It's election day and I still don't know who to vote for

I can't vote for the current Tory racist, xenophobic, power hungry ethos.

I can't vote for Labour's business and economic policies.

I can't vote for the Lib Dem's erosion of women's rights.

Perhaps do one of those questionnaires that have been doing the rounds? It helps with your decision making - there might be one on moneysavingexpert.

Then tactically vote for a coalition. If the Tories get a majority it's all grim for five years or more. If the Tories do not get a majority then the remaining parties will work together and thus cancel out the worse of each manifesto. A coalition is by far the best chance we have.

Comefromaway · 12/12/2019 10:12

We currently have a Conservative MP but used to have a Lib Dem one. I voted Lib Dem in the past but then we ended up with the previosu coalition. I'd love to vote Labour but can't vote for their current policies.

Then go and spoil your ballot paper but don't not go.

It depends what outcome you want. If you want to retain your current Tory MP and most likely have Johnson in government then vote Tory. If you don't want that, then you need to vote against it and find out who in your area is best placed to prevent that and hold your nose while doing so if necessary. It really depends what you view as the lesser of two evils. A vote for any oarty that's not in the race in your area or a spoiled ballot is voting for what you have already.

bellinisurge · 12/12/2019 10:19

I cast my vote and spoiled my paper. With a heavy heart. But I felt I had no option.

Morgan12 · 12/12/2019 10:19

Please vote tactically then. Alot of people and services will not survive another 5 years of the Tories.

JoyceJames · 12/12/2019 10:24

Who do you find least offensive, who actually might win?

DorisDaysDadsDogsDead · 12/12/2019 10:24

Maybe this will help?

tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 10:31

If I were you I think I’d vote Lib Dem... it sounds like they have a chance of winning your constituency? But there’s no way they’ll win a majority overall.

The other two are either fairly likely or slightly likely to be forming government, so their policies might actually be implemented.

FAQs · 12/12/2019 10:33

This is the most comprehensive survey I have found, it took about half an hour to complete, once completed you can also see how others in your area have faired (as a collective) in the poll. I found it interesting and my result swayed to a party result which will likely result in my redundancy.

Comefromaway · 12/12/2019 10:49

Hmmm,

I filled it in and my personal results came out 42.9% conservative, 42.9% labour and 14.3% Lib Dem!

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 12/12/2019 10:52

My constituency results were 23.1% Conservative, 23.1 Labour & 20.3% Lib Dem

OP posts:
tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 10:55

I did that the other day, got 25% for SNP, labour, Lib Dem and greens.

I feel like it wasn’t so useful tbh, I already knew I was left leaning with no particular party allegiances, lol

Which bits came out as which party? As in, any of those you feel stronger about?

Comefromaway · 12/12/2019 10:59

It doesn't tell you which party was which so I don't know.

OP posts:
YouWereRight · 12/12/2019 11:01

Same.

I did vote for policies, and it came out about 72% Green, 14% labour and Brexit party each, but our Green candidate stepped down. I absolutely don't know who to vote for.

YouWereRight · 12/12/2019 11:02

If you click into the party % votes for policies tells you which areas you matched with.

RJnomore1 · 12/12/2019 11:03

I’m in the same boat. There are only 4 parties standing here:

Labour - hell in a hand basket
Tory - hell in a Brexit hand basket
Lib Dem’s - hate women
SNP - stop the fucking world let me get off

A hung parliament is the best result I can think of so I may have to tactically vote SNP as that is the only chance of keeping a Tory out but not only does the thought make me feel sick I know the candidate and he’s not the sharpest crayon in the box.

I am totally, utterly, politically homeless.

MrsPear · 12/12/2019 11:03

For the first time I spoilt my ballot - only four choices. Conservative - can’t bring myself to vote for them anti wc and racist, labour again on dodgy ground with anti Semitic behaviour not being condemned, Lib Dem’s ran by someone who struggles to define woman or Greens who argue that the word woman is offensive - apparently I should call myself a non Male. No thanks

tabulahrasa · 12/12/2019 11:09

“It doesn't tell you which party was which so I don't know.”

It does, after your results, it breaks it down into which party you agreed with over which areas

wobblyaerial · 12/12/2019 11:10

You are not alone, OP

And that is why I think that any predictions about results will have a much bigger margin of error this time round than on any previous occasion.

colouringinpro · 12/12/2019 11:11

Take a look here and see who has the most chance in your area to get the Tories out

ButterflyOfFreedom · 12/12/2019 11:12

If I were you I'd vote tactically to keep the Tories out.
