What is your go to food when recovering from illness?

I've had a horrible bug since Sunday night and been feeling utterly wiped out and been sick. I've spent most of the last two days napping and after being sick this morning I'm finally feeling a lot perkier.

I can think about food now without wanting to be sick and actually feel hungry, I just can't decide what I fancy.

What do you like after a bout of illness?

Pizza and yazoo milkshakes.

Soup - has to be Heinz cream of tomato - with bread and butter dipped in

A big ginger lentil veg brothy thing with huge dumplings - nausea busting stodgy hydrating tastiness and if I fall asleep whilst it’s on it’s okay!

Marmite on buttered toast.
Heinz tomato soup.

Sympathies, OP. I am up, with D&V, so know how you're feeling.

My go-to, and what I'll be having when I can stomach something, is avgolemono soup. I'm half Greek Cypriot, and this is a classic Greek dish. It's a chicken and chicken broth soup with orzo or rice, and eggs and lemon juice. It know sounds awful, but it really is great. My mum is on standby to make this when I start feeling better as hers is much better than mine.

My other feel better from my younger years was dippy eggs, peeled and crushed into a cup and served with buttery sliced bread that was broken into smaller pieces and mixed with the eggs. The yolks had to be soft for this to work. I often had this when I had bouts of tonsillitis (in the 80s when doctors were reluctant to remove tonsils, I finally had them removed at 23 after a bout of quinsy) Didn't require lots of cutting and/or chewing, so was easy to eat.

Other than the above, I have to say that good old Heinz Tomato Soup is great and I realise the first two suggestions make me sound quite weird Xmas Grin

Mashed potato
Custard (hate it usually)
Plain crisps
White toast
Soup (whatever you can stomach)
Vanilla ice cream
Boullion/plain crackers
When a little better hot/sour broth type things.

bunnyjo I too had recurring tonsillitis and then adult Quinsy (Quincy?) and emergency tonsillectomy. Hellish. Nightmare. Remember having trouble breathing let alone talking or eating.

Lucozade sport orange (for sugar and electrolytes), Crosse and Blackwell winter vegetables soup, cheap white bread with loads of real butter on.

If a sick bug, I start gently with tea and toast and then maybe something like chicken broth style soup with rice cooked in it.

If getting over a bad cold, I often fancy soft boiled egg and toast (soldiers Grin ) Chicken noodle soup also good then.
