Help me figure out how to get to the polling station

So I meant to apply for a proxy vote but for various reasons that didn't happen.
DS is 3 weeks old, he was delivered by C-section so I can't lift anything heavy or drive. I actually told DH I wasn't going to vote but I've always voted and I feel guilty if I don't.
I can't work out how to get us to the polling station, I can't lift the pram down the stairs without bearing its weight so that's a no go. I had SPD in pregnancy and it's not gone yet so I can't carry DS's weight in a sling or baby carrier for long enough to get us there and back. DH is very unlikely to be back from work before 10 to look after him/help me.
Just checking I haven't missed something and there's a really easy way to manage that I've not thought of.

It's not bothering them, contact the party you support- they want your vote and will help you!

StVincent · 12/12/2019 18:25

Haha titchy - genius!

goingtoneedabiggercar · 12/12/2019 18:25

At my current speed I think I could make the walk in about 10/15 mins but he's 11lbs+ and my pelvis is still shot so I'm finding the sling quite painful.

Thank you for your help everyone, I had no idea that parties helped people vote, that's a really nice thing for them to do but I don't want to involve a 3rd party into this pantomime.
I'm pretty confident that if I can get the pram down the stairs right I'll be fine, I'll bump the pram down the steps and then put the baby in, I'll take him out first on the way back.

Don’t be afraid to ask a neighbour op. I would gladly help someone in your situation.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 12/12/2019 18:26

PLEASE look after yourself and do not force yourself to go out and vote if it's going to set you back health wise xx

NoSquirrels · 12/12/2019 18:28

Stop being proud - you’ll injure yourself!

You need to accept some help that will be FREELY OFFERED.

Please please please do t try it yourself after a C-section.

Society is nicer if we all pull together and right now there’s help available for you.

Please call a party!

kenandbarbie · 12/12/2019 18:32

I think that's ridiculous. You might injure yourself or at the very least exhaust tourself. Your baby needs you well. Take the help. You're not a martyr.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 12/12/2019 18:35

Thanks again everyone, not a martyr, not trying to be one. Tbh struggling a lot right now with being useless and unable to do anything for myself so possibly being stubborn. As is often the way with Mumsnet I regret posting.

There are people who have taken today off from their jobs and their families to help people get to a polling station. They do it because they want to! And they would rather people ask than they are sitting around with nothing to do. Give them a call, ask if they can send someone, strap car seat in and you’re all good.

LongLiveThePenis · 12/12/2019 18:49

Please don't overdo it if your incision isn't healed. It's fucking painful enough.
The feeling useless and unable to do things for yourself wears off, honestly. If you take help now it'll come quicker too.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 12/12/2019 18:51

Oh don’t have to vote for them because they’ve taken you there....

AlexaShutUp · 12/12/2019 18:54

Definitely ask one of the parties to help. The Labour party has tons of volunteers on the ground helping with this kind of thing, so I guess the other parties may have people too. You can still vote for whoever you please.

Embracelife · 12/12/2019 18:58

Ask for help
It s a life lesson you may need again and again
If your dh works late often you need to learn to bother willing volunteers and speak up and
ASK for help !!

FusionChefGeoff · 12/12/2019 18:58

There are people who's actual job today is to get people to polling stations. It's what they need to do in order to be successful in their work.

Will it help if you understand that you are helping them out but needing help???

littleducks · 12/12/2019 19:00

I got to hold a baby today for a minute while mum did something. Honestly was best bit of my day (my youngest is six and not squishy). I expect if you asked for help to go to polling station you'd make the volunteers day too.

goingtoneedabiggercar · 12/12/2019 19:16

I made it there and back without incident. It's a very quiet polling station with nobody present from any party (which I find odd because it's marginal) people in this town don't even hold a door for you so I think I made the right decision.
