Chapped lips.

I have them - please tell me your favourite remedies . I am resisting the urge to lick them, and do put plain vaseline on them at night, but can anybody recommend other treatments? I feel the vaseline is preventing them from healing, but on the other hand I need to moisturise them so they don't crack when I move my mouth. Thanks in advance.

Vaseline is the worst.

Get the basic blue Nivea lip balm.

AnAngryElf

Carmex.

QueenOfTheFae · 07/12/2019 18:20

I like EOS

Vaseline doesn’t heal the chapped lips, it will just act as a barrier to protect when you’re outside but it definitely doesn’t heal them. Blistex in the small white and blue tube is the best for healing them

Thanks everyone. I have ordered Aquaphor and will give it a go. I have a bright red ring around my lips and look like Ronald Mcfucking Donald. I didn't get on with o keefes. I will use vaseline until the other stuff arrives. It seems counter intuitive putting vaseline on an area that is slightly scabby, as then it won't dry out. I don't drink, so that's not a problem, and I'm drinking everything else through a straw as I don't want to keep getting my lips wet.

The best thing I found was Boots number 7 lip cream.

Alez · 07/12/2019 18:50

Blistex! The one that comes in the white tube. All of those more medical looking lip balms in tubes are excellent really.

beargrass · 07/12/2019 18:53

Another vote for Lanisoh! It's miracle stuff.

Ellmau · 07/12/2019 18:54

Lypsyl. Really effective despite being cheap.

georgialondon · 07/12/2019 19:17

The best method ever, including expensive products, is to put Vaseline on and then gently brush your lips with a soft used toothbrush.. instant soft lips.

JJSS123 · 07/12/2019 19:25

When I have my lip fillers done she always says not to use vaseline as it drys them out even more! I swear by the Nu skin plumping balm I love it. SO moisturising. I order off amazon it’s really lovely. It’s around £20 ish so If I’m running out I use the palmers coco butter one I think it is. Still nice but it feels really greasy compared to my usual :)

A B vitamin complex and eat some eggs.

Then, I recommend if you can afford it, Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.

Plain chapstick (the black one) is a close runner up.

Vaseline doesn't work.

Boots own plain baby bum cream at night (zinc and castor oil) is great too.

Heismyopendoor · 07/12/2019 20:02

Vaseline is kak!

I like burts bees or Carmex. I’ve got tubes of them all over the house, handbag, car etc

hotchocdrinker · 07/12/2019 20:49

Another vote for Blistex in the metal tube. If your lips are badly cracked it will sting like hell for a few seconds then you'll have a sense of utter relief! I use it winter and summer, every day. It's sooo good!

Gherkinbee · 08/12/2019 00:11

If you have the money, Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.

Thelnebriati · 08/12/2019 00:59

The best thing I've used was a vitamin E lip balm, they healed up in days.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2019 01:30

Carmex.

Kiehls good too but far more expensive.

mathanxiety · 08/12/2019 01:32

Aquaphor is far better for the red area around your lips than vaseline.

Jupiters · 08/12/2019 10:19

Don't use vaseline! It does not have any moisturising properties at all. It only works as a barrier by sitting on top of your skin, so it won't do anything for chapped lips.

banivani · 08/12/2019 10:34

Vaseline is petrolatum. A lot of the recommended products here are based on just that, petrolatum. It’s an excellent barrier product, locking in the moisture and preventing it from evaporating. If there’s no moisture to lock in there’s not much it can do except act as an emollient, and that only goes so far with cracked and peeling skin.

Moisture needs to come from within first and foremost. If your cuticles are dry too that’s a sure sign you need to drink more. Maybe eat some more healthy fats.

Aquaphor and Bepanten are good because they contain bepanthenol or panthenol, which is proven to heal skin. They have this ingredient in a base of Vaseline and lanolin, resp.

I agree that regular moisturiser on the lips with a barrier cream on top should be good.

A dab of Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
And keep hydrated.

healthylifestylee · 08/12/2019 11:01

I use body shop hemp or other body shop ones during the day as I have one on my desk at work
And lush sugar scrub.
Sugar scrub in the morning to get rid of any dry bits if needed
