Clipper is the best easy to get instant. I think the best, best one is Perugina - its Italian and you can stand your spoon up in it! But I dont know where to buy it here.
Jamie Oliver's hot chocolate recipe looks awesome bit I haven't actually tried it.

Ftumch · 05/12/2019 16:26

Actually, I think it was in Perugia that I tried it first, not Perugina the brand. There are a few different italian style hot chocs available bu the looks of it!

IggyAce · 05/12/2019 16:27

I can say the Jamie Oliver one is gorgeous and I loved it. However since I was the only one in my household that did I didn’t bother making another batch of it.

Green and Blacks is lovely. Easy to get in Supermarkets too.

Small cup of ridiculously thick, hot choc.

You’ll never go back to the thin, over sweetened stuff.

MellowMelly · 05/12/2019 16:50

We love Options instant Belgian hot chocolate. I make it with whole milk and chuck some marshmallows on it for my daughter. Unfortunately she told all her friends so my house has become like Costa and I’m the Barista Grin

Mileymileymoomoo · 05/12/2019 17:32

DH makes it with full fat milk and 2 flakes melted into it. Amazing

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 05/12/2019 18:19

just buy some chocolate you like and melt it into some full fat milk, leave enough room for a generous slug of double cream to give it a nice velvety texture
leave a bit more room if you want to Christmas it up with some booze!

order this chocolate spoon mould and enjoy!

valentinoandme · 06/12/2019 05:58

Regardless of what make it is, NEVER make it with hot water, always hot milk!

RiddleyW · 06/12/2019 06:04

I’m sure it’s completely delicious but that one you posted has sugar as it’s main ingredient along with cornflour to make it thick. I’m not sure it’s fair to call other brands over sweetened in comparison!

I like just chocolate melted into milk with double cream.

Fairylea · 06/12/2019 06:04

Cadbury’s is pretty good but you have to mix a tiny bit with some milk first and then add more milk to it and then heat it up - microwave is fine. That’s our family’s favourite.

Brillopadtongue · 06/12/2019 06:05

A touch of sea salt.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 06/12/2019 06:08

We make up batches of our own mix:

2 cups icing sugar (sieved)
2 cups whole milk powder
1 cup raw cacao powder (sieved) - can use unsweetened cocoa instead
A pinch of salt
You can add a couple of tbsp of cornflour to help thicken it but we don't find you need it, and it makes the texture a bit artificial.

Mix together really well. It keeps in an airtight jar for months and is delicious, we use 4 heaped tsp mix per mug of milk

clearsommespace · 06/12/2019 06:09

Good quality dark cooking choc
Milk
Heat and whisk until uniformly smooth
Pinch of cinammon

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 06/12/2019 06:09

Hotel de chocolat creamy hot chocolate made with warm milk and then mixed in a hot chocolate shaker from the chocolate society! Their chocolate beads are pretty good too.

GinisLife · 06/12/2019 06:13

It may not be as exotic as some of these other suggestions but I find Galaxy or Options perfectly adequate for a chocolate fix.

farnworth · 06/12/2019 06:15

I adore aero hot chocolate - Lovely and frothy - made with hot water, and splash of cold milk at the end. I abandoned all other makes for it! 😁

HeronLanyon · 06/12/2019 06:16

I don’t have a sweet tooth but every now and then have craving for h choc.
Most disappointing was charbonnel and walker (which i thought was going to be fab). There was nothing I could do to make it satisfying - so thin and watery even when made with full fat milk/some cream/ludicrous number of spoonfuls etc.
I’ve liked Cafe Direct Sao Tome. Rich not too sweet deeply chocolatey.

DonPablo · 06/12/2019 06:16

Sounds like you need a Velvetiser. Shame about the price, huh?

lifeisgoodagain · 06/12/2019 06:18

For really good chocolatey flavour, cocoa is your best bet - heat half the milk you need, add cocoa generously, add sugar to taste and cook 1-2 mins (as per packet) remove from heat, stir in rest of milk then return to stove if you require it hotter (I find it is perfect temperature to drink without). Cadbury bournville or green &black cocoa I have

CountFosco · 06/12/2019 06:21

Most brands of hot chocolate are just cocoa and sugar premixed and overpriced. Just add some cocoa and sugar to hot milk. Adding a square of dark chocolate in is nice as well. I don't like the thickened stuff, much of it has cornflour or another thickener added to it.

backouch · 06/12/2019 06:23

I was once bought a gift of chocolate drops for got chocolate, the drips melted in hot milk. Gorgeous, but I haven't seen that style since.

lotusbell · 06/12/2019 06:34

The Twinings one!

Sistercharlie · 06/12/2019 06:35

A quick but very good cheat is this
a sort of chocolate lollipop that you melt in to hot milk from Belgian brand, Leonidas.

SpamChaudFroid · 06/12/2019 06:41

Why have people started adding flour to hot chocolate? Flour has no place in a drink!

Cocoa powder, sugar, milk and a pinch of salt heated together and loads of double cream. I like mine with a glug of frangelico.
