. It's a good job some people have sensible DHs/DPs that vito the stupid names.

Itschristmasimallowedwine · 15/12/2019 19:13

I saw bridesmaids when it was in the cinema (only time) and I’m wondering if my brain dragged it up somehow during pregnancy. Would be great to have an answer to where the fuck I dreamed it up.

But would my brain remember that detail 8 years later?! (Yes I looked up when the film was released!)
