Chapped lips.

I have them - please tell me your favourite remedies . I am resisting the urge to lick them, and do put plain vaseline on them at night, but can anybody recommend other treatments? I feel the vaseline is preventing them from healing, but on the other hand I need to moisturise them so they don't crack when I move my mouth. Thanks in advance.

Astral, I slap it on everywhere.
A v small amount on your lips will moisturise.

I use O'keeffe's lip repair. I have several that I keep in my handbag, car, bedside table.

Aquaphor is brilliant for dry and chapped lips. Loads better than chapstick and stuff like that.

Ds gets a very red outline to his lips in cold weather, it looks like he is wearing lip liner. Savlon cream is good for that.

Stay away from lip balms or anything that’s advertised especially for lips - I used to use them all the time, then one day I couldn’t find mine so had to make do with just a bit of regular moisturiser. Turns out that it’s the best thing to keep my lips unchapped for the longest time. Never looked back. Saved a fortune since probably.

I would put sudocreme on

The best thing in the world for chapped lips... is nipple cream. Lansinoh, made of pure lanolin. Its amazing. It penetrates the sore bits rather than just sitting on the top like vaseline. Its brill! Think about how good it must be to sort out sore nips!

I love Carmex - no other lip balm compares and it has a lovely tingle and stops pain really quickly. Where I live it's really cold in winter and I'm very prone to dry skin and lips a d I really rate Carmex. It's one of the few things I still bring over from the U.K. after spending the last 8 years acclimatising and needing less and less from 'home'! Mitchum deodorant, gravy browning and Colman's mustard powder are the others - not random at all!!!

Ime Vaseline makes things worse. I don't think petroleum-based products are good on lips and use a lip balm mostly made of Shea butter. Get a couple the same and keep one by your bed (last thing at night) and one in your coat pocket (each time you go out).

Blistex for me too. It's the only thing that works for me

WhatchaMaCalllit · 07/12/2019 17:29

Any of the suggestions above & drink lots of water. I'd tend to go for Vaseline and drinking water.

BertieBotts · 07/12/2019 17:39

Drink more water.

Use a lip balm that's less greasy and you can safely lick off - I wouldn't want to ingest vaseline.

BertieBotts · 07/12/2019 17:41

And you want a barrier type thing for when you're outside. Some lip balms act as both.

pigletpie2177 · 07/12/2019 17:44

I second lansinoh - kept it in my handbag for months after I stopped needing it as nipple cream as it was such a great lip balm.

For times when mine are really bad I order flexitol lip balm online. Doesn't smell the best but it works wonders.

AlwaysCheddar · 07/12/2019 17:49

Blistex metal tube works every time . Buy it and smile!!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 07/12/2019 17:50

Definitely sudocrem overnight each night - same for around your nose if you get a cold and it's sore from rubbing/blowing your nose.
It doesn't sting at all, where a lot of other creams can.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/12/2019 17:51

Milton Brown vitamin lip saver. Expensive but worth it. Only thing that doesn't cause a vicious circle. And drink water, not booze!

I realised I was allergic to lanolin by using lansinoh on my lips. The only thing that works for me is the blistex in the little pots. Blue is a Medicated one and the white one is a more everyday one.

rosegoldivy · 07/12/2019 17:56

Vasaline. I swear by the wee blue tin vasaline. I always have one on me

PrincessHoneysuckle · 07/12/2019 18:05

Blistex gets rid of them within 24hrs
