Can someone explain labour vs tories

purplepolo · 12/12/2019 23:04

Alot of people on my facebook are glad that the tories are looking like they are getting the majority, but on here it seems no one is happy about this.

Can i ask why are those who want labour and not tories to win want that, and vice versa?

When i look up their policies i see nothing shocking that would put me off either and ive tried to avoid looking at friends fb posts as they just end up being two people arguing about things im not even sure are true Confused
Is it allowed to ask who you voted for and what your reasons were?

Too late.

purplepolo · 12/12/2019 23:08

  1. did you vote?
  2. how did you decide who to vote for?
  3. surely if you didn't understand the difference between a Tory and a labour vote you'd have been hard pushed to have decided who to vote for.
  4. are you 12?
Iggly · 12/12/2019 23:20

Bit fucking late to ask.

In short, the Tories cut public services to the bone (while increasing borrowing massively) and labour prefer to invest in public services (and have a reputation for bad economic management but the facts say otherwise).

At the end of the day under the Tories people have died due to their policies. That’s enough for me.

BlueScreen171 · 12/12/2019 23:24

Who did you vote for?

purplepolo · 12/12/2019 23:25

Iggly .. this is what really confused me, for example there is what youve said but then one of the things they mentioned was abour funding nhs, police, etc

QueenOfOversharing no i didnt vote, purely because i didnt feel confident on who to vote for. The papers and social media made it rather confusing

OP posts:
FruityWidow · 12/12/2019 23:26

Why ask now?

purplepolo · 12/12/2019 23:28

FruityWidow ive seen lots of posts on here dissapointed with the polls, and also on other social media, but then also people happy that tories seem to be doing well. Im just intregued

OP posts:
zenasfuck · 12/12/2019 23:29

Well if you rely on getting your information from the papers and social media 🙄🙄

Why did you not read any manifestos, look up previous policies and voting histories? Speak to your local candidates?

Mumof3dragons · 12/12/2019 23:31

🙄 for the love of God. Read. This is why the country is fucked.

Can someone explain labour vs tories
jelly79 · 12/12/2019 23:34

This post has really bothered me.

Wasn't interested enough to question, read and make informed decision to vote and make a difference.

Yet creates a thread on a forum because you are intrigued at why social media is going off its tits and you are scared to miss out.

Embarrassing

AlexaShutUp · 12/12/2019 23:35

The demographics on mumsnet are likely to be a bit different from Facebook, hence the difference.

Unfortunately, the lack of political literacy amongst most of our electorate is exactly what has got us into this mess. I don't think the OP is alone in this.

purplepolo · 12/12/2019 23:45

zenasfuck yes i looked at their manifestos online and nothing seemed awful. Which is why im confused that people are dissappointed by the results.

jelly79 im sorry about that. Ive only posted this now because its blown up on here and sm and im confused about it. But not sure what you mean by the missing out bit, ive not posted this to get paragraphs of info about why people voted who, just to get some clarity. If ive bothered people that much i can delete my post cant i? Didnt mean to cause any upset

I didnt vote as i wasnt confident in who to vote for and i struggle to get my head round it. Rather that than just picking one and hoping for the best surely

LifeofClimb · 12/12/2019 23:46

Iggly has summed it up fairly well.

Are you personally happy with how the country has been run for the past decade under Tory power? If not, then they are not the party for you!

I don’t align with either Tory or Labour, they both have bonkers policies and poor leaders (but leadership can change at any time, so vote for the party not a personality!).
It is difficult to understand - particularly when there are so many lies. And especially the FPTP system, and ... then knowing your majority for the seat and how (and if) you want to vote tactically.

Some rude people here - not everyone has interest in politics. It’s complicated and if you’re interested, follow the debates and read up a little more if this has piqued your interest - next vote, you’ll have more background to make you feel confident about your vote!

CendrillonSings · 12/12/2019 23:46

Tories = freedom and liberty.

Labour = Corbyn and McDonnell taking all your stuff and letting you have a little bit back if they feel like it.

LifeofClimb · 12/12/2019 23:49

Purplepolo that is sensible not to vote blindly. And brave to admit that it’s confusing.

Honestly some people get on their high horse about politics. Fuck em. At least it’s interesting to you now!

If you do want less biased info look up fact checkers (which busts some of the bold claims from the parties). Try not to base your opinion on social media, or other people’s opinions, or newspapers (they are mostly tory FYI).

AlunWynsKnee · 12/12/2019 23:50

purplepolo people are frustrated because you could have asked this at any point in the last few weeks and you could have had help. You've asked after it's all over.

QueenOfOversharing · 12/12/2019 23:56

Nobody's on their high horse, ffs.

What @AlunWynsKnee said is exactly the point - why start a post about such an emotive subject when it's too bloody late! Why not spend the next 5 years trying to work it out.

FWIW - Labour are the red ones & Conservatives are the blue ones. Bit like smarties.

Pixxie7 · 13/12/2019 00:01

Tories freedom and liberty you must be joking, no nhs more deprivation more deaths.

purplepolo · 13/12/2019 00:02

LifeofClimb thank you for your comments !

AlunWynsKnee , QueenOfOversharing im not posting this in order to help me 'pick' who to vote though. Just wanted clarity on why its blown up. I wouldnt have used a forum to help me pick, and i wouldnt have voted due to own issues and difficulties that makes this confusing for me.

humblebumblebees · 13/12/2019 00:09

I think people are being hard on the OP. It's never too late to want to learn. I remember being clueless too. I'm old now and it's been a gradual learning process over many years to know where I stand politically and what party, if any, represents my views and values.

AlunWynsKnee · 13/12/2019 00:11

purplepolo the thing is that you don't feel you understand and we should get to people who don't understand. It should be clear but this election has been a whole bunch of misleading information. There are good websites that ask you what you think about stuff and tell you which party is closest to that.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/12/2019 00:11

It's like star wars. The Tories are the Empire and Labour are the rebels. Except the rebels are currently led by Jar Jar Binks.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/12/2019 00:13

Spoilers: Boris' sixth child is called Luke.
