How much do swimming lessons cost?

Blippolbblopp · 03/12/2019 21:59

I want my DD to start swimming lessons in January and ive had a look at our local pool
online and it has really confused me

It states on the websites price list that a junior 30 min lesson was £47 but on the first page advertised £47 per course, 10 weeks

Or is 1 lesson classed as a course? I am going to be shocked if its £47 for 30 minutes Blush

Local leisure centre - £24 a month/30 min lesson a week

Kerning · 03/12/2019 22:01

47 for 10 lessons sounds right, think I paid about that for DD. Unless its a vair posh pool.... Smile

HelloDulling · 03/12/2019 22:02

At a local pool, £4-£5 per 30 mins. I now pay more for classes at a private pool, is £10 per 30 mins, but am seeing better results.

Depends what area. We charge approx £60 a block for 8 weeks which is £7.50 each lesson for 30 minutes

Mileymileymoomoo · 03/12/2019 22:06

DDs lessons at local leisure centre are £50 for 10 half hour lessons.

thismeansnothing · 03/12/2019 22:06

£18 a month DD. 30min lesson a week. 2 week off over xmas. And they get free swimming at any other time too.

Mum and baby ones are £5 a 30 min class

Mileymileymoomoo · 03/12/2019 22:07

She also gets 10 free swims so really it works out £25 for 10 lessons which is good value

Blippolbblopp · 03/12/2019 22:07

Thank you for the replies, So its more likely its £47 for 10 sessions rathar than just 1? Blush

£47 for 10 lessons is brilliant, i could not afford £47 for 30 minutes and was worrying at the thought of it costing that much, thanks everyone

We pay £25.50 per month for weekly 30 minute lessons at the local leisure centre.

evilharpy · 03/12/2019 22:10

We pay about £40 a month for one 30 minute lesson a week with a private swim school which uses local hotel pools. It's totally worth the money, we're seeing great results and my daughter loves it, has progressed a lot, and has gained so much confidence in the water.

She previously went to lessons at a local leisure centre that were about £5 for a half hour lesson and over a year we saw very little progress.

We'll keep going with the private swim school until she's a strong swimmer and confident with all the strokes.

Lulualla · 03/12/2019 22:11

£24.95 a month for a 40 minute lesson each week for a minimum if 46 weeks a year (so if they need to close the pool for more than 6 weeks a year then we get an extra lesson scheduked). Plusfree swimming anytime. Our pool is really set up for kids to do swimming lessons for years and go to the lifeguard level.
You can book blocks of 8 weeks though and they add up to the same cost per lesson.

Cecilia2016 · 03/12/2019 22:13

I think it depends on where you live. We have two leisure centre and the 1st one which is allocated in town is £29.00 every month by direct debits and that includes 3 hours free parking and then the second which is out of town they change £25.00 per month direct debits as well and free parking too. My 13 year old daughter and 5 year old son are currently doing swimming lessons and I pay £25.00 per child every month and that is £50 for two of them and it runs through out of the year and only close for Christmas and New Years holiday and that 2 weeks holiday .

megletthesecond · 03/12/2019 22:13

My DC's had swimming lessons every week. £24 a month each.

Private lessons were £25 for 30 mins IIRC.

Sashkin · 03/12/2019 22:14

Even Waterbabies (which is fun, but definitely intended to part parents from their money) is only £280 for ten weeks.

Our local authority pool is £24 per month, I’m feeling ripped off now I know some people are only paying £25 for ten lessons!

Cecilia2016 · 03/12/2019 22:15

I forgot to say it’s 30minutes lesson and they do 50 weeks in a year

PixieDustt · 03/12/2019 22:16

My DS is 4 months and his first month is £10 then £25 after that. Obviously because he's younger probably why it varies in price.

I know in our local swimming pool kids under 10 I believe swim free.

Lotus90 · 03/12/2019 22:17

£47 for 30 mins? Grin come one OP!

Fuckenstein · 03/12/2019 22:19

We pay £25 a month for 1 30 min lesson a week. The council pool is cheaper at I think £18 a month but the classes were bigger and the teacher didn't get in the pool.

There are only 2 children in DSs class.

LazyDaisey · 03/12/2019 22:22

We have private 1:1 30 min lessons and it averages to about £20 for 30 minutes. Teacher in the pool entire time, hands on instructions. And I know we pay a fortune in comparison to group lessons.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/12/2019 22:26

£7 for 30 mins or £35 per 1:1 half hour.

I'd look into lessons with you local swim club too they are often much cheaper than the local leisure centre. The teaching is often better as they also train the competitive swimmers.

PleasantVille · 03/12/2019 22:26

You didn't really think it was nearly £50 for a swimming lesson did you? No one can that out of touch surely Hmm

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 03/12/2019 22:28

I should have added all children taking lessons at the leisure centre can swim for free at that centre or any of the partner centres too which is hand during school holidays ys

justagrumblebum · 03/12/2019 22:37

Waterbabies is expensive but totally worth it.

Lotus90 · 03/12/2019 22:39

Agree re Waterbabies

TrophyCat · 03/12/2019 22:43

£7 for a group lesson (stages 1-7, then rookie lifeguards is £10 but lasts a whole hour), £21 for a private 1 to 1 lesson.
