Has anyone's DC got attached to a random object at this age?

MIL gave me a packet of coffee to pass on to a relative yesterday. Now DS says he loves it and wants to keep it Confused

@sugarbum - ds3 fell deeply and passionately in love with a toy dh’s on, when he was about 2.5. It was a Christmas present for him and his brothers from MIL, but neither of the other two got a look in on Christmas Day because ds3 hugged it to his bosom, said MINE!, and took it into the tent (also a present from MIL, iirc), and wouldn’t let anyone touch it.

BowiesJumper · 06/12/2019 20:06

My 4yr old is currently harbouring a tissue the nurse gave him after his flu vaccination spray a couple of days ago (thankfully it’s unused). It’s his friend apparently and he keeps it in his pocket... it’s looking a bit worse for wear now. Hmm

SnugglySnerd · 06/12/2019 20:16

Ds likes the pastry brush. He is always playing with it. If I ever want to use it I have to search the house for it and put it in the dishwasher before use!

ShadowOnTheSun · 06/12/2019 20:50

Another rock here (rocks and potatoes seem to be a popular choice!). It was a small-ish black rock and his name was Jimmy. He was my DD's best friend. For the whole 2 days!

Knowhowufeel · 06/12/2019 20:59

One of mine was rather attached to some rocks and a tea towel. They took it everywhere and would cuddle it to sleep.

My 5 year old is extremely attached to a ball of white tack....it goes in the car to school with her on a morning and is carried about / in a pocket at home. When her cousin came over I found them in her bedroom where she was showing him the white tack.. When they noticed me they hid it like it was a packet of drugs... Weirdos Grin

FairyJuice · 06/12/2019 22:34

These are hilarious, kids are such little weirdos at times Grin

We've had a good few over the years but one that sticks out was 2 yo dds attachment to the letter Y from a set of alphabet fridge magnets. For about 6 months, she insisted on carrying it around and literally would not settle in bed without it. Except she sometimes forgot it was a Y and would go round the house screaming "Where's my L/X/Z/R?" much to the bemusement of anyone present. Every time I handed it to her I would start singing the Annie Lennox "Why" song and it used to make her really cross and she'd shout at me to stop singing the Y song Grin

My sister carried round an orange plastic cheese grater for a solid year when she was about four. She also insisted she was a cat and answered only to the name Lucky. She miaowed at everyone. She's 28 and mostly notmal now.

SickNotes · 06/12/2019 22:52

DS has had a painted stone called Arnold, an imaginary orangutan, and a beloved pine cone called Fluffy who used to sleep on his pillow.

Topazance · 06/12/2019 23:09

Another potato story. One of mine had not one but three pretend friends. One was called potato.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 06/12/2019 23:45

My youngest was obsessed with the router for the longest time. The happiest day of his toddlerhood was when we upraised from standard adsl to wireless, as the engineer gave him the dinky little netgear router to keep. He took it everywhere for months.

Knittingnanny · 06/12/2019 23:54

I was an infant teacher for nearly forty years and have seen some “ interesting” objects . One child brought an empty yoghurt pot every day for months as her comfort item .
Show and tell has been interesting also, I’ve seen a few items from the Ann summers shop which have been brought in unnoticed from home!

Foghead · 06/12/2019 23:57

When my dd was a toddler, she insisted on going to bed with a head of broccoli.
Ds would carry around a sock at all times and empty his sock drawer to make a nest of socks in his bed to sleep in every night.
They are growing up to be a bit more normal, thank goodness.

Halo1234 · 07/12/2019 00:03

Not carrying around (thank god) but my r year old has set up a "car" in her bedroom. It's the stool from my dressing table a car seat from when she was little and 2 dolls buggies. She plays in/with her car every day and we are not allowed to touch/move it. It's been there for almost a week now. She is quite attached. Worried it might be staying. I miss my dressing table stool. This post is great funny the things they do.

Halo1234 · 07/12/2019 00:04

4 year old not r year old.

ilovepixie · 07/12/2019 00:39

When I was little my 2 best friends were a mop and a bouncy ball!

SavoyCabbage · 07/12/2019 09:22

She can't pour a boiling kettle of water down the drain. The bath is full of water.

SavoyCabbage · 07/12/2019 09:23

Sorry, wrong thread!

lilgreen · 07/12/2019 09:24

My 2 year old niece wouldn’t go out of the house without a tube of toothpaste. It last several months.

rainbowlou · 07/12/2019 09:28

My dd couldn’t bring herself to eat the face of a chocolate bunny, it was given a name and lived in our fridge for a good couple of years (in the egg compartment).
It broke when we moved and the devastation was just too much!

housinghelp101 · 07/12/2019 09:32

When dd was about 2 she fished an eaten corn on the cob out of the bin and kept it for several months. Thankfully it just dried out and didn't smell.

longtompot · 07/12/2019 09:38

My dd when she was a toddler, so about 2, used to carry a Little Collins book of Whiskeys!

She's 22 now, and I don't think has ever had a drop of the stuff!

anothernamejeeves · 07/12/2019 09:48

My son was very attached to a courgette his grandad grew in his garden. I found him sat in his wardrobe holding it one day

loserssaywhat · 07/12/2019 10:37

When my son was little he was obsessed with cotton wool cleansing pads. He would tuck them under his dummy just under his nose so he could sniff them all day and sometimes stuff one in his ear. As soon is it got a little worn he'd grab a new one!

FishyMcFishyfingersFace · 07/12/2019 10:44

Ah, think nothing of it OP. As is shown by POs, it happens with a variety of things.

When ds3 was a toddler he loved sitting in the seat in the shopping trolley in supermarkets cuddling turnips. He has always loved eating them but also cuddled them when going to buy them. He is 12 now and still mentions that he used to do this and is very proud of it.

Having 4 children I am sure there are many other stories like this I have erased from my memory, but ds3 keeps reminding me of this one.
