Boring thread - how do you clean a really gunky bathroom?

DH is allergic to everything soap so he washes with Oilatum products. This is fine but I cannot stand the greasy residue they leave in the bath - normal bathroom products just don’t seem to cut through it properly and every bathroom sponge ends up coated in grease after a few passes. I’ve tried Koh which is my wonder product for the rest of the house but even that doesn’t seem up to the job. Have also experimented with kitchen cleaner as that tends to be geared towards greasier stuff, but it’s still a nightmare to clean. Does anyone have any miraculous way to clean a really mucky bathroom other than divorcing DH in favour of a model who isn’t allergic to normal washing stuff??

(Before anyone starts with ‘get him to clean it himself’ - we take it in turns to clean the bathroom but both find it a nightmare)

Wonder if the elbow grease spray would work as it's a degreasing spray

Aquamarine1029 · 04/12/2019 17:24

I have a steamer for cleaning and it's brilliant. I blast everything and then wipe down with microfiber rags.

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 17:25

Or the Pink Stuff cleaning paste?

Washing up liquid and plenty of water.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/12/2019 17:28

I'm not being funny, but withbit being greasy would washing up liquid work? Just to remove the grease then follow with regular cleaning product.

We're a household that uses emollient creams etc and tbh everything stubborn shifts with a rough cotton cloth and Cif or whatever the heck its called now

jillandhersprite · 04/12/2019 17:29

Mine works with cars and is covered with oil/grease. I've gone back to products my mum used - Cif cream cleaner. You have to rinse it really well but it really gets rid of grease...

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/12/2019 17:29

Sorry cross posted with you greenlobster

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 04/12/2019 17:31

You have to rinse it really well

Urgh, the worst feeling ever, sinking into a hot bubble bath only to find a couple of grains of the stuff that makes you feel like you're on the beach - but not in a good way Grin

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 17:39

I use cif too on my shower tray

bestbefore · 04/12/2019 17:44

Wonder what it does to the pipes?! Shock

dementedpixie · 04/12/2019 17:45

They'll get clogged too. Stick some soda crystals down to keep them clear

Keeoe · 04/12/2019 18:03

Lemons and salt and soda crystals and white vinegar for the drains. Both are brilliant.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 04/12/2019 19:12

Thanks everyone. We’re forever having to put drain unblocker down the plug! Will try Cif as I’ve not given that a go yet. Worth a shot on the washing up liquid too.

I try not to go on about it at home as I know he can’t help having to use this stuff but bloody hell it’s a pain!

Have you tried the CIF bathroom moose? It's amazing at getting the bathroom all shiny and clean.

KenzoBaby · 04/12/2019 19:19

I like HG Bath Shine. Leave it on for 10 mins. And use a bath scrubber brush from OXO good grips. Not a cloth.

ThisIsSunrise · 04/12/2019 19:22

Viakal bathroom works on ours, but I only use oilatum a couple of times a week. Follow with an eco cloth.

thenightsky · 04/12/2019 19:25

Stardrops with ammonia or Cilit Bang - the degreaser one.

CatsForLife · 04/12/2019 19:27

Cif cream cleanser. Love it.

snaxinyourslacks · 04/12/2019 20:07

Another vote for Elbow Grease which is a degreaser and very cheap.

ShinyGiratina · 04/12/2019 20:42

Washing up liquid. Been there, done it.

combatbarbie · 04/12/2019 21:01

Washing up liquid should do the trick....I dab it on clothes that have oil based stains and they always come out

theconstantinoplegardener · 04/12/2019 21:25

Baby shampoo? Or maybe a shampoo for greasy hair? And hot water from a shower spray.

headlock · 04/12/2019 21:55

Someone mentioned washing up liquid, I agree, my DS used oilatum and this shifted it.

banivani · 06/12/2019 06:47

Always try washing up liquid first. I hardly clean with anything else, it works for everything.

Sunflower1987 · 06/12/2019 06:55

Washing up liquid is far better for bathroom cleaning than any bathroom spray I have ever used.
