Help me figure out how to get to the polling station

So I meant to apply for a proxy vote but for various reasons that didn't happen.
DS is 3 weeks old, he was delivered by C-section so I can't lift anything heavy or drive. I actually told DH I wasn't going to vote but I've always voted and I feel guilty if I don't.
I can't work out how to get us to the polling station, I can't lift the pram down the stairs without bearing its weight so that's a no go. I had SPD in pregnancy and it's not gone yet so I can't carry DS's weight in a sling or baby carrier for long enough to get us there and back. DH is very unlikely to be back from work before 10 to look after him/help me.
Just checking I haven't missed something and there's a really easy way to manage that I've not thought of.

Any other family or friends who can stay with the baby while you zoom out for 10 mins?

HelloCanYouHearMe · 12/12/2019 18:04

There is likely to be quite a few people around OP. If you venture out, I imagine others will help with the pram if you need help and ask

DorothyBastard · 12/12/2019 18:06

Call the local organisation for the party you are planning to vote for. They will likely come and collect you and drive you to the polling station and help you lift the baby. Assuming you have a car seat

I live on a pretty quiet street and don't know neighbours well, if I could get in and out of the house the rest of the walk is fine. My mum is the only person nearby but she has a previous commitment tonight that she can't get out of to help me. I've thought about splitting the pram and moving the carry cot separate from the base but I still think it's heavier than I'm supposed to lift. The doctor says my incision isn't quite healed and I don't want to make it worse.

If you contact you local party they may have someone who will give you a lift, I know they do it sometimes with elderly people.

MentalHealth101 · 12/12/2019 18:08

Yes ask the party you want to vote for to send you a volunteer

StVincent · 12/12/2019 18:10

If you PM me your constituency and preferred party I can find their number for you

Meandyouandyouandme · 12/12/2019 18:10

On my local Facebook page there were people volunteering to take people to the polling station so maybe look there if you’re on it.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 12/12/2019 18:11

Oh no! I don't want to bother people, I could possibly move the pram.

Yes I have been helping out today ferrying people to polling stations - parties are v happy to help 😊

Mumdiva99 · 12/12/2019 18:12

Can you get a taxi? Just take the baby car carrier and get it strapped in the taxi. He would probably wait for you.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 12/12/2019 18:12

What about getting a taxi and telling them when you prefer it you'll need the drive to help you get down stairs with baby and car seat?

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 12/12/2019 18:12

Order not prefer*

BlueEyedFloozy · 12/12/2019 18:12

Get a taxi.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 12/12/2019 18:12

Seems a waste to take a taxi just round the corner. I'm going to try and get the pram out the house.

Any of the main parties will have people happy to take you there. They won’t know if you vote for their candidate.

My MIL is a party activist and they do this all day long on election days. They’d be thrilled to help!

Gilead · 12/12/2019 18:14

We have specific insurance to take people to the polling station. Call the party you are planning to vote for, not bothering anyone. We volunteer and are happy to do so.

Kez0777 · 12/12/2019 18:15

My mil had someone from Labour call today to see if they needed any help to get out to vote. Thought this was a lovely idea to help those that need it

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 12/12/2019 18:16

Someone from one of the local parties will come help you get the pram out (and indeed back up) if that is what standing between you and voting.

Elieza · 12/12/2019 18:16

You could set yourself back months by carrying too heavy an item. Don’t do it. The people who give you lifts are there exactly for people like you! Use them and vote for their party. They will be happy to help you. That’s why they volunteer. They want to help you vote for their party. You won’t be much use to anyone if you injure yourself or you could even cost the nhs money if they need to get a surgeon to fix your insides and see you up. Don’t risk it please.

ThisIsSanta · 12/12/2019 18:18

Please ask for help!

hm246 · 12/12/2019 18:20

The Labour Party in my area is giving people lifts to the polling stations, might be Available in your area.

titchy · 12/12/2019 18:21

If you PM me your constituency and preferred party I can find their number for you

That's not right - you contact the party you dislike the most and get them to take you Wink

Apolloanddaphne · 12/12/2019 18:21

Would it not be easier to carry a tiny baby in a sling than try and get a pram down stairs if the polling place is just around the corner?

ginrummy1 · 12/12/2019 18:22

My mum and dad had someone call them last night and asked if they needed any help in getting to the polling station so I'm sure your party will be more than happy to help you out
