Has anyone got rid of a skin tag themselves?

I occasionally get very small skin tags on my arms or chest but they usually disappear on their own very quickly.
About 6 months ago I noticed one in between my bum cheeks which is bigger than usual. It’s not huge but I’d like it gone but am much too embarrassed to go to the doctor. Is there anything I can do at home? I’ve tried giving it a twist and squeeze but that’s quite painful!

A few years ago my mum had one on her chest, I tied some sewing thread round it and within two weeks it had dropped off. No idea if you are meant to do that or if it’s ok to do if the skin tag is quite big but that’s what worked for hers!

Fuzzysocksies · 11/12/2019 11:02

I get rid of small ones with nail clippers. Hurts for a second but not bad.

CottonSock · 11/12/2019 11:03

Yes fine nail clippers and twisting myself.

Interested in this thread?

Not sure if it's healthy but I snip them off with scissors.

FizzyPink · 11/12/2019 11:10

Oohh nail clippers could be a good shout although due to its location I can’t actually see it without taking a photo so would be slightly wary!

I think if it's small you can remove it yourself - scissors, nail clippers or tie a thread or dental floss around it. You can also get kits in the chemist.

PerkingFaintly · 11/12/2019 11:38

I used something like this for one in an awkward place. I'd failed several times to tie thread round the neck, but this got a little rubber band on it just right. No worries about a thread getting damp and manky, either...

I think I’d go for banding option..at least it cuts off blood supply first and as others point out appears to drop off itself then

silky4960 · 11/12/2019 11:45

I used pur Tea Tree oil just dab a bit on each night and morning takes a few weeks depending on the size of the skin tag

LesLavandes · 11/12/2019 11:46

I had one on my eyelid. Retinol cream got rid of it

Deadjinglebellringer · 11/12/2019 11:52

I had one near my arm pit which I ignored for years until my bra strap started scraping off it and making it bleed. I tied string around it as a pp suggested and it eventually fell off. It turned black and it took weeks to go but it never came back.

cantfindname · 11/12/2019 12:06

I got rid of a few with a piece of thread. Worked really fast, 2 - 3 days but maybe I tied it tighter than many! I put a tiny plaster or piece of micropore tape over it to stop it getting caught in clothing.

Instagrump · 11/12/2019 12:13

I had one on my rear and got DH to tie cotton round it tightly and placed a plaster over the top (so I didn't knock it and hurt it). It died and fell off about a week later.
You can buy a device from amazon that has teeny tiny elastic bands that get placed over them and do the same job as the cotton.

lookingforthis · 11/12/2019 12:14

Yes I've done it with a piece of thread. If it's in a place where you can't reach, do you have someone who could help?

amusedbush · 11/12/2019 12:28

I tied thread around one at the base of my neck and then used nail clippers. However I had larger ones around my armpit and I had to see the doctor for those - he cut through them with a hot wire Shock

SunsetBoulevard3 · 11/12/2019 12:31

Tea tree oil. I find it works like magic. Just put a drop on every day until it falls off.

LongLiveThePenis · 11/12/2019 12:33

The string thing is what a doctor told me to do

dementedma · 11/12/2019 12:48

I have one on my face. I cant go round with a bit of string on it. I will try the tea tree

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/12/2019 13:14

Not on myself, but I've removed a few from my dh's neck with a pair of tweezers to stretch it out and a very sharp pair of scissors.

Itllbelonelythischristmas · 11/12/2019 13:15

Does it hurt at all? If you tie them I mean. I have one that I’m keen to get rid of but I’m a wimp

Singlenotsingle · 11/12/2019 13:25

I twizzle them round and round with a fingertip. It takes a few days twizzling whenever I think of it, but eventually they disappear..

MrsNoMopp · 11/12/2019 13:30

I've snipped them off with nail scissors (sharp and clean, obviously). They bleed more than you'd expect but it's certainly doable.

Beautiful3 · 11/12/2019 13:50

I've cut mine off when they were small, with nail clippers.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 11/12/2019 14:43

No but I saw an advert on amazon for some magic freezing spray and almost wished I had one so that I could give it a go.

BaubleTheLumpOfCoal · 11/12/2019 14:46

I have.

I just kept twisting it, it shrunk and went really dark, then fell off.

I think it depends on where/how big it is though, I've heard it can be dangerous(?)
